Hello everyone i am at a fork in the road, i am either going to sub to EQ2 or EvE online, i played EvE for about 2 months and was getting ready to get into Intys before i dropped it, and i play EQ2 for the free 30 days and now im trying to decide which game is more for me.

I prefer PvE Fantasy Games, but i really enjoyed EVE's PvP system. When i play a Fantasy game such as EQ2 I want challenging dungeons/raids throughout the entire game, but in EVE's cause i love the skill system and the Market. So it's really hard to decide which one i want to play. I like game's that make me feel like i need to login, rather addicting games. Since these are the EVE Forumboards im also going to post this in the EQ2 Forumboards to get feedback from players of both games. So which game do you think is for me?

EvE Online vs Everquest 2 = oranges vs apples

I have to agree...hard to compare these two games. I played  Eve only briefly..just couldn't get into to it. Plan on giving it another try though. EQ2 I tried for a bit....Enjoyed it...just started AoC though..and really like that and Lotro...My game style would lean toward EQ2...but that's just my preference. I'm no expert on either game. Now that I think of it...this is probably no help to you in the least..lol.

WoW, Lotro are ten times the game EQ2 is.

Its a bastard spin off of one of the best MMOs ever created and simplified down to WoWs level.

The classes are terrible the graphics make every character look like Wax statue.

Its basically just a lame quest grind with a static world and really bad dungeons.

The crafting system used to be nice but now after constant changes is almost as bad as WoWs crafting system.

God it gives me a bad taste in my mouth just thinking of that failure of a game compared to the amazing EQ experience i've had.

Why because I'm a honest EQ vet? 

I'm sorry if you don't agree but EQ2 is shallow compared to EQ1.

Im not trolling im being straight forward with the game, if that hurts you somehow maybe you shouldn't take videogames so seriously.

Sub to EQ for a couple of months and do the Eve trial a couple of times and see which you prefer and login into more.

Because not everyone agrees with you.

Because the op has already stated that he enjoys EQ2, and therefore does not need an explantion about why you dislike it. He's not asking for hate.

To the op: There is no comparing the two games, they just don't have any common ground. if you can manage it, my suggestion would be to subscribe to both games and play whichever one you happen to be in the mood for.

Not defending EQ2, just wondering what level you got up to in it?

I think it has FAR more depth than WoW.

I ve played both games, I have to say i was realy intrigued by Eve when i first read about it a few years back so i started playing, it is a different game, open ended with a large community but it could never keep me going for some reason. it felt as not quite much action was into it for my liking and the lore did not trigger any positive thoughts to me.

EQ2 on the other hand i started on release an played for quite a while only to quit cause the rl friends i was playing with moved to a different game. I d have to say I realy enjoyed it as a new game but had higher expectations from it since i was an EQ1 player.

making a comparison between the two would be realy hard since there are only few things those two different games share in common.

Personaly i d go for EQ2 but that's just my choice cause i enjoy playing a game where apart from the game-play i can enjoy a nicely designed world where sounds and visual create an atmosphere add to the RPG feeling. 

Both communities are nice since they are composed mostly of mature players with gaming plan and tactics.

Both games require from you to put quite a lot of time and effort into them in comparison to other mmorpgs.

So you just have to decide what aspects of a game provide a certain amount of entertaintment for you and that will help you making up your mind.

I would have to disagree with you mate, I as well took quite a beating when those post-EQ1 mmorpgs came out since EQ1 was for me the ultimate Online gaming experience. But I would have to be realy narrow minded if i were to condemn each game that comes out because they were not a remake of EQ1 with better graphics.

The way EQ2 was during release was not good, cause it made the game feel realy linear but that changed over the time, encounters are quite fun, content does allow both types of gamers (solo or group) to lvl up and the classes are nice.

ok first thing, The title Eve v EQ2 is dumb, im sorry one game is a pvp FFa sandbox spaceship MMOG the other is a Run of the mill fantasy PVE mmorpg.

Hell if he likes Eq2 then he should play both, god knows eve is actually a great second MMO due to the offline skill training.

Also on the topic of EQ2 i never said everyone shared my opinion, I played EQ for a long ass time and Eq2 from beta to six months after where I uninstalled in disgust.

My hatred for EQ2 is my opinion. Also I don''t expect every game to be like Eq1 but i totally expect a Sequel to one of the best Pve dungeon crawlers ever to actually be as deep and enjoyable as the original game.

Sony failed us by making EQ2 nothing but a ugly version of WoW.

Someone above asked why I thought WoW was better, Well one for me I enjoyed the graphics in WoW more.

I liked the dungeons and Raids in WoW more and the classes were done better for me.

Sure EQ2 had a nice mature community, I am in no way slamming the people that play that game.

Hell i would even go as far as to say WoW is actually the real sequal to EQ just going by the way there dungeons adn raids are.

But of course this is all my opinion and you will all take it like im trying to spout fact.

No, because your a very biased EQ Vet who thinks that EQ2 should have been an EQ1 with better graphics.

I expected a superior game, a game Deeper and more complex  gameplay wise. What did I get? WoW with wax people graphics and terrible cast animations. Come on the raid content in EQ2 is lame compared to EQ.

There's a reason most EQ Raid vets went to WoW.

I enjoyed EQ 2 when I played it 2 years ago and I prefered it over WoW. EQ 2 rocks. Now having said that Everquest in it's prime was the best fantasy MMO ever created. It was complex, and it was full of risk and rewards. Fantasy MMOs these days like WoW, EQ 2 and even the LOTRO you mentioned are for brain dead zombies who enjoy MMOs one easy mode.

As for which game is better the choice is clear:

If you want a lot of PvE, play EQ 2, it's the most mature MMO out of all the second gen fantasy MMOs. It comes loaded with a bewildering array of content that is so vast and expansive that it makes EVE look like a barren wasteland. There are landmarks and set pieces everywhere.

Now if you want to play a PvP/PvE game that is highly dynamic where the player hold sway over every single aspect of economy to poltics then play EVE. There is a lot of risk vs rewards elements in EVE and the game sport a true frontier jive. Everything is possible, both good and bad. While the community is generally mature and extremely helpfull, EVE is also riddled with scammers, griefers and scumbags. The fact that someone can rip you off and steal billions of your hard earned work and destroy your guild from the inside out is a FEATURE in EVE. Make a note of that.

On the PvE side the content  varies from boring to pathetic if you choose the combat route. However if you're more of the industrial and market type EVE offer the deepest economy in the MMO world. The possibilites of what can be done will totally blow mind.

Why would you expect that?  It was never designed to replace EQ, its was designed to attracted the playerbase that was not playing EQ1, or had left EQ1.   It was always supposed to be that way.

I loved EQ2 and have played it for 4+ years. I tried EQ1 but didn't enjoy it and left after a few weeks.  Complete different games as designed.

To answer the OP. Play them both  for a bit or , hell play them both for a long long time. Both  EVE and EQ2 are great games.

EDIT: Just wanted to let the op know i have also played Eve for 4 years. So you can play and enjoy both games at the same time.

I used to work on EQ2 a few moons ago, and I am an EVE player. As such I really DO actually empathize with your thought process here.

Despite the gesturing and protestations to the contrary, EQ2 is a good game, with depth. In my highly biased opinion, EQ2 was always better than WoW. What WoW did to MMOs is simplify things, and draw in tons of people who had never played online games before, especially women... and that's great.

But EQ2 has more depth, the game is much prettier (in my opinion) and the community is a lot better than WoWs.

Now as to EVE. It is like comparing apples and oranges. Eve and EQ2 are trying to be totally different things. In the final analysis I would just say this... EVE is the one of the best games ever made from a game design perspective. This is especially true if you like the idea of no end-game per sey and a huge 7500 system world almost completely created by the players.

If it were me, *I'd* pick Eve. Of course, I like all those things I mentioned, so I would.

not only comparing the two is odd... but the items you like in the two have nothing to do with each other.

are you 15 years old and you can't afford $30/month?   stop bar hopping so much, cut down on movies, don't drink as many sodas, or whatever, and save up that extra $15/month if you like both games.
