Whenever I click play for FFXI. It begins to launch the game, then I get an Error report, dealing with FFXImain.dll, after much searching the closest fix I could find. Suggested going back to Nvidia 1.75 drivers. I did, same error persist. Tried turning many things off, playing with resolutions, nada. Anyone here happen to have any suggestions? 99% sure it's not my system causing problem. As I just got done playing 2 hours of Left 4 Dead and earlier today I played Age of Conan just fine. Not to mention i've never had any problem with system stability. |

This game has the most problems when it comes to compatabilty, or atleast it did. I used to have to run an emulator to get it to work with my graphics card... (which is against terms of service) Try doing a few searches for people with similar problems pehaps someone has an emulator or something for you, its against the rules but its the only way to play for some people. It also doesn't change game play at all, just makes the game actually run on your system. |

On someone's advice, I downloaded the FFXI Benchmark program and ran it. It ran fine with a score of 6897 for Low, and 4954 for High. Still had no luck in solving this problem, I just keep getting told it's a problem with Nvidia drivers. *shrug* |

You should see a button on the very front of POL, before you log in, that says check files or something to that. Give that a try. you might have file that has become corrupted. Just one suggestion. If the game ever asks you to delete the HAL.dll file DO NOT! It is an essential windows .dll. SE and since fixed the problem, but there was an issue a few years ago that invoved this file. Caused you to not be able to load windows after you restarted. I lost a LOT of pr0n. |

It sounds like there was a problem with installation or updating, and the file became corrupt. A hash check of the files(like ic0n said) will let you know if any files were corrupt and fix them for you. It doesn't sound to me like it's any problem with NVidia drivers. My friends and I all played with relatively new(8800 Ultra SLI for me, 9800 for my friends) and never had any compatibility issues. I run a 64-bit operating system, and that's also never caused any compatibility issues with FFXI, which impressed me. The last thing you want to try, if you want to go that route, is to obtain an up-to-date version of the .DLL from a friend of yours that may currently play. If you don't know anyone you trust that plays FFXI and can send you the .DLL, then you may not want to bother. If an update was corrupt, it's probably more than just the one file, anyway. Funny thing is, I installed the Trial on my other PC with Windows 7 beta, and it works fine. That's also using a Nvidia card. A FX5600 running game fine with no problems, and my 8600GTS crashing the game, maybe I was wrong it might be might system. I'll do the file check as you all suggest above. |
