Anyone  think the game is basically finished now? maybe?

They've been talking about an 09 launch date for years. Actually Nancy MacIntyre (before she left Lucas Arts) said waaay back in 05 that if they were to make another Star Wars MMO, it wouldn't been seen till around 2009. Also they hinted at many times over the years that they wanted to grow the KOTOR franchise

Bioware brings a working copy to Mythic

"Gordon Walton, co-studio director, BioWare Austin: We announced the game around March, but we'd really started on it in the beginning of December 2005." http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3155486

"During our play tests, we've actually had guys come in who are openly hostile to stories in MMOs, and they come out and give us perfect scores. They didn't even expect that that was possible in an MMO. "
http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/47138

Also for those of you who don't know, about 4 months ago Amazon.com accidentally posted a pre-order page for TOR with a 09 release date before it was even announced, it was taken down within a day lol.

Interview on GS, it was playable back in 07.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/drago...=1&sid=6180866

Quote:
GS: Now one of the main reasons EA gave for acquiring BioWare/Pandemic was the upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game you're developing in Austin. After listening to John's comments in the conference call, one walks away with the impression that said MMORPG is a wholly owned IP of BioWare--and therefore EA. Is that correct?

RM: We haven't revealed any details about the game. It's super secret right now. It's got all the characters and story arc that BioWare is known for, and I wish I could say more. It's the best of breed of MMO, with the magic BioWare's associated with, and our goal is to make sure people can't stop playing it.

GS: Right, but judging by John's enthusiasm, it sounds pretty safe to say the MMO is an all-original IP. Would that be fair to say?

RM: [Long pause] We haven't revealed any details about the game. It's super secret right now. It's--

GS: OK, OK, I get it.

GZ: I can say one thing: It looks awesome! [Laughs.] We can say a second thing, too: It's really fun to play. We're already playing it. We were playing it just last week.

Another article about the Hero engine you should all read.

Also it is listed at EA, >clicky< I doubt that will sit there for 2 years like that.

anyways The game is back up on Amazon.com again, though as usual amazon has the date way out. 01/01/10 not even a Tuesday BTW. Another site has it for 1/1/2010, but then I found another site that has it set for October 09.

then go here (UPC database) and hit the "Click here to see if there are any other items on file with the same prefix. " button. Takes you to LEC titles.

Another one set at Nov1st
This one says Oct 20th and provides this mock up.

Lol, as much as I personally would want to see it,I seriously doubt that. There is admitted no real UI, there hasnt even been a closed beta... I hope it will be 2009, but I dont think it will be.

The biggest evidence to TOR's release being somewhat soon is looking back at BioWare's track record.

  1. They do not announce games until they are far along into development
  2. They have never, that I can recall, shown off their games outside of trade shows until they are within a year of release.
  3. The game's engine is middleware, account management and server architecture all middleware which means that the development time to create all these things from scratch are shaved completely.
  4. BioWare has never announced their next game until what they are currently working on is far along into the polish stage.  Mass Effect was pretty much done before Dragon Age forums even opened then they started talking about it at large right around ME's release date.  Dragon Age, as we know, is coming in March and they are out actually talking about the MMO now.  There is information starting to surface from BioWare about ME2.

As far as beta's and the like are concerned, I wouldn't hold my breath.  With the significant shift in TOR from being anything like other MMO's running betas would be more of a hamper than a boon.  I say this because if you look at AOC's beta and launch everyone knew what to expect from the game because of beta and the first 20 levels were done by players in a day or 2 and people were reaching the cap within a week to 10 days of launch.  How many of you, I know I have back in the day but not recently, have seen a crpg beta?  This game seems more and more like a true rpg in an mmo setting unlike everything else which touts itself as an mmoRPG.

If they do have any sort of a beta it will most likely be extremely limited in what classes can be played and what areas players can access.  I would suspect that it would be an arena sort of thing in an effort to pound on their servers because letting any of the story out into the players hands will lead to a very short lived game.

My ultimate guess is a September or October release for TOR.

09 sounds like very wishful thinking, I really doubt it.

There's folks in Edmonton currently testing SWTOR, it's been in the works since Dec 2005 and they purchased an existing engine "HeroEngine" for $100K and all they have to do is develop the worlds, characters and classes. After Bioware's KOTOR 1 & 2 and Mass Effect, I think they'll do skill based classes where you pick specific powers and abilities and upgrade them as you level up. I've been playing Mass Effect on my XBox 360 and it's a pretty badass game and it's greatly improved over the KOTOR series, I'm hoping SWTOR has the quality of Mass Effect's gameplay and interface.

I have confidence in Bioware that they'll pump out a good product, however I have no hopes for it to be like the original SWG, actually I think there'll probably never be another game like pre-CU SWG in the future.

List of SOE lies
What do Treyarch, EA and SOE all have in common? A habit of ignoring customer feedback and suggestions and their inability to properly beta test their products, resulting in crappy products.

This is what is really pissing me off about people. They don’t analyze the facts. I had a bit of skepticism myself and thought this game was set for 2010-2012 at one point as well, till I did some digging. Just because you don’t see a UI, does not mean there isn’t one, they just aren’t ready to show it to you yet (the game is playable). Just because they have not told you classes yet, does not mean there are none (they have hinted all along the way what those might be, today’s new screen shots also give you a hint) Just because we are not in beta at this very moment does not mean there won’t be one soon (they are actually in closed alpha 3 now, you don’t know this because/well it’s closed to all but a few people play testing it, which they have stated in one of those articles)

Heavy beta testing could take as little as 3-4 months to complete (the average cycle) Disks may be already being printed, and as usual on launch day you’ll get a nice little patch to apply any recent fixes. I don’t understand how none of you are picking their hints up.

Sure maybe if something catastrophic happened they might push the launch date out, but I think BioWare’s goal was to complete the game by this time last year, and closed play testing for a while, add content, tweak art, content a bit, add some stuff, then open it up to players, the last half of the testing will be a huge load test, this could happen late this summer/early fall.

Not too far fetched to think we may see TOR in 2009 but my guess will be early 2010.

I'm guessing early '10 myself, but '09 is decent speculation from your evidence. But really, that's only if everything starts flowing and building perfectly in synchronization from here on out. I'm anticipating at least one or two things to take place that will cause a delay on this game's originally planned launch (which probably is set for later this year, though not officially).

If only SW:TOR could be this epic...

I dont care WHEN it comes out i care HOW it comes out. Luckily Bioware seem to take a rare pride in their work and only release when the game is actually ready.

I hope that it will be released when everyone involved in its development agrees that it is done. No sooner.

If that means we wait until 2012, that is 100% fine with me. I would rather play a polished game 3 years from now than a piece of crap today.

I wish more people would follow the example of Blizzard and realize that games should NEVER be released until they are complete...

You forgot about 1 other thing blizzard did...they made their mmo playable by pretty much anything.  I mean you could probably get a 2000 computer and play wow on low settings.  Thats one of the reasons they have the most subscribers is because A LOT of people can actually PLAY the game.

Good point. Blizzard did that right too. Even though it requires such low specs, it still looks good in my opinion. Hopefully they can do the same sort of thing with TOR.

Don't get me wrong... I don't want WOW's graphics rebranded, but in a game genre that requires high populations to reach full potential (as is the case in any MMO), it is wise to make it so that almost anyone can play. Hopefully they can also make it scalable so that it looks great on top-end machines.

We had a guy that works for BioWare come and talk at our school. He said that the ONLY info he could give us about the game is that it WOULD NOT be out before Q2 2010.

hahaha no, THAT was when Blizzard came (I'm in the game art program at Full Sail). The guy from BioWare ACTUALLY talked about making games and what it's like at the studio except for the first five minutes. Blizzard, however, just spent an hour hyping WotLK and showing us trailers we'd already seen.

Im gonna shove a rendom date i think it will come out :).

November 17th 2009.

E3 is coming early June, and i reckon they will announce alot more content, facts about the game there.

If there is a beta, i reckon it would be Aug/Sept, more than likely limited.

Then a release in November. Getting slowly towards school holidays and xmas holidays that would boost the initial subscription base higher than usual.

Players want to spend time on new MMO's, so having the game come out near to a big holiday season is something that would benefit the company and the player.

This is what i think :).

Most MMO's take 4-5 years to release and fail because they are released 1-2 years to soon.  Bioware is known for taking their time and releasing when their game is ready.  Hopefully they will take their time and put long term profits ahead of short term sales.  Which brings me to my guess of,

May, 2011
