Honestly though, I don't get this at all.  They are not allowing vets to return.  The biggest problem the game had at launch was the huge dropoff in quality after tortage.  If vet players come back on a free account, all they are going to see is tortage again and they won't believe anything has changed past lvl 20. 

Not that this is a perfect solution but most people have more then one email address.

Some more info from Tarib taken from the official forums concerning trial accounts subject:

Trial players can choose to download the full client right from the start too if they wish to do that. So yes, if a full client is available (by getting it from another player for example), they will have access to the content.

The possibility to have a reduced client which contains Tortage was offered to be able to have a smaller download size of the trial client to start with.

About the topic of items mentioned above: those are given to trial players by chosen partners who help spread the news about the availability of the free trials. It is a common way to let more people know and raise interest in the game.

But I can understand the point that some players voice that they were not given the chance to attain the same items when they joined the game. Like the Snow Mammoth being offered to new registrations a while ago or the items now being given to trial players coming in from various partner websites. It is a little bit like when games bring out new expansions that let newcomers to the game level much faster and gain access to higher level gear that was ever available at the time when the game released or one or two expansions back. We are aware that veteran players should be rewarded in one way or another too. It is a topic that we will look into and hopefully will be able to inform you about soon.

On another (or somewhat similar?) topic I have been asked about ... Trial accounts also do have some restrictions to them, the most noticeable are inability to trade with others, restrictions to use public channels and inability to send in-game mail. These are there to prevent some other 'habits' that showed up in the past few years.

Second thing to remember is that the trial is limited just like in other game free trials.

Upon entering your key on your account page this is what it says:

"Welcome to the free 7 day trial of Age of Conan. Get ready for the most savage, sexy and brutal MMO ever created! The 7 days of free playtime will start from the first time you log into the game. Please note that trial accounts have some restrictions to them, the most noticeable are inability to trade with others, restrictions to use public channels, inability to post on forums and inability to send in-game mail. All these restrictions are lifted once you upgrade your account to the full version of the game.

The client you are about to download contains everything you require to start playing the game. Through the patcher you may elect to download the rest of the game at your own convenience. This is not needed before you reach level 20.

No, the trial is not limited to Tortage. The trial is limited to 7 or 14 days depending on where you obtain your trial key.

What they are saying is that the trial patcher gives you two options, either download initially just the tortage part and when you finish tortage, download the rest of the client or on the other hand, you can choose to download the full client right from the start so you don't have to do it afterwards.

Players have a choice to DL the Trial (Tortage only) or the Full client DL.

Nowhere did I read the "Trial" is limited to Tortage unless that's how you DL it.

i got this game at release and quit becuase of bugs etc, is it possible to install and patch from the discs for the trial? any info will be great. maybe someone who plays the game and tried the trial account maybe to confirm this before i send the night patching for nothing. Cheers

Anybody have an idea on how I can rectify this? I have 2 trial accounts showing as Open and Playable. They are both US accounts and the trial client is US. I have verified forum name, e-mail, and everything I can see that it allows me to verify and filled in all information except that which is exclusive to billing. Would appreciate any help possible with this issue.

Did they email you to verify your email address? Check your spam folder.

Yes, you can use the original discs to install the game, then let the patcher patch the game to the latest version 1.4.6

Then you can use your trial credentials to login into the game.

Don't throw in the towel just yet. I remember that when I came back to the game and activated my old account using a credit card that it took around 30m for the system to process all data. I would suggest waiting at least that long and if the problem is still occurring, then I suggest posting your issue at:

So you can download either the full client or the small Tortage client to access the trial. That still leaves open what the trial content consist of.

Now if you can show a quote saying "you have access to the full game during the trial" that I may have missed somewhere, i'd love to see it since that would make the trial actually worth trying out.

The big client is there to make it easy to subscribe after the trial.

They do the same with Anarchy Online. A free account can download and use the full client which has all content, but you are still denied acces to anything more than what the free game entails. It is to make it easy for you to subscribe without having to download more.

People have the option of just Downloading the Tortage part instead of all 14GB to check the game out, if they want to progress the game will update via the patcher at level 20.

As i'm typing this, i'm also installing the game to check out the trial and to see the changes made to the game. I left the beta in anger (sold my beta-acc on ebay to a poor fool), still gave the "final" game a try and left it cussing and swearing as well.

I really would like to play the trial with my former characters (assuming they still exist somewhere), 7 days free for vets would be the better thing for me.

However, the plan for tonight is to lead at last one char to Toratage before going to bed. Cheers everyone!
