The folks from Fallen Earth have provided us with this overview of the game's weapon system

Up to six weapons at a time can be slotted and players can switch between them. Switching is not instantaneous and takes around one second.

There are few “real” weapons in the early stages of the game, so characters will have to use a variety of weapons made from whatever they can find. Players will work their way up from such weapons as crossbows, zip guns and pipes to more advanced weapons like assault rifles, submachine guns and baseball bats wrapped in razor wire. Progressing through the game will generally give way to better scavenged or crafted weapons. Towards the later stages, there will be a mixture of real weapons and salvaged weapons. Weapons have weights assigned so what and how much a player can carry will be limited by their strength.

Read the Weapons Overview

It sounds good, but i wish developers would try to add something different than the normal get a better weapon as you level up/progress.

There is a VERY easy way to approach weapons.Using the baseball bat for example, you could give players at early stages of the game OPTIONS to find items that enhance their weapon ,such as the razor wire for example. Then players would have a choice of using their found item[razor wire] on a plain bat early on or wait and add the razor wire to a better weapon they find later on.This way it gives players more choice and freedom.Sure they may be a lot stronger at their current progress in the game, but they would have wasted their razor wire too early perhaps? The game would of course have to plan out all the drops and make it work.Another example would be say a CO2 cartridge to boost your crossbow/gun,or maybe a high tension cord to again boost it,do you use it now or save it for a weapon later?Thje drops would be random and very rare and should drop from an appropriate enemy at any given time of progress in the game.

So if a player wants to grind for days on end until they get a rare drop to make their early weapon over powering, then all the power to them,it is their choice. This may also distract a game from becoming ANOTHER speed leveler, wheree EVERYONE is racing to end game.

An opinion once stated is no longer humble.

I get what your saying there.  What you have to take into account though is the weapons develop as the players develop the crafting skills neccary to make better weapons and keep them supplied with the ammunition they need to continue opperating.  So when you look at the combination of the weapons available and the crafting system together you see why at the start you get a pointy stick and a rock.  Then as you move up through the different areas to more developed locations and more skilled craftspeople you get your bayonet and assault rifle or rocket launcher.  Or at least thats how I'm reading it.

Looks interesting. We'll see how it actually plays out. I agree there may be better ways to work the weapon progression system, but this is how they want it for now. I look forward to seeing the game.

Oh, I read it.  Sure, the images are new -- those haven't been released to the public yet.  But that article, in its ENTIRETY, was blatantly c&p'd from the FE-InfoTerminal.  That's not 'something from the folks of Fallen Earth', that's someone else's words snipped out and pasted.  That's unprofessional and lazy.

Ever thought that FE-InfoTerminal could have gotten that exact same information from the folks of Fallen Earth?

You know.... something they call a press article they sent to everyone.

Sure.  I could possibly grant that... save for one small fact.  I happen to be co-owner of the FE-InfoTerminal, and I distinctly recall writing a number of those passages - those I didn't write, my associate did.  Soo... yeah, I'm going to have to put the kibosh on that theory.

If you don't believe the time difference, feel free to check the last modified date on the Equipment -> Weapons & Ammo page.  From my end, it comes up as Friday, August 22, 2008 6:35:12 AM...  and at that point, all of the information on that page had pretty well been set.  If you can find a way to prove me wrong, I'm open to suggestions... but I know that I'm in the right in this.

Well if they took the info from your website without your permission... and you are angry about it... then only thing you can do is contact Stradden in PM or something.

Lazy huh? Well, let's just take a second to explain something. When I say something was provided by a company, I mean just that. The company gave us the developer journal. We've come to elarn that tehre was a mix-up on that end... something that happens from time to time. Now that we know about it, we are removing it from the site. We have been promised new, exclusive content in the near future.

So lazy, no. Misunderstanding, yes. But thanks for jumping to insulting conclusions. If you were indeed the one who worked on that over at the other site, My apologies, as I said, there was a mix-up at FE. You should maybe check and make sure an honest mistake wasn't made before you call someone else unprofessional and lazy.

Jon, I'm pretty sure DarkTreader was calling out the contacts who provided your site with this info as "lazy and uprofessional", and not you or your staff.

my fav weapons from  Fallout3 were the customizable ones. unlikely that an AKA47 survived the apoc. People would have bootlegged weapons. Love the realism.

Ahh,

Well, I take less person offense at that :) but I still think that this was probably an honest mistake. It doesn't happen often, but we've had this kind of thing happen to us in the past. It sucks, but as long as apologies are forthcoming, it's best to let 'er go.

That's exactly what I meant... didn't mean offense to you, Stradden.  I've always known MMORPG to be very professional about the way they handle their business, and I tend to browse the stories and articles frequently enough to know that the people on the staff know their stuff.  If the comments I made were offensive, I apologize for that.  I'd also like to thank you for handling all of this in such a timely and professional manner, it's not always easy when the lines of communication get a little fubar'd.
