Immersion is subjective so we can't tell you.

AoC isn't immersive. It is instanced up the hootza.

LotRO and Vanguard's character models all look like they have a stick where it shouldn't be.

If you want a truely immersive game, play Fallout 3, otherwise, I think the most immersive in the MMO genre is WoW.

I gotta say WoW.  Part of me wants to say Vanguard but there's always something buggy/glitchy that snaps me out of the immersion.  WoW's level of polish really helps keep me immersed.  WoW's community is really the only thing that snaps me out.

wow is nothing but instanced, I'd say AoC too. DDO and Lotro in some points too. I dont say EQ2 even if I play it *gg*

cuz eq2 didnt had those instances...wow does.. rly , anything else you would like to complain

even most hc rper.. will find "i will open those keep doors, and enter dungeon "good enough..

ddo and lotro is 20 times more instanced compared to wow.. noone asked your opinion how much you hate wow tbh..

O i dont hate wow, but a game with paladins on motor cycles just isnt immersive for me. I just bring the instance point (100% of wow's dungeons are instanced) because somebody else above used it to make another game bad )

qft. out of all the mmo's ive played, ffxi was by far one of the most immersive. the game made you feel really important as a character. had one of the best communities. the downside was that it was very tedious back in the day. waiting for groups and things of that nature. thats been fixed, although square should have implemented the lvl fix a long long time ago, maybe 4 years. its still a great game though.

For me it is FFXI as well. The game fills 'solid'. The combat animations are really unique. FFXI was also the only MMO where I wanted to listen to the music.

i ve tried most commercial fantasy mmos as well as few sci fi mmos . warcraft is definatly the most immersive fantasy mmo i ve played because it had a very strong community . unfortunatly thats starting to fall apart and its the poorer for it . eve is very strong as well . i m currently playing conan , its a nice looking game and fun to play at the early levels but i do realise the endgame is nt so hot .

aoc atleast deserve to be called instanced, thats how game is.. that doesnt make game bad

wow isnt instance, yes dungeons are.. ( not all of them, there used to be plenty of elite zones back in the days, you know why instanced is better.. you cant create boss for xx , and then have it done by 2xx, im sure you had yours 160 ppl moments, while fighting those 80 man bosses in eq.. now for how long did you found that fun ..)

those small things like motorcycles and other small jumbo, makes wow where it is

if you ask me.. new dungeon  ( in any game )  or random small thing.. ill go dungeon any time.. i love pve

but you gona end up like aoc.. ( atleast how it was on start  ) it had pvp, it had crafting, it had sieges.. it had instances, it had raids, its never enough.. there wont be game that have enough of xx.. it was broken.. but it was playable.. but you know.. at the end of the day.. you maxed crafting.. you maxed keep.. you did few sieges.. you raided all you got, and there was nothing else to log for..

you know 2 months after release i was trying hard.. to log to aoc.. and do anything

but i couldnt log to aoc.. like in wow.. and go explore some old zone.. maybe try to solo old raid boss..

do random achievement , get new pet,, a new mount , new cloths , any random thing..

shit jump on orgri bank.. none of those things were in aoc ( maybe some are now.. )

so never go bashing those small things.. even if they are out of phase.. ( tho they are not.. flying machines were in wc wc 2 wc3, and i never remmber anyone complaining. .so whats different.. from gnomish chopper.. to gnomish bike . nothing )

FFXI all the way as well!  You really feel important and are a huge part of the storyline as it plays out and best of all when you earn or find that next piece of gear it just feels so good!

oh and another of my favorite parts and one of the only remaining MMOs that has a death penalty...you learn from your mistakes very quickly, and generally you don't go rushing back to try again immediately  {that fluffy rarab outside of Windurst may be friendly, but the ones in Cape Teriggan will slice n' dice ya too ribbons}

...Personally, I don't see how instancing ruins immersion for so many people. Actually I think in a lot of cases, instanced questing helps.

Imagine going on an epic quest to kill the dragon...you get there only to see another group kill it first, and you have to wait 20 minutes for it to respawn. Where is the immersion in that? For me, when I enter a dungeon on a mission, its about me and my team, anyway. Who cares what the rest of the world is doing.

I agree. The most immersive MMOG I have played is also the most instanced. D&D Online has the best environments and atmosphere of any MMOG I have played. All the DM dialog really adds to the immersion.

Having a bunch of people spamming zone chat bunny hopping or generally crowding up your adventure kill immersion for me.

Next to DDO, The Chronicles of Spellborn really makes me feel like I am there in a real world living out my character's life.

Also agreeing with the DDO call. However, it really depends on the company. If I'm with a group of role-players (which for me, is an important part of the immersion factor), taking it slow, and hitting all the stops, then yes. But if I'm in a PUG zergfest, it's no more better than any other game.

Along those same lines, LotRO has very awesome environments, atmosphere, and story-lines. Especially the epic content. If the dungeons were as interactive as DDOs, and they story unfolded in a similar fashion (DM text/speech), I think that would be my top-dog.

Previous posters are quite right, though - what attributes to immersion is different for everyone.

The Dauntless Reverie - a multi-game, heavy-RP community. CoH/V, LotRO, and coming soon to SW:TOR!

I completely disagree that graphics causes immersion. It's how the world and people interact that maintains the illusion.

Edit: Age of Conan, based on your statement, would be the best MMO, and I fundamentally disagree.

I agree. None of these games can top the immersion of a pen and paper games where everyone imagines the world around them.

But on the same note...persistance.

If you kill the dragon, why isn't he dead. Why can you keep coming back and kill him over and over again.

You are right on the mark. The Pen and Paper will always be the most dynamic, fluid and interactive.

without instances, the dragon does keep coming back...and will come back and kill you if you don't get away fast enough. In an instanced quest, I kill the dragon, and I never see him again (as long as i don't repeat the quest)

Wow is more than 5 years old and have loads of content so the comparision is not really fair.

Still, AoC need a lot more content.

Palladins on motorcycles are not a small thing.

I'd say DDO, don't play it but they got the D&D game very good.
