This leads me to believe that their next-gen mmo will be based on a current existing ip. |

What does the engine of a MMO game effect. Iam not as knowlable with this term in gaming. Also didnt Blizzard say at a recent Blizzcon, that the new MMO will have a completely different IP then past games. And that Kalgan (Lead Developer of WoW) is leaving to join the New Project. |

Nope, they already stated not too long ago it will be a completely new universe and not any of their former titles worlds. They are building this new mmorpg content from scratch. ----------------------- |

Just because they are using the WoW engine does not mean it is a mmo.... The WoW engine was a minor tweak of the Warcraft 3 engine, so it could easily be an RTS, or even another fps! |

Well a Diablo MMO, or WOW 2 don't sound like viable options. I don't think they will create another MMO that is seperate from WOW, because it would compete with their own product. As for a Diablo MMO, they haven't even finished Diablo III, nor do i think they would switch from their traditional action RPG style to an MMO one. ----------------------------- |

I don't think we can say anything definitive about what it is going to be. Could be anything, honestly, though we can say more about what it probably isn't (an mmo or an existing IP they are already developing). |

Looks like it could be a console game: Blizzard have been talking to microsoft |

While Blizzard was completely suprised by WoW's success and forced to come up with many resources to support their growing giant that they didn't have, im still surprised where you get the idea about their schedule of developing their IPs.

An action adventure title based on the WoW engine for the XBox sounds like a good guess - so basically an even more FPS oriented WoW (that is fairly close to it already) for the console. Most likely in the WoW world as well. Extremely good use of content that is already developed. At the same time they can launch the next generation MMO and start to migrate the PC customers from WoW to the new game. My only push-back is with regard to the next MMO launch date. Given the success of WoW I would be surprised if the next MMO is announced well ahead of release as is customary for Blizzard. I think the next MMO will be announced less than a year before release to ensure that the WoW population do not start to look at the next product instead of playing WoW - too much cash is at stake for that. Ergo: I would not be surprised if the next MMO is released before the end of 2010 and is announced at the next Blizzcon (or maybe I am just hopefull :p). |

They already built a game engine for a console action / adventure game, remember it? Starcraft Ghost. The only reasons to use the WoW are, the main developers on the project are ex-WoW devs or they need the MMO engines network code. I still think this is their next MMO and not a fifth game. |

I was thinking about starcraft ghost too. But its an mmo that will bring both console and pc gamers together playing on the same server. I think its really high time for that to happen, and Blizz may be the first company to do it!

companies are already doing it
all of SOEs future mmos will be cross platform w. PC and console, starting this year Ncsoft is planning on at least 3 console mmos Turbine has a console mmo in the works kotaku.com/5015103/interview-turbine-confirms-console-project-talks-future-plans Funcom, havent accomplished it yet, but are working towards that goal for Secret World and maybe AOC
all of this happening while Blizzard has *not* announced any mmo titles for console yet if anything, Blizzard is behind on console intentions |

I read the direct source for link www.incgamers.com/News/15691/BlizzardInTalksWithMicrosoftAboutNextXbox to be specific, Blizzard is in talk w. MS for the console after XBOX360
there are still no plans from Blizzard for the Xbox360 itself
my point still stands most these companies were already planning console mmos before Blizzard even announced their nextgen mmo |

Im a noob concerning pc things. But why is the console can't be compare to a pc since console is design purely for games? Whereas pc have to do so many other things? Example, ps3 seems like a very powerful machine given the cell chip thing, which till now still have not fully tap upon its potential. And if FF can be donw interfacing, whats so hard for other companies?

personally, I think it's better to wait for more mmos to launch on the console before debating that |

I think people are missing something here, they haven't announced their next MMO, just like BioWare hadn't announce SWTOR until that press release saying its SWTOR. Saying we're working on a new MMO and announcing what the new MMO is are two different things. Anyways, speculation is always pointless with Blizzard, the company doesn't leak information and they have a indefinitely long development cycle. I'm more concerned with games coming out in the next five years than whatever may or may not arrive from Blizzard after that. |

Ahhh yes, now that makes sense..... I took it as their 5th game is in development, not them having 5 games that are currently in the development stage. Thanks for clearing that up |
