Uhmmm so? By your definition every game that wants you to update your DirectX is a fail and everytime something suggests you update to make your computing experience safer or better is a fail. I don't understand your logic and please don't misunderstand me because I dont' mean to flame but that's what you make it sound like...

if you didn't notice im in vista..and dx is FULLY updated....yet it's still telling me to update

Either way many games do this after an install. It;s not uncommon and I wouldn't call the entire game a fail because its trying to make sure you have the latest directx version even if it didn't correctly recognize that you already have it. Same goes with this post. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I think that you as a human being are a complete failure, that would just be stupid as there could be many other things you do well right?

8 or 9 days ago there was a n update to DX for xp so maby vista got one too and you missed it

it's not fail it's a good game I used to play it I just want to muck around with dx10...and because it won't let me...it's epic fail

and the patcher links me to this site...www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/resultsForCategory.aspx it lists every direct x release/update known to man...and the latest one is for dx9

Where is your DXDiag to back up your claim that your DX is up to date? Post the results to back up your claim, until then rant is no more then just someone whining.

it says direct x 10 in dxdiag what do you want me to post the whole log?

what would I need the latest version of dx9 for if I got dx10 :/

the direct x update pack contains dx9 and 10 files thats why

However... the update that AoC requires is NOT a critical/mandatory MS update... MS did make a redistributable package and it does seem a bit strange that FC does not include this in their fresh trial install.

Including a ~100Mb redist package in a 10+Gb installation is not exactly extreme overhead - And most welltrained monkeys should be able to operate Wise Package Studio...

I dunno because I don't have dx10 but perhaps it needs to launch in dx9 first? All I can say is that the error msg in your post should be solved by getting the latest dx9 :)

So a game told you to update your DX file and you come on a forum to whine about it?

It is more than clear your DX is not upto date and you could have simply updated it and went about your usual life,I dont see where this whine is comming from or going...."damn this game for helping me to update my files"...is this it?

Do yourself a favour and update when a game or any safe program tells you and save your whine's for something else.

 opps just seen you said you have DX10....so you think DX9 died the day DX10 was born,sorry mate but you really have a bit to learn,as with graphic card drivers for old video cards they are always being improved...as is DX9,like I said D/L the latest version of DX9 from games and safe program's as DX10 has nothing to do with your DX9.

I use vista too, and I too had to download the latest dx version. It can be a issue with your current installation that makes AoC not seeing it as properly installed. Instead of blaming the game, you should maybe try to do what the error code says. ;)

Ok, let me clear some things up. Yes, you have DX10, however, DX doesn't just go DX 8, DX 9, DX 10, there are updates in between. To run AoC you need the latest of each. If you go to the site it gave you www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/resultsForCategory.aspx and click the Direct X March 2009 update you will get the file you need.

I had this message too cuz I got dx10, I just did what it told me and started playing the game.  This was not worth making a  thread for.

What's lamesauce about the game telling you that you don't have up to date files to run the game?

it's lamesauce cause I spent all that time downloading it...was just excited to play and by the time it was finished I was very limited on time and had to leave..but now im almost done patching so it's okay
