If I or lets sya you was to play one, Which one should I or you go for?

Thanks

IM afraid the answer is an individual one. I, myself, would go with LOTRO, because its world is a lot more immersive. However, there are some mechanics where EQ2 excels (customization,. crafting).

LOTRO. Give Soe enough time they will Piss you off. Think its Smeedles Goal in life to Do harm even if its a little to each person paying him to play the games.

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

Go LOTRO.

If you go EQ2, you'll always have to wonder if SOE will change the game entirely and leave you with a worthless character after you've put years of effort into it - don't make the mistake of trusting SOE, as so many SWG players did, to their loss.

wrong.....

You are butthurt by what SOE did....get over it.....

LoTRO is much better for obvious reasons.....graphics.....game play.....story.....

EQ2 had good stuff for it's time though....but gets old faster than LotRO....and these days...getting old happens faster and faster.....

Oh, I'm over it. Thanks for your concern though.

But that doesn't mean that I won't always remind potential players about SOE's total lack of ethics. If I manage to educate one potential player about SOE, it just brightens my day.

MMO sandbox games are as exciting as watching paint dry.

Suuuuuuure you're over it. We believe ya.

Wonder how many alt accounts this one has? That recent registration, to spread the hate between accounts, is kicking.

Gotta go with Gest on this...get over it. Either that, or get some anal cream if you are still so raw.

As for the OP....

My wife is hooked hard on EQ2. She does mini raids(compared to EQ) with her guild all the time. I play it once in a while, although I just havent ever really gotten the "bug" for this game.

Same goes for LoTRO...had an account the first yr I only made level 5 on. That isnt due to game, but rather my healthas I am on disability.

I dont know your interests, so will make a couple of points....

Both games seem decent to me(I cant get over EQ...still think it rules :P )

They both seem to have older communities, solo game capability, and dont appeae to either be closed any time soon(which is saying something these days).

SO you have to say to yourself..."Self....Am I feeling lucky today"....err scratch that.

What ya wanna know is are you taken with Tolkein's masterpiece, or would another fantasy setting due you?

Because other than that there isnt really lots of negative to point out about games from my standpoint...although admitted the only exp I have with LoTRO is minor(besides a RL friend that raves about it). SO to me the score is 1 to 1 in RL....I know one person hooked on each game.

If you havent tried a trial of each yet, I may suggest that....although a trial doesnt always capture the true essence of things such as community.

Whichever way you go though, I dont think you will be making a bad choice.

Good Luck to ya :)

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

If you got the graphics power, go LOTRO.

Never try to teach a pig to sing,it wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Well, I played EQ2 for about a year and half before leaving it.  I'm currently a year into LOTRO and am enjoying it more than I did EQ2.  I really don't think it was the fault of EQ2, it is a good game but I had come from EQ and even though it shares some names with EQ, it's not really EQ so it never really captured my interest.  LOTRO on the other hand did capture me.  I like the epic storyline and even enjoy the more run of the mill quests.

LOTRO is a far superior game with a bright future.    Another benefit you can get a lifetime for $199 or a 9.99 monthly special if you get a founder to refer you or wait for a special around the holidays.

Also add, SOE is all that is wrong with the MMO industry.   Every game SOE has released they ruin at some stage.   Strange how some still continue to send them money.

I still sub to both because each one entertains me differently.  I think overall I enjoy EQ2 because of its high-fantasy feel and its huge content.  LoTRO is good for a casual evening of PvE, but one thing that lacks from LoTRO for me is the lack of races and classes.  Human, dwarf, elf or hobbit.  Pretty vanilla.  I also dont like the confined feeling of the Tolkien world knowing that it will never evolve or deviate from that lore.  With EQ2, you have such an abundancy of lore and it always evolves and changes.  Exploring is much more interesting this way because, unless youve had it spoiled new areas are new areas.  You dont know what to expect.  With LoTRO you always know what to expect, you just dont know how the creators of the game interpreted it into the game.

all in all you cant go wrong with either of them, but again its all on personal taste.  Something you'll have to experience yourself.

Lotro without a question.  You will get superior storylines and quests.  A far far far more balanced pvp system.  You will get a steady amount of free content.  Far superior look and feel to the world.  Almost everything is better about lotro with only a few exception.  Turbine seems to be following the design philosophy that giving players a good game and free content will make loyal customers.

EQ2 just does not have a consistant and dependable future.  People are right when they talk about the misadventures of what soe does.  Anywhere from soe thrusting virtual items sales in several different formats on the playerbase to an inconsistant direction with each expansion there is a very high likelyhood of the game drastically changing your experience from one day to the next.  Not everyday, but it really only takes one time.  Soe seems to be following the philosophy that their current games are nothing more than test areas for how to run their future mmos.

I played EQ2 for about 5-6 months and LoTRO for about 5-6 weeks.....To me EQ2 is alot more challenging and certainly is light years ahead in end game, if that is important to you.......Both games are a little too easy (ie soloable all the way to max level).......It seems like players eitehr love or hate LoTRO......To me the game got boring very quick.......IF I had to make a choice between the 2 I would go with EQ2 easily.

LoTRo.

It's much newer, it's got alot more people, and it's highly polished in comparison. I played EQ2 for 2 years, good game but far too many expansions and really becoming dated. Also steadily declining in subscribers.

Playing: Star Wars: The Old Republic

Waiting For: Absolutely Nothing.
