In general, X-Fire statistics only represent consistent X-Fire users and that percentage is very small:
That being said, while the total number of active users isn't huge, except for WoW (~100k users daily) and CoD 2 and 4 (a combined ~250k users), X-Fire does show trends, at least from the small sample populations. The trend for Darkfall appears to be that the number of hours played is going down. Some of this can probably be attributed to a combination of stopping sales and getting over the honeymoon phase. We'll see what the numbers say a week from now after sales have been re-opened for a few days. ~Ripper |

So now we know how Tasos keeps a track of how many people are in the game, versus server load versus how many people they can accomodate . Tee hee hee .... Anyways xfire stats are very unreliable. Though sometimes they do show the first steady downwars trend. With Df state I hardly expect it to have great retention of new subscripers. I think Tasos knows and relies on this. |

DF is adopting the EVE model: start small, and grow steadily.
it's also important to note that statistically, the sub numbers from xfire are not going down, as it's well within the limits of noise.
it's also important to note that since DF is not purchaseable by anyone, that the only change that's possible with DF is downward, ie: people cancelling accounts but not selling them.
since the sub line is actually pretty flat and steady, the data suggest the following 2 conclusions: a) demand for DF is very strong, as people cancelling are clearly selling on their accounts, and/or b) that not many people are cancelling.

quoted for others' amusement value. next time, try waiting until some "fanboi" has actually used the xfire stats in the way you're describing before accusing them of it.

It is Only us as players who assume AV is taking the approach CCP did with eve. EVE never peaked out on players and the game was never "sould out" to the public. it was always aval. Eve was very very hard to get into which is why it was always offered by trails. Darkfall's future servers will not be live eve's single cluster servers. Darkfall was promoted alot by its creators while eve wasnt. Due to the preference to fantasy setting games Darkfall has a major appeal and even had a better start than eve. Darkfall's limit now is due to its creators inability to get another server running to get more people in the game. Sadly the longer they wait the higher chance many people waiting to get in will just move along. Darkfall is limited on how many people it can hold on its server where eve is not, there is a huge difference. due to that difference AV cannot mimic or follow CCP's buisness model. Now due to how many people can really play on darkfall you cannot rely on xfire at all. If people figure out the game is not for them they will can their account which av can quickly sell to someone who is eager to play. Every person who quits is quickly replaced due to the limited space aval. Yes there will be people who see games like this as an opportunity to make money, they will buy accounts when they can and sell them at a higher price. There will always be people desperate to try somthing new.
Av is following their own buisness model. They are slowly finding their way into the market. Now they are even announcing patch notes ect. They have made mistakes, plenty in a short amount of time, however they are going at the right direction. Still they need to can their website. eliminate all the features that didnt make it ect. they need to clean that up. As it is now it is false advertizement and we even seen someone claim to get their money back using the website to their favor. Watching Fanbois drop their soap in a prison full of desperate men. |

It's only natural for an MMO's numbers to fall as players fall out of the "just-launched" hype. This is especially evident due to Darkfall's limited launch. Give it time. It will in no way be a top-played game, but I don't think it'll die any time soon. I think for a game that's had a limited launch it's currently doing very well stat-wise. |

anybody know when Xfire releases more accounts? |

Darkfall was NOT "promoted alot by its creators" -- it was fans & trolls that made Darkfall (in)famous.
they said they would only have a single server over a year ago. it's nothing new. they *could have* had multiple servers at release and tried to move the max number of boxes on release day like the big developers do, but they chose to start small and focus on gameplay quality. the sad thing is, there are plenty of "gamers" here who (continue to) slam Av for it. and people wonder why major developers lie/hype/oversell/release broken games? gamers are just too dumb to realise that Av's actions are exactly what the genre needs.
there is nothing to say that DF cannot focus on growing the game as a single-shard, however i think the FPS nature of the game will make it more practical to go with multiple, regionally-based shards. |

Yep and the sales of rabbit sized hockey helmets also decreased, which prolly means that df is doing bad. Xfire is sorta like those usb coffee makers, their only use is so that you can show to everyone hpow much of a geek you are. They already have. In plenty of other threads. Because you keep a blind eye to the actions of other fanbois, does not mean everyone else does. Funcom needs to change the /petition command into a general nano called "Summon Personal Jester" I keep hearing about this cloud computing thing and I bet that's where FC is putting the grahics engine. Right now they're investing in the weather balloon technology to get all the bits of code up there. Helium is expensive so it might take awhile. |

Or a third conclusion: There is not enough demand to open another server. If the game was truly growing and there was a tremendous demand for the game, Aventurine would make the sign-up and purchasing process easier and they would open far more servers. So my conclusion is that either there is no demand or they simply do not care to make the process more approachable. Either way, its a negative in my opinion. |

I thought that the little smiley at the end of the sentence would of alerted the brain damaged individuals frequenting the mmorpg fora that it was a JOKE/Sarcasm post
Some of you guys need to get a life and stop taking things so seriously......no wonder you are all carebears....taking games seriously...taking msg boards seriously.....die young from a heart attack everytime you loose in PVE in World of Warcraft.
; ) < -----------------------------------------------------Lets put our briliant minds together and comprehend this smiley after the previous run-on sentence
