You want to know how i can have the graphics on high and not get my system pushed to the limit? Simple the only programs I run in the background besides the standard need to run windows programs is AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Xfire, and Ventrilo, that is it. I dont run a virus scanner, adware, spyware, nothing that isnt needed to run the windows os that and i also run all my games in Windowed Mode which allows me to alt-tab which if done in full screen would eat up more system recources. Dont try to get me to think my systems arent decent, Ive been playing online games alot longer than you and I know how to push a system to breaking points youd never dreamed of trying. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?" |

I tried Ryzom when it was in beta didnt like the way it was so I never kept track after the devs brought it back in to alpha. If it has changed I might go back to it. Im waiting on several games Stargate Worlds, The Agency, DC Universe, Marvel Universe, Jumpgate Evolution, Guild Wars 2, Star Trek Online, and Aion just to name a few. but untill then I dont want to rehash games Ive already played linger than the free 30 day period only to find that I just wasted $15 or more dollars to by the game and then another $15 dollars for another month. Second, "longer then me" you know nothing about my gaming experience and my 13th year in mmos. I started with Meridian 59 in 1996. A year before Ultima Online which many think was first. I been playing them since they began and like you, have pretty much played them all on dozens of different systems. So do not think you have the corner on tweaking systems to their max. You are posting at mmorpg.com most of us are high end gamers and know systems and how they handle games. You are not the only one with extreme experience. I am also a bit of a technophile. My main box is a gaming box and runs so lean that many people say I am a bit anal about how lean I keep my gaming rigs ( I say rigs since I have 4). I have not put you down in anyway. I have only commented on your system spec. I also tried to offer suggestions for games you might try. You are not your system and do not need to take comments on your system as some sort of put down. |

Eccoton, all you've served to accomplish with your posts in this thread is to show us what an idiot you are. Honestly, I thought that the OP saying that he/she had "Lightscribe" was bad enough, but you posting a photo of your computer setup was just atrocious. As you said, acceptable gaming performance is highly subjective, so your opinion is just that -- an opinion. If the OP is happy with the performance he/she is getting from a low-cost video card, then why are you continuing to harass him/her? Does it really offend you that much that someone can experience enjoyment without spending a few hundred dollars? *boggles* To the OP: You sound as if you need to just continue playing the games that you're currently playing until something new comes out. Perhaps you're suffering from, as it's colloquially known, "MMO burnout." I know that I've been doing that myself for the past several months since I decided that I didn't like WotLK, and I've never truly found an MMO that I can appreciate since the CU was released for SWG, although I just decided to get over it and play them anyway. WoW is the only game that I've managed to seriously play, which has been a love-hate relationship over the past four years, although I'm hoping I can find a replacement so I can really stay away from it indefinitely this time. I've wasted far too much money on reactivating my subscriptions in various P2P games (LotRO being the most recent), naively thinking that something in my attitude or the game might have changed, just to instantly rediscover the reasons I didn't like the game to begin with. So, save yourself some money, and just wait for something new. I'm playing F2P games while I wait, just as you are. My favorites, as I've pointed out in other threads, are Mabinogi and Runes of Magic. Atlantica Online is fun in its own right as well. |
|
Hi. I know what 2d and 3d are. What I was getting at with my sarcastic statement was that mabinogi and runes of magic aren't pushing your graphics card much for a 3d game. You seem to be so much about playing high end games with your "top of the line" graphics card that I thought it was funny that you listed those as "currently playing." Performance is much different on paper than it is in practice. Your computer might meet or beat the recommended specs for a game, but recommended is hardly ever on par with the highest settings. Recommended just means "run the game well" - not "run the game maxed with good fps." Also, I think the recommended 7900GTX might actually be better than your 8600. The 7900GTX is a high end (at the time) gaming card and the 8600 has always been a lightweight affordable card. The 8800 is the beast of the 8000 series but the 8600 is what you would put in an affordable home PC that wants dx10. I recommend you shell out $100 for an 8800 if you want to consider your computer a gaming rig. I'm playing Vanguard right now on "high" settings. This doesn't actually set everything to highest though. When I push draw distance above 2500 meters, it actually starts bogging my system down. It's playable but not enjoyable (very low FPS) at everything maxed. I imagine the high end 295s with an i7 could rock out vanguard fully maxed. I haven't played AoC since I've upgraded my comp so I'm not sure how it would run. Like I said though, performance is much different in practice than theory-crafting on the recommended settings.
Most of the time when I post as drunk as I was last night, I end up regretting it the next day. I'm sober now and well, I agree with everything I wrote last night and the attitude that came across. This guy's either a troll or someone with the type of personality I highly dislike. He says stuff like "Its a waist of system resources and beneath me to even think about playing" and that just gets under my skin. So either he's a good troll (thumbs up if you are, you got me :D ) or he truly believes 2d games are beneath him. That kind of thing really gets to me. I don't think my post reflected any sort of drunken ego, honestly... I admit I was a bit sarcastic in my response but that was intended. If I felt the OP was more genuine and had a real question I'd go out of my way to answer it as I've done often in the past. I still don't think this guy's computers can handle WoW at fully maxed settings after the graphics upgrade that came with WotLK. The only reason I even make that kind of statement is because the "better than you" attitude he gave in the OP. |

Originally posted by Cypt1 Crypt1, you might be mistaking my posts with URNotMega. I was not continuing to harrass him since I never harrassed him at all. All I said in regards to the OP and his system was his cards were not top of the line cards which were his own words. He seems offended about that comment so, I said I was commenting about his video cards not him. I did this because I was not trying to offend him in any way. I think it is great he is happy with performance. I would not be, so what? I am not offended in the slightest at anything anyone has posted here as you suggest I am. Yes, everything I post here could ultimately be called opinion. How does that make me an "idiot"? The photo of my gaming area was not posted to prove anything. Why, I was not trying to prove anything was I never even shown my box or it's specs. It was not a shot to some how show what a great box I have. If you read all the post I said I do not have a top of the line system but I have certain rez requirements to play a game. The OP listed a lot of his requirements and things he would not accept. I was doing the same with my rez comment. I showed the area I game in for no other purpose then to show I love gaming and like to be immersed. I over kill a bit with big monitors, 4 systems, and surround sound. Yes I am the types who will spend more money then needed to improve the immersion. I was not putting anyone down who does not do this. I was hoping others might enjoy seeing my play area and post the areas they game in. That picture was as much about the beatles action figures and posters as my monitor. It was actually intended to be a bit self-depricating. I admit to being a bit of a gaming geek. How is that atrocous? I have actually been trying to talk about game choices and tried to recommend a few games all of which the OP has played. In fact pretty much all suggested games the OP has played. I only questioned why the thread because he seems to have played every mmo, so I was wondering what he was hoping to find. He seems as knowledgeable as anyone here about available mmos. However, what would I know I am just an "idiot". |

Ill say it 1 more time maybe this time it will get through that thick skull of yours before you go spouting off that everyone should drop $220 or more to get a graphics card that isnt eve required to run even the best MMO's do some actual research about the cards people are talking about. I highly doubt you even know what the 7900GTX can do let alone what it takes to run it. Alot of us arent making the 6 figure a year check that you are and dont see the need to get the $500 CPU the $700 motherboard or the $600 graphics card, we are more than happy with getting the $70 graphics card that can do the same things that your $600 graphics card can do.I might be able to run COD5 or even Tom Clancy's HAWX on full graphics but hell I dont play those games to me they are a waist of time and money. Id rather put money down on games like Mass Effect, and Fallout 3 for Offline games and Everquest 2, and .Warhammer. Oh and about you doubting my ability to play WoW on max graphics? how about I show you what my system can do with EQ2 which has better graphics than WoW(i know it would be better with fraps but I cant afford fraps)? You asked what game you might want to try. Well you might try city of heroes/villains.
At least you wont be grinding...and you wont be locked out of alot of stuff becasue you are not hgih enough level or too high a level. And tentative date of April 8th, you will be able to make your own content for others to play.
I say tentative becasue the system is in beta test right now.
Of cousre this game gives open testing for everyone not like some other games.....
I just mention this game....becasue i came from playing many games...starwars galaxies, final fantasy xi even some beta of wow.....and the one thing these all had in common was that they board the life out of me...and didnt offer much freedom. Freedom as in being able to go at super speed for as long as i want...or be able to fly to someplace...just because i want to....and also becasue fireball in COH hits multiple things and actualy kills things....A Tank in city of heros isnt some pathetic knight or warrior who has to have a healer...they really are like Tanks....and when you use a hold power on something they realy do become helpless.... Also the customer service is far superior to any other game i have seen so far......
And they must be doing it right becasue everyone else seams to be stealing their ideas....
ah well....from your post you just seamed like someone who has come from the experience of playing alot of games where the object is to kill wolves all day to maybe get 20 of something like a collar and every quest inthe game is about the same way. So thats why i suggest the city of heroes/villains games.... If thats not you cup of tea.....then go figure.... |

have you tried Tcos that game is a blast still technically in open beta in the u.s though it has already launched in E.U so the open beta is really just a stress test for the NA servers. |

Most with a bit of an insulting tone "city of warhouses" . The person who suggested CoH/CoV may love the game but it is "City of Warehouses" to the OP. Knowing this person went to the trouble to write a detailed honest repsonse to you about a game he likes, you might have simply said "it was not for me". I responded with a few idea but because I question the notion that his cards are not top of the line as claimed there was insulting tones to me as well. We have just been trying to offer ideas about the games we love and recommend. He even claim that he has been in mmos longer then me and knows more when I was just trying to help. This may be true but did you really need to post it, to prove what? We were just trying to help. With the OPs vast experience in mmos I again question what was he trying to find here since he has played all of them? URNotMega in his sarcastic drunken post is looking more and more correct. We have tried to help but there is obviously no mmos out there for akiira69. When you find one post what it is I am curious to learn what you think is a good mmo. You might simply stop playing mmos for now and hope for some mmo in the future that you will like. The mmo world is better and with more choices then ever. There are many game jumpers who never seem to be happy. I recommend staying with one and only one. Try to explore it fully and not divide your time between 4 or 5 at a time. Maybe mmos are simply not for the OP. You might try something like Fable, Oblivion, the Rise of the Argonauts, Fallout3, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, Overlord, Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider or even Spore. I do have one last suggestion Entropia Universe. |

Most of the problems that happen in this thread is my fault(you notice i say it is my fault not likely, or probably but is my fault) because I never gave the guidlines to what type of MMO I like I have posted it in other threads like this but now I recognize that I failed to do so in this thread. To those that tried to help and I snapped at I am sorry. I am not sorry to URNotMega, instead of being helpful all he does is try to a) increase his post count and b) try to make it so I say something stupid and cause me to get kicked off these forums. Well URNotMega it didnt work I appluad you for trying but all in all you failed. "Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? I for one appreciate this response. My last suggestion was Entropia Universe. Have you ever tried it. It is an mmo with very mixed feelings around it. I played for about a year and basically broke even. It is unique and a challenge and not for everyone. I mention Ryzom and you said you tried it for a bit. You might try giving it another go since you can try it for free. For someone with your experience it will be hard to find a game. So I would suggest Ryzom or Entopia Universe. Something that may challenge your skill and notion of what an mmo can be. It does not have a huge population but D&D Online is a pretty well made game and deserves more credit then it gets. We are facing a few months of not much coming out but late this year and next year we should have a few more choices. Good luck and if you find an obscure mmo let us know. |

Sorry for straying off topic, but aren't the 200 series for fucking graphics professionals and/or medical equipment?
My 4850x2's can run absolutely anything maxed out at 60+ FPS. I don't see why you would want to go any higher unless it's for your job. |

"Its a waist of system resources and beneath me to even think about playing."
Well, that person doesn't deserve a decent response. If I could go back, I'd take out the little piece of sincere advice I gave you in my first post.
*edit* Speaking of looking at post history... I just took a glance at yours. You seem to be pretty confrontational and your arrogance carries on beyond this topic. I feel much better about calling you out in my first post now, thanks :) |

actually I use 1440x900(17" Widscreen on the Intel System 19" Widescreen on the AMD System) on both my computers nd I never said that my cards were the best, all I said was why should I spend $220 on a card I can get the same performance out of one that considerbly cheaper. I also never said the RA like to know where you are getting this tM on a vid card makes a vid card uber. I really would like to know where you are getting all of this info. And as for games like World at War and crysis I dont bother playing those types of games FPS Offline(notice I say offline not online) pose no challenge for me because they are easy to defeat with cheats, that is why I play online games because it is impossible to cheat and not get caught even with PunkBuster on a FPS server its still easy to cheat and not get caught but to cheat and not get caught in a MMORPG is a real feat. the only games I play offline are CRPG's which also require heavy graphics cards. That is my opinion on those types of games, we have state of the art game developing software(eg Maya 3D World Creator) and they make games using the Diablo 1 engine. to me its saying i dont care about the graphics part of the game. In my opinion a great game needs more than just a great storyline. but at the same time it also needs more than a great graphics engine. a great game has both killer graphics and a killer storyline to follow, to have 1 but not the other tells me that the game developer either doesnt care about the potential players they could attract ot doesnt care about the game it self. I will not waste time on a game that in my opinion the devs just slapped to gether using an out dated graphics engine. About my attitude in game forums, I have been playing online games sence about 1991(way before MMORPG's were ever thought of) with MUDs(Multi-User DomainsDungeons basically think of them as the grandfather of MMORPG's) I have seen games come and go, and yes Ive become somewhat of a grouch but its well founded and well placed. If you were to look through my eyes at the online game progression from BBS Boards to MUDs to MMORPG's youd be a little cynnical about things to. Especially towards people who think can tell a MMO Development team what they can and cannot do to their game. I have played more online games than I care to count Ive seen the best of online games and I have seen the worst of online games. Hell I even helped code a few MUDs myself, so excuse me for seeing how you respond to my thread for what it really is. And to me your posts are nothing but "Oh look he doesnt use the same vid card that I do so lets berate him over that choice". You didnt even bother to ask why I hated MMO's with 2D and 2.5D graphics you just took it that Im a snob(im not its just that when im paying for either extra goodies for a MMO or paying a monthly fee for a MMO i would want them to at least have decent graphics, and yes i do buy stuff from the stores for Free to Play MMO's and yes I do pay to play those that require a monthly subscription). And yes i notice the difference between the posts you make towards others and the posts you make towards me, and I am suprised by the difference between them, you are calm and civil towards them but the very first thing you say towards me is my choice in vid cards is a joke. Not all of us who play online and offline games have an unlimited budget to upgrade the systems, some of actually have things that are more important than a brand new spiffy vid card. I have rent I need to pay, utility bills I need to pay, phone bill, cable internet bill, cell phone bill, and groceries. No i didnt go through that sentence to make up a sob story on the first of every month i go thru all my bills pay them go out and by a months worth of groceries, after all that I have about $50-$70 USD and depending on the month I might have 2 pay to play MMO's active so that is another $30 out of my check which limits me to $20-$40 a month to play with. After all of that I have very little left for fun, so excuse me if I dont go out and drop $200-$500 USD on a vid card that does a little more than one i pay $50 for. The only reason I mentioned the Vid Card size is every time I ask for help in getting a new game to play(whether it be offline or online) i always get asked what vid card im using and what size memory does it have. "Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future?
