Anyone think the game is basically finished now? maybe?
"Gordon Walton, co-studio director, BioWare Austin: We announced the game around March, but we'd really started on it in the beginning of December 2005." http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3155486

Another article about the Hero engine you should all read. Also it is listed at EA, >clicky< I doubt that will sit there for 2 years like that.
anyways The game is back up on Amazon.com again, though as usual amazon has the date way out. 01/01/10 not even a Tuesday BTW. Another site has it for 1/1/2010, but then I found another site that has it set for October 09.

Lol, as much as I personally would want to see it,I seriously doubt that. There is admitted no real UI, there hasnt even been a closed beta... I hope it will be 2009, but I dont think it will be.

The biggest evidence to TOR's release being somewhat soon is looking back at BioWare's track record.
As far as beta's and the like are concerned, I wouldn't hold my breath. With the significant shift in TOR from being anything like other MMO's running betas would be more of a hamper than a boon. I say this because if you look at AOC's beta and launch everyone knew what to expect from the game because of beta and the first 20 levels were done by players in a day or 2 and people were reaching the cap within a week to 10 days of launch. How many of you, I know I have back in the day but not recently, have seen a crpg beta? This game seems more and more like a true rpg in an mmo setting unlike everything else which touts itself as an mmoRPG. If they do have any sort of a beta it will most likely be extremely limited in what classes can be played and what areas players can access. I would suspect that it would be an arena sort of thing in an effort to pound on their servers because letting any of the story out into the players hands will lead to a very short lived game. My ultimate guess is a September or October release for TOR. |

There's folks in Edmonton currently testing SWTOR, it's been in the works since Dec 2005 and they purchased an existing engine "HeroEngine" for $100K and all they have to do is develop the worlds, characters and classes. After Bioware's KOTOR 1 & 2 and Mass Effect, I think they'll do skill based classes where you pick specific powers and abilities and upgrade them as you level up. I've been playing Mass Effect on my XBox 360 and it's a pretty badass game and it's greatly improved over the KOTOR series, I'm hoping SWTOR has the quality of Mass Effect's gameplay and interface.

This is what is really pissing me off about people. They don’t analyze the facts. I had a bit of skepticism myself and thought this game was set for 2010-2012 at one point as well, till I did some digging. Just because you don’t see a UI, does not mean there isn’t one, they just aren’t ready to show it to you yet (the game is playable). Just because they have not told you classes yet, does not mean there are none (they have hinted all along the way what those might be, today’s new screen shots also give you a hint) Just because we are not in beta at this very moment does not mean there won’t be one soon (they are actually in closed alpha 3 now, you don’t know this because/well it’s closed to all but a few people play testing it, which they have stated in one of those articles) Heavy beta testing could take as little as 3-4 months to complete (the average cycle) Disks may be already being printed, and as usual on launch day you’ll get a nice little patch to apply any recent fixes. I don’t understand how none of you are picking their hints up. Sure maybe if something catastrophic happened they might push the launch date out, but I think BioWare’s goal was to complete the game by this time last year, and closed play testing for a while, add content, tweak art, content a bit, add some stuff, then open it up to players, the last half of the testing will be a huge load test, this could happen late this summer/early fall. |

Not too far fetched to think we may see TOR in 2009 but my guess will be early 2010. |

I'm guessing early '10 myself, but '09 is decent speculation from your evidence. But really, that's only if everything starts flowing and building perfectly in synchronization from here on out. I'm anticipating at least one or two things to take place that will cause a delay on this game's originally planned launch (which probably is set for later this year, though not officially).

I dont care WHEN it comes out i care HOW it comes out. Luckily Bioware seem to take a rare pride in their work and only release when the game is actually ready. |

I hope that it will be released when everyone involved in its development agrees that it is done. No sooner. If that means we wait until 2012, that is 100% fine with me. I would rather play a polished game 3 years from now than a piece of crap today. I wish more people would follow the example of Blizzard and realize that games should NEVER be released until they are complete... |

Originally posted by Anubisan You forgot about 1 other thing blizzard did...they made their mmo playable by pretty much anything. Good point. Blizzard did that right too. Even though it requires such low specs, it still looks good in my opinion. Hopefully they can do the same sort of thing with TOR. Don't get me wrong... I don't want WOW's graphics rebranded, but in a game genre that requires high populations to reach full potential (as is the case in any MMO), it is wise to make it so that almost anyone can play. Hopefully they can also make it scalable so that it looks great on top-end machines.

We had a guy that works for BioWare come and talk at our school. He said that the ONLY info he could give us about the game is that it WOULD NOT be out before Q2 2010. |

The guy from BioWare ACTUALLY talked about making games and what it's like at the studio except for the first five minutes. Blizzard, however, just spent an hour hyping WotLK and showing us trailers we'd already seen. |

Most MMO's take 4-5 years to release and fail because they are released 1-2 years to soon. Bioware is known for taking their time and releasing when their game is ready. Hopefully they will take their time and put long term profits ahead of short term sales. Which brings me to my guess of, May, 2011 |
