So rather than just have players disable /tells or /whispers by simply checking the box in the chat tab, the solution is it add RMT to every server? Nice thought process there, professor.

If anyone is trying to say that VG players are happy about this, or indiffrent - Read teh discussion thread on the VG boards before posting nonesense.

I think this is a stupid move as it causes a lot of these types of rather negative threads.  That said however this isn't really changing anything other then making it so a player that wants to buy something for cash can go to the live gamer site rather then the chineese spammer sites or go to ebay.  So from a player perspective nothing has really changed.

This issue is far much bigger than just someone who wants to buy something.

How does this affect people that sell or now are enticed to sell items?  Those are also the people you will raid with, the people you will quest with, the people you share game real estate with.

When the motivation for playing a game changes from enjoyment to a cash opportunity then the entire community changes.  Need or greed?  Maybe not anymore.  Kill stealing has a cash payout now.  Just small social ettiquettes don't have the same power they did before.  It is almost like rewarding bad behavior.

Why would gold sellers stop farming and selling gold when they have live gamer to shield them from credit card charge backs?  If anything this opens the door to such things.  It also turns some of the people you play with into gold farmers, which in turn changes their motivations for playing from enjoyment to employment.

The people that choose not to use this service are also affected as it will drive supply of in game currency up as people try to make extra money off it and farm more.  That devalues currency from the typical person who just plays.

There is no good side to this at all.   All the talk about lack of impact or downplaying the effects of this don't really change much.  In the end it isn't a benefit to the players or the community.

"Cash shop comes to Vanguard"

It was only a matter of time? :|  Totally not surprising before you know it every major MMO will have some sort of RMT, I think we are well on our way to that.

This reeks of Smedley. I didn't see this coming, seeing how Vanguard seemed to be picking up a little popularity lately, actually being a good game now.

I have never wished ill on an MMO before but Vanguard is sorely testing me.

I guess SoE are banking on the revenue from cash shops exceeding the subscriptions they lose from players who find it game breaking. I hope they are proved wrong for the sake of the genre.

If anyone is thinking that this wont be the standard on all there games .. you are kidding yourself ..

It has already begun on SWG and EQ2 it will be full blown by this time next year ..

There new titles ,The Realm , DC Universe and The Agency will all ship with RMT , TCG, cash shops of some sort .. This is your SOE of the future and any of there older  games  that cant support this business model wil be cancelled.

 Lol @ SOE

We got yer game and were holding it Hostage ..

I've been a Vanguard fan for as long as I can remember... This news shocked the hell out of me... At first I thought it was an April Fools joke and after I asked that my post was promtly deleted... Not only was I in shock of this LiveGamer service but the overmoderation was killing me. The volunteer moderators are a whole other problem. Vanguard has been kind to me and the community on Seradon has been second to none. I've already written my goodbye post on the Seradon Forums.

SOE took my favorite game and ruined it.

I wish I had the link but I read DC universe will have an item shop.  Sony is publishing DCU.

Publishers potentially make more money from item shops by taking advantage of those who are addicted to mmorpgs (and I believe it can be a real and serious addiction) and stupid with their money, i.e. impulse buyers.

We all know someone who is deep in debt due to impulse buying.  Someone who can't control his spending habits.  Thats the people item malls target.

Expect more item mall games if sony's efforts are deemed successful.  There has always been many but none of those publishers have a high profile like sony.

As much as I hate the concept, it really won't change anything in the game.  The folks that want to use real to buy plat always could, and they always have, since the days of Everquest.

The only difference is that now SoE gets the proceeds from this instead of 3rd party gold farmers.  So now when someone (who is willing) wants to buy a Galleon with real money, they'll but it directly from another player on the exchange instead of buying plat from a plat farmer.

Hate the concept, can't imagine why anyone would want to spend real money on game items... but in the end, games that prohibited this could never enforce it.  It happens :(

I am not so optimistic. The fact that they have ALREADY tried in on EQ2 seems to indicate that it is indeed a money money. Remember that implementing this is NOT costless. If they are willing shelf out the costs, it must mean that they believe that it will make money.

And if they have already been running RMT in EQ2 for a while, it is hard to believe it is not making money for them, if they are expanding the operations.

At least when Brad screws up it is because he is trying to make a good game.

Smed/SOE could care less what their actions do to their games and the communities that have developed.

This is a great idea. Now all the people who have quit VG have a legal place to go sell their stuff.

I knew SOE would turn things around somehow! I'd been sitting on my VG account for months, considering it totally worthless and time wasted. This is a fantastic idea as far as I'm concerned.

Oh wait...nobody's gonna be buying accounts for this fucked up heap, are they? DAMN YOU SOE!

Uh, I dont get it.

So, this system is actually just a real money auction house?

And people are getting their panties in a bunch because they think its an Item Mall?

Im not for it but Im not going to quit simply because they implement some kind of legal eBay thing.

I would say its foolish to throw a tantrum and overreact but why, that would be like asking the tide to stop.

The really sad part is that people that are new to the game might actually believe these sensationalist headlines meant to spread misinformation.

Like many other players canceled my sub and i won't pay again for a soe game.  like Lethal, I think RMT is cheating, no more no less. I won't play DFO because of illegal cheaters and macro ers, I can't play VG because of legal cheaters. I can say I was a SOE's MMORPGS fan (played SWG, VG and some time, EQ2, played POTBS) now you can call me a SOE HATER.

This game is really great but I stop because of many many many things: SOE did nothing for this game, nothing. No addon, no boxes, very very small team, low funds (plenty of bugs still there 2 years after the release: VG looks like more a beta than a release), and now, RMT in all servers. They did NOTHING, players are waiting for POTA since months... against of POTA they have.. RMT.

I know you are angry - and you have a right to be

but I disagree with this statement

SOE did 6 major updates, I listed links to the 2 most recent

update 5

www.massively.com/2008/05/29/vanguard-game-update-5-goes-live/

update 6

www.massively.com/2008/09/13/vanguard-game-update-6-goes-live-adds-free-trial-newbie-area/

and are doing a free expansion later this year with raised level cap of 55 and AA

www.allakhazam.com/story.html

The team is raising the level cap, adding AA's (Alternative Advancement) and implementing new raids and revamps to existing group content.

Not an addon but 1 Raid. Players waits POTA since maybe 8 months or more. Silius did a good job at the beginning, I remember very well because played Vg at launch then stopped and took another sub for GU2 etc ( a lot of bug fixes, khal's rewamp) so everyone could expect a relaunch .

Don't expect more than 1 dungeon/2 years and little things like fishing. because of $

What about NT's rewamp ? Leth Nurae's rewamp ? They stopped. Khal's rewamp was GREAT.I remember, but they stopped. because of $.

What about diplomacy ? No more dev for it. because of $

2 years to create 1 trial, maybe 1 year for 1 dungeon...  then they "destroyed" our char's design. They look awfull now. Awfull. :( because of $

I'm sorry but I can't trust anymore Soe.

"the nature of the beast"/ agree.  $$$$$

SWG down

VG, down

next will be EQ2 for sure

I have no problem with legal trading....

Here is what I have a problem with...  no cap..

So anyone can start a legitimate transaction... what will that do to the in game exchange?? Will there be any items it in or will everyone try and get real money for their items... why waste time with selling it in game...

Or will everyone try to make as much in game gold as possible and try to sell it for real money... will that drive all the prices(in game gold) up to where if you don't buy gold you wouldn't be able to afford anything?

I'm not sure how this benifits the publishers other than a reduction of fraud meaning less cost for customer support and fraud proection.. (not sure how much that is costing them at this point)

Without a cap I see a lot of people trying to make money playing the game instead of actually playing the game and contribute to the economy and social environment. All the ilegal companies out there now have a safe haven to expand and increase production. What does that do to the value of ingame items?? what does that do to the people that don't participate? I don't think we'll see the effects right away... but once everyone gets on the bandwagon we're going to see a ton of high priced (gold) items because anyone and everyone can buy gold.

And what about people playing characters they just bought? Starting the game at level 50 means there are going to be an increase of people that don't know how to play their class...

We are going to see people buying high level characters to farm gold and items to make money...

With out a cap this is going to get out of hand.....

Cash Shop is a guarantee from me to the ALL game developpers that they will never see my business.

A Game is a GAME, how much REAL LIFE money you can spend in a GAME should not impact how great or succesful you are in that game.

The forums are packed with people about to quit if this goes live. However, the moderators are out in force, threads and posts are being deleted at a record pace.
