Time for another advertisement already?  Out of curiosity why is it these xxx vs xxx Siege/PvP threads.  Always get accompanied by the  words "no lag".

Edit: Oh and FYI this movie was posted in another thread, some days ago.

..because Shadowbane is the only other game outside Darkfall that can handle 300+ people in one area without becoming a slideshow?

Can Warhammer handle that many? No.  Looking away in WAR gives you usable FPS, look at the crowd, you either crash or have 1 - 2 FPS.

Can World of Warcraft handle that many? No.  That's rarely needed in WoW and when it does happen, its a slideshow.

Can EVE Online handle that many? No.  They have hard limits on each system server to prevent the slideshow.

Edit: I am talking from experiance with the above 3 examples.  Cable internet and a 9800 GTS should never become a slideshow in any game.

Completely false. The only star system with a cap is Jita, and that makes sense. There have bene 1000 person battles in 0.0 space.

EVE, Lineage 2, Shadowbane, Planetside and DAOC can/could handle that numbers.

Also, if you read the official forums, you would know that the raid was actually a lag-crash-slideshow fest.

If you fail that much and are clueless keep your mouth shut, yes there are some limiters on system/region population, however CCP has employs that monitor traffic and battles, and there is even a request system, say I plan on assaulting MM-039 ,I request a reinforce in the cluster soo it wont lag/crash if alot of people are present.

Lineage 2 regularly has sieges of that size. Here's a video of one I was at in Oct 2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX4wuKsf7gk&feature=channel_page

For EVE Online, 300 ships in one battle is a minor skirmish. A week ago, there was a four-hour battle in system 49-U6U with over 1450 pilots in local, and a consistent 800-1000 pilots for several hours.

That aside, from the large showings at DF battles, it seems like the players are either very unified or very into it. That's a positive sign for the game. Hoping more battle reports or news of some politics starts to surface from the game.

I liked that video. Yes, the animations are crap, graphics leave something to be desired, but that looked really fun. Till they reached the city anyway, then it was just a gaggle.

Looked fun though, probably the best video I've seen so far for DF.

Actually in beta when i was playing WAR we had 400-500 people in a single battle for a keep.

Before Battlegrounds in World PVP WoW easily could handle 300 people and I remember when TBC came out and there were hundreds of people standing outside it.

EVE Online there have been battles between 2000 people in a single system.

Planetside also used to have about 1000 people in a single battle, though since they downgraded their servers I think they capped it much lower now.

To me Darkfall just looks like N64 graphics with DX8 effects and the gameplay looks really poor and the animations are worse than the first 3D stuff.

I am just glad i never bothered wasting my time and money on this game, I normally always jump straight into new games but held off this time and it appears this was a good move.

Is there hirable NPC in game like guards?

This battle looked stupid, especially when people were mining in middle of it? or i am msitaken somewhere?

And is there any benefit from attacking cities and owning them, like skill bonus or you can craft supreme armor or other stuff?

looked as though the city was empty?  i only saw a handful of naked people running around the larger number of armored people.   PVP at its best  1 vs many.

Yeah... I'm a bit confused on the "fighting it out" bit, too...

90% of the video is players running across a wide-open landscape, or just standing around.

I saw a smaller group of people attacking a bank vault. Not exactly PvP.

In all, despite all these vids being posted boasting hundreds of players going at it, I have yet to see any videos of DF actually showing 300+ people "fighting it out".

I've seen it first-hand and/or on Youtube for Shadowbane, Lineage 2, Eve, Planetside, Archlord... and several others. Many players in a small area fighting it out. In DF? I see lots of people running or standing around.

300+ is a large number for a modern mmo?

Think not.

Here's the truth of it, quite a step from the imaginary bullcrap of the desperate troll who has been shot down enough already in this thread.

Doesn't look bad, but threw the whole video no one was actually fighting and if they where, you couldn't see it because the engine didn't show the animation and as for no sound, I think that ones a given as for every open and honest review I have seen so far said the sound is just horrible. I was a skeptic and still am, but at least the game launched, it will be interesting to see if these issue are addressed or this becomes another DnL. I hope it works out thou, a skeptic here that might actually play the game if allot of these current issued are fixed within a timly matter.

I can't remember if the other link of this video posted.  Had sound or if it was just music played over it.  Most people do that though with DF video's.  Because alot of people agree the sounds aren't that good.  Even with good sounds in a game, people still opt to put their own music.  Some even go so far as to use no sound to cut down on file size.  Most of the time the music is just awful though, so no sound stuff can also be looked at as a blessing. lol

I don't know why people keep saying 300 or 300+. This is just around the mid-100s. If you look at WoW raids, their 40 people look like a LOT of players. No, this exaggeration for Darkfall is just horrible advertisements. I think the people who like and play this game have the same mentality as Tasos... and we know how Tasos is.

Exactly what I've been thinking, too. Their enthusiasm and/or need to hype the game is skewing their judgement.

With every video, there are claims of "150+" or "300+". And yet, in every video, there's never more than 40-ish on-screen at a time. And, for all we know, we're seeing the same groups of people from one shot to the next; since you can't see their names, it's hard to say.

Also noticed when watching that the graphics settings seemed to have been turned down as well... at least the shadows were set to either low or off. In some shots you'd see nothing but round blobs below the characters, rather than accurate shadows. In others there were no shadows at all. I'd wager they were turned off because if they were left on there *would* have been graphics lag; dynamic shadows are heavy on the GPU.

So... from the videos I've seen, I would conclude that DF runs smoothly with about 30-50 in view at once, with graphics settings turned down.

Call me a "troll" for pointing it out... But hey, I'm not the one recording the videos. I'm only going by what I see. And, like I said before, in other MMOs I've played and/or seen videos for, if the description says "150+ Mass PvP", there's actually a huge number of players PvP'ing in them. Not smaller groups of people on a cross-country run or standing around; I've yet to see anything like that in a DF vid.

Really tired of seeing these 300+  or 150+ or 200+ battle posts.  Having hundreds of toons fighting simultaneously in one area is NOT a new mmorpg concept and has been done before in other games.

Requiem boasts server vs server battles and the devs claim 1000 people can battle in the pvp zone.  I seriously doubt thats possible without crashing the game or suffering horrendous lag and I've seen nowhere near 1000 people in the pvp zone but there ya go.  Why bother with hundreds when you can possibly have 1000?  So really the concept is nothing new.

that's funny because there's no such thing as a 9800gts.  Sounds like someone has a 6800gt and is compensating.
