And WoW is a copy of Everquest which was a copy of Ultima which was a copy of Meridian which was a copy of old telnet stuff...

Or do you mean the art design that Blizzard stole from Game Workshop's Warhammer years ago?

Your opinion only means you saw the game and didnt actually played it.

That's just my opinion...

You guys totaly amuse me. Show me a game that is not a copy of the previous one in MMORPG genre. I only have played Eve online as being different, and if what I have heard about Ultima Online are true, it is also unqiue. All others are copies of each other with some different additional ideas/implementations.

Go back to WoW and enjoy it

Would you like to tell us what makes WAR a 99.9% copy of WoW?

Last time I checked WoW didnt invent instanced pvp or Open field pvp objectives.

Also the combat in WAR is basically a updated version of DAoC not at all like WoW.

Is wow your first MMO? because a Game has orcs its a copy?

Hell man even the graphics look like a more stylized version of DAoC.

Playing: EvE, Ryzom

At a quick glance Warhammer looks exactly like WoW, but I think there are a lot of key differences that seperate it.  For one the oRvR is coming along nicely, I find myself doing nothing but RvR for days and missing entire PvE zones because of it.  Second the character progression is structured differently.  It looks similar to WoW, but remember Warhammer has been around a lot longer than Warcraft has been, so if they seem similar I would reconsider who copied who.

At first glance, the OP is right. Mythic even started out making WAR to basically be a WoW clone, and that much of it shows. However, with each update, patch, addition of content to the game it becomes less and less like WoW, and more and more like an updated DAoC.

Because of how they started their design process, WAR will never truly be a new DAoC, but because of the changes they keep making, it can no longer really be called a WoW clone either. This game will pretty much always be somewhere in the middle. Because of this, many people have trouble seeing the uniqueness of this game at first glance, but it is there. Even if it's not for you. Just don't expect to play this game like you did WoW (like a 2nd job), because it's not designed for that type of immersion. You'll get burnt out.

It's hilarious how WoW fanbois think the universe revolves around their game.

And that's just my opinion.  :)

ACtually if anything WAR looks alot more like LoTRO than WOW......It has some elements of WoWs gameplay though....... The scenarios look almost identical to WoWs battlegrounds.

From Wikipedia.org

Warhammer:

The first edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle (WFB) was released by Games Workshop in early 1983. Prior to this release, the company dealt primarily with the importing of American Role-playing games, as well as support and review of gaming products, either through their White Dwarf magazine periodical or as separate commercially available products. The game was a mix of a simple rule system with a background that was drawn from standard fantasy themes. The dedication was, in part, "to Michael Moorcock… whose fault it all is". The game thrived, and subsequent supplements added the particular background to the game. Each "Army List" included a partial history and some related aspects such as notable figures or short illustrative stories. With the publication of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay in 1987 the setting had moved from background to the game to a full-fledged fantasy setting.

Warcraft:

The Warcraft universe is a fictional universe in which a series of games and books published by Blizzard Entertainment are set. Players were first introduced to this universe in 1994 with the original Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in Eastern Kingdoms of the planet Azeroth. Known worlds in the Warcraft universe include Azeroth, Draenor the Red World (later called Outland after what happened in Warcraft III), Argus, K'aresh, and Xoroth. The Warcraft Game series is made up of four core games, with Warcraft II and Warcraft III having one expansion each, and World of Warcraft having two.

Like I said, Warhammer came before Warcraft.

It's not a WoW Clone. WoW has a functioning combat system.

Hmm, WAR a copy of WoW?  How about WoW a copy of WAR?  No game has ever been more about lore and PvP then WAR, if you've even played it, you'd understand.  In WAR, your always fighting to capture a city, or getting teams together to do huge instanced dungeons, in WoW, your doing huge dungeons but what else?  Battlegrounds?  Wintergrasp?  Excuse me if I say so myself, the idea of Wintergrasp was just a bit WARs idea.

Thank you

EvE is like a total rip off Freelancer but a MMO. But the combat of EvE is nothing to Freelancer (which is not an MMO but had multiplayer). And Freelancer borrowed from Star Wars or some shit like that...I dunno.

War is the first mmorpg I couldn't even play the whole first free month. I forced few characters to around 30ish, then saw no point in the game and threw into recycling. What a waste of €.

I hate the whole "who copied who" fights, but I have to disagree with this one just cause EvE is in NO way a Freelancer MMO.  EvE is more like the X-games where the dynamic econmy is the heart of the game, with combat revolving around that.  Jumpgate Evolution (as much as been told)  will be more like an online version of Freelancer, where space combat via capital ships and fighter dogfights are the center, and the econmy revolves around that.  As for the WAR and WoW battle, just like in ALL SINGLE PLAYER GAMES, there will be some overlap of gameplay and content.  Resistance vs Halo, Killzone vs Call of Duty, Final Fantasy vs Lost Odysee, Guitar Hero vs Rock Band.  Same genre, very similiar gameplay, but slighty different ideas incorpirated with slightly different skins.

So why are MMO's the only ones getting tagged with copying each other? Is it because a lack of a console war within the PC community?  Well I thank the gods for that lol!  But seriously, every game has its own innovations and ideas behind it that fit different niches of players, and RARELY do we see true innovation that breaks the mold.

I don't think MMO's are the only ones who get that tag.

Everyone has heard a song that they know they've heard before with different lyrics... (same chord structure etc)

Altho I guess I do find it amusing when people talk about a computer game released post 2000... being a total rip off of a table top gaming system.

Then of course table top gaming was just chess with different "graphics".. Unlike Pen and Paper which was taking the strategy out of Chess turning it into a gambling game (dice) and removing the pieces (aka graphics).   Then of course when you look at any "fantasy" game you then look at the influences they "ripped off" and even if you go back to some of those authors... (because most of them used books for inspiration)

You then look at the lore that they ripped off to write their books.  Or perhaps in most cases Mythology is a better word to use.

Everyone gets inspiration from somewhere.  Most people don't even claim to have created something new or will talk in depth about what inspired them.

So yes the entire process is a joke (who copied who).

My view is some games suck and some suck less.  A few are even a lot of fun.  Odd that nobody has figured out how to copy fun yet?

I don't really care what the inspiration was... I just want a game that entertains me.

Typical thread: Blocked, blocked, blocked, intellegent post I may not agree with, blocked, blocked, blocked, intellegent post I may agree with, blocked, blocked...

Agreed!

Bring me the fun!  Bring me the exicetment!

But since these are MMO's...

Bring me the fun day in and day out!  Bring me the excitement that will last for years!

I believe this is the primary flaw in this "New-Age" of MMO's.  Sure they're entertaining!  Sure they're fun!  But...you forgot about the persistent online world...and thus you've created a MORPG or MOFPS...leaving out the multiplayer and giving us that cool online solo experience that we always wanted to pay $15 a month for.

Sorry about that rant, but that is directed to the new developers of MMO's.  I just hope one of these games can be fun and shared with OTHERS for a good amount of time (1 year minimum before I burnout please, no more 60 days and then poof no more content).

I know some of may not agree with me, but this is my opinion.

Although they share many similarities (As do a lot of MMO's these days), the difference (KEY difference) is the RvR gameplay.

And add levelling your character purely by participating in scenarios and RvR. That itself, to me, is bliss.

But looking at how you posted your opinion (Basically lacking any arguments), you didn't look past the UI and controls, did you? No matter, though.
