The moment it ceases to be favorable, they do a 180 and completely change their opinion. You pointed out a few yourself. When they're called out on the flip-flopping they'll either stop posting in that thread, or topic-hop on to some completely irrelevant point.

lies, well actually, kindof. Featurwise, there are a sh!tload of features here for a just released game, however, DF has problems no other mmo would EVER have (thanks to the lack of common sense in Greece), one of the major ones being balance or the COMPLETE LACK OF IT.
I mean NO mmo has NO balance, I mean there could be some glaring imbalances like in AoC's start, but that's NOTHING compared to DF. There is NO reason not to follow the popular template, some cities are made HORRIBLY compared to others, and how hp, stamina, damage, and mana is balanced is completely retarded, making combat kindof stupid. This game is imbalanced in every sense. Think of any feature in Darkfall. Did you think of it? Well that feature is HORRIBLY balanced and implimented. When I'm energetic I'm: When I'm at default I'm:

OP didn't like the game. Many people obviously do. Most people have never gotten a chance to play. The verdict is still out on Darkfall. Actually, by the sounds of it, the verdict is definitely out on DF and the verdict doesn't sound good. And, if there was any truth to what I posted it was most definitely "If anyone wants to dispute this [my original statements] go ahead but I guarantee you I will have more people on my side than you and rightly so." Looks like my OP wasn't totally 100% wrong. Sometimes my opinion is correct I guess? Anyhow, all that aside, the real problem here is the trend with game companies, namely MMO developers that feel like they can release a not only unfinished product but one that ceases to function as intended or promised. Yeah I know, what a surprise, people in charge of businesses lying to their consumers...But seriously, the MMO companies producing these horrible games need to be called out on their shenanigans (aka blatant lying to their consumer base). Until these changes are made we will see a steady flow of highly anticipated games that disappoint (to put it mildly). |

Also, this may be the case for a lot of MMOs, maybe all of them, but not to the degree of Darkfall, or Dark and Light, or to a lesser degree AoC (specifically it's launch). Listen, the point im trying to make is that in the MMO market specifically you have this trend of sub-par games coming out that were supposed to be not only good but the next best thing...So, the real question is how does a trend like this get reversed? I'm not sure, but I suppose it would have to start with the consumers. Apparently you missed the part where I said I played the game. And to resond to your other statement, see above paragraph. |

actually... no, that's not the case with EVERY mmo, and THAT is where the problem lies... all these players blindly throwing their money away at any and every new game that gets put out... what games get put out this shittily for a console game? and if one did... would anyone buy another game from that company?
oh, but but but but mmos are never finished, they're always evolving... right, they're always being improved upon, always evolving -- where in that thought do words like "incomplete" "dishonest" "craptastic" come into play?
the website still lists a couple of dozen FEATURES for the game. don't forget, the super AI also helped beta test for a good portion of the testing. but but but, the pve - where is the super AI that can beta test as well as (or better than) actual players???
puh-lease.

My point exactly. The gap between console games, single player pc games (as in, not MMOs), and MMOs is so huge in the quality department that it's ridiculous. Now I know that with an MMO you have other things to consider like creating a stable server, account/billing issues, constant patching, but isn't that what we pay them a monthly fee for? Why should the initial $50 even be paid for an MMO if it's a given that the game will be incomplete at launch. You might as well only have to pay a sub fee. C'mon people, let's wake up. |

But if alot is fix and implemented Darkfall can take crown from AC1 world already looks beautifull now they need fix things and chance some machanics plus implement things that where rpomise and missing Darkfall will be awesome. PvP is already great in small groups siege still to laggy crashes and to many siege machanics dont work as should be, plus no gate doors. It will always be a nich game so most dont like it and hate it, its for hardcore only, it will be a good game but it realy need alot work. Cya ingame have fun:) |

uhm compare mmo's to other mmo's, not mmo's to console games, obviously console games are more finished than mmo's at launch... Though yeah this game would have been really stable if it actually had an open beta, they went from closed beta to payed stress test beta. I guess next is payed open beta, I hope the game releases soon though... and @whatamidoing, yep you're right, mmo's as a whole are horrendously over priced When I'm energetic I'm: When I'm at default I'm:

Originally posted by Evasia none of this "hardcore only" copout excuse, from fanbois and the devs, people aren't complaining that the game's ideals are too "hardcore" and that they hate full loot pvp, real time combat, etc. Nearly 99% of all forumfall and 70%+ of these forums (yes pulled that out of my @ss, basically a "large majority") would LOVE the game that's promised in the feature list. What people are complaining about are complaining about is the HORRIBLE implimentation of those promises. People are also complaining about features being cut. In fact, nearly all the complaints are well founded, for example, the people that are complaining about the grindtastic tiered skill progression are complaining because "skill progression will feel like an immense grind" was NOT what the feature list would intend you to believe (though I actually think that this is a null complaint, because you could just macro if you can't handle the grind) When I'm energetic I'm: When I'm at default I'm:

Originally posted by Evasia AC1 has never been full loot, and you could easily cover all your valuables with "death items" so that you never lose any piece of armor or weapon. AC1 was at best "carebear loot", certainly not full loot. Still waiting for the real UO successor... |

Not sure if that company is still around, but I had to do multiplayer testing on this game at Sony and oh god it was horrid. the graphics were about the same as a Dreamcast with gameplay equal to a PS1. Oh and of course it was a FPs game dealing with WW2, but with an alternate outcome. |

So you never question whether or not the game could be improved or that it should have been a lot better? Even if you are that easy to please, perhaps a little thought into some flaws that could be improved wouldn't hurt? It's this pathetic mentality to just settle and not even think about what you're doing or the world around you that gets to me. It's what makes game developers lazy (and for a good reason since they still continue to profit) and it just snowballs from there. No progress is made. But hey man, just have some fun!! That's what it's all about!! The game's perfect I'm sure though anyways so maybe you don't need to voice any opinion about the game you're paying $15 a month for. Thank god you found the promise land and for such a low monthly rate? Can't beat that... |

It really borders on abject stupidity. No game genre is as unforgiving on the dev team as the MMO. It is just an incredibly hard thing end to end. Can an indy director make a great movie? Yes. But can they make The Watchmen? No. Same concept. A lone schmuck with a dream isnt going to give you your Startrek Holodeck (that so many seem to desperately want). The reason Dark and Light, Horizons, Vanguard, Shadowbane and on and on and on and on all have the EXACT same story as Darkfall is because there are people who DESPERATELY are seeking some kind of alternate existance in a game and are drawn LIKE FLIES to the MMO genre (obviously) They just cant accept that the technology isnt there and that even if it were, the economics arent there because MOST PEOPLE are just not that hung up on so badly NEEDING that level of escapism. But what IS out there are enterprising producers (scamsters in some ways) who KNOW that by putting up a promise laden website, a bunch of hyperbole, a pile of Photochops and a forum, they WILL attract a fanbase. Enough fans and they make actually get some VC from some idiot who hasnt learned yet. Then they can get on the road to FAIL.
This isnt about "lazy devs" at all. Its about unrealistic expectations from a tiny market segment that is almost BEGGING to be taken advantage of.
If any of the features on the list were IN DEMAND and were REALLY doable WoW would have them. Love that game or hate it, only a real moron would deny that Blizzard has the wealth and power (AND control over their destiny) to do ANYTHING currently technologically possible IF there were enough demand for it.
The fact is, most games like Darkfall promise "The Matrix" and end up being virtual serial killer simulators for the handful of bottom feeders that get off on that due to various psychological problems that they have and have yet to confront in RL. What else COULD they be??? Like "Tasos" is going to be the guy that builds Skynet level AI on 6 figure VC funding. LOL, yeah ok. |

Darkfall is like a High School computer project that got a D- grade. Certainly one of the biggest failures in MMO history. I can not even believe we are talking about his game like it is a real game. |

That aside, I believe every gamer needs to set realistic expectations on a title. Now that my bar has been lowered from holodeck to video game I see Vanguard more like Atari's asteroids, and less like the Matrix. .....albeit my pretend slider is very long. Having said that, there is danger here, in lowering expectations too much.....to the point that we give these developers too much support. The collective sentiment seems to waiver depending on wind direction, what Blizzard is doing and the last movie popular culture considers rad. |
