Fed up with the rubbish performance in WAR with my current machine so ive plumped for a new machine . Found this from mesh which on paper looks quite good (I think) however i welcome opinions on this spec machine for a cool £800 (may go for the xfire mode mobo for an extra £60 but unsure), im mainly playing warhammer online but will maybe try a some other games when im able to play them. possibly a better PSU. 550watts could limit you at some point. |

Looks good to me, BTW AMD users get more sex according to these so I ordered an X3 phenom 2 720 BE. X3 seems to perform better on average than the X4's and if you want to upgrade your Mobo later it can go into the AM3 socket.

It will probably look like an Home Theater PC then a desktop. 550w is no good if it comes with the case. General rule of thumb is to order cases without their own PSU. Then get a good one. For what you are getting, I think 800 pounds is too much. |

Howver the game is not perfectly optimized yet and special "effects" from spells will hog you down no matter what :P Anyhow,
a) CPU - I'm an AMD user & fan myself got an AMD Athlon64 x2 6000+ and I'm happy with it - Runs cool with a cheap Alpine64 and runs good. YES I'D GO AMD AGAIN AND AGAIN :P b) PSU & Case- DEFINATELY go for more. I recommend a 600-660w one - They're not expensive really. - Case I recommend one without a PSU so you get to choose one. For the actual case I'd go Apluscase from Tagan. I got the El Diablo and the damn thing rocks ! (Why ? 360mm side fan and 250mm front fan, meshed panels, nice lights, switches + fan control implemented, easy as hell to install and quite roomy). <- Also this case provides great cooling if you ask me and it's silent. However it is big :P c) Motherboard - I haven't researched this particular one but in general Asus are decent. You may wanna check complete specs on their site and post your questions here :) (checking reviews also is a good idea) d) RAM - I'd go with 4gigs than 8gb if you want to save money - otherwise, 8gb is nice to have but not mandatory. e) Go for a 1000gb disk - I got the Samsung Spinpoint runs at 20 celsius and price was good ! f) DVD-RWs are cheap really now so make sure you get a value one instead of an expensive one. Why ? Cause there's no point in having a really expensive one in my experience! g) ATI HD4850 is a very good card, however you may want to consider an Nvidia Geforce GTS250 - Gainward is selling a 1GB one for the same price as the 4850 ( I got one myself and I'm happy). the HD4800 series runs a bit too hot for my taste :) h) 22" LCD - MAke sure you check out the 24" new Acer models and also the Samsung ones. For some reason, here where I am the price is approximately the same with the one you mention. i) GET A SOUNDCARD :P - It improves the experience a lot - Althought Warhammer does not support EAX for some reason (yes it's there but it's grayed out for me at least even with ALChemy installed etc. - Worked before latest patch BUT it's too buggy.) I recommend Asus XONAR or the X-Fi PCI-E Titanium...Also Razer Barracuda is decent and you can couple it with great headphones :)
Let us know if you have questions :D
Edit: You get less power if you plug it into a power breaker ? Never occured to me / Never witnessed issues with that. (you mean the extension with many plugs I suppose? English not my native language :P) Edit: Home theater PC ? Is that good or bad comment ? I can't see why you think this system is a home theater PC tho

Thanks for the feedback
Ill have another look around - i thought that was quite a good deal for 800 although i do admit the psu could be better Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it. |

I think OP is buying his pc from a company like dell
for a single gfx card you dont need more then 700w anyway so 550w is fine |

Oh I see. Keep in mind that "branded" computers are always more expensive and most of the times inferior to one you could build yourself for the same price.
If you don't have the experience it's real easy to build, lots of guides on net or you can buy all the parts and pay a technician to build it for you instead.
If you do build it yourself you'll have a lot of fun AND save money (if it works in the end that is :D). |
