I like playing the healer, especially in PvP. With the skill based system, is healing viable in Darkfall? Looks like everyone is just DPS and maybe heal yourself after the fight? |

After all specialized healers will probably be the only ones that will be able to do massive heals (both AoE and Single Targets), but no one can answer this now because everyone is still in newbie phase trying out everything and enjoying the noob PvP that comes along with it. |

From my experience, its a waste to try to heal others in the middle of a fight. Its much easier to just take care of your own health. If there were an auto target feature, healing others would be much more viable but you have to aim that heal and not hit the enemy with it plus healing isn't very powerful and its all health over time and not instant heals. Its a nice refreshing change that the healing is toned down in this game compared to most others out there. |

All that means is that healing is harder and take more stragey. Just because something is hard doesn't mean that it isn't viable. OP: If you want to do pure healing in this game will have to do more than just click and stay out of combat. You may have to direcet teammates to fall back to get health or rush into the fray and point blank shoot your teammate with a heal spell while you try to stay alive. |

Hopefully once Aventurine finally get a grip on how they want their endgame to be, by which i mean after people have been playing for 2-3 months i think we'll start seeing more skills and special skill tree's being added. Atleast i bloody hope so since as it stands right now all the melee abilities are just copy pasted across the different weapon types. Currently playing : Aion |

Its a DPS zerg fest. Everyone is doing pretty much the same thing in combat. I've seen no healing though sometimes you hear people screaming to be ressed by the pretty fountain of red plus symbols. There is little role distinction in combat. Little formation fighting and litte strategy. Its all e peen stroking for those that failed high school. For a game ready to launch two years ago whose core mechnic is group PVP combat... isn't this a little odd ? |

False...! Darkfall was suppose to be about no pre-defined classes. So the traditional role of Healer wasn't PICKED when you made yoru character, you deveoped his skills so he becomes a powerful healer..! Aventurine has not brought this promise to light and has simply centered their efforts on melee. There are no roles within group combat, there are no Wizards or Healers, just hodge-podge of whatever armor you can wear (hopefully platemail) carry the biggest 2-hander and learn self heal, and mana missle..!
If you do not dmg other players, you are not viable in group combat! Because anyone can just spam healing pots every 45 seconds. ____________________________ |

I'm a healing type as well, and to be honest it's going to be hard in Darkfall to fill that role. There are healing skills, and they might eventually be strong, but it's so hard to heal in combat with all the movement that even if they were great it would be difficult. To be sure you hit your target you kind of have to aim at their feet so they get splash healing and try not to get the splash around the enemy. In most games a healer and a fighter is greater than 2 fighters, at least to my experience two fighters are greater in this game. I haven't even touched the skills available so I'm holding back on saying anything definite. I do think you have to start thinking in hybrid terms. Asdar |

Short answer is no. With the way Aventurine implemented the skill based system, there is no such thing as any kind of "support" features. They had an opportunity to diversify the skill based system with the Prestige classes, unfortunately that was one of the features that "got lost in translation".
IMO, all players will eventually have the same basic template builds. The only variations will be in what "school" of magic one takes. But as far as I can tell, all schools are DPS-centric. 601 |
Originally posted by Maldach you're right, suprisingly, no one chooses healer. At the beginning of beta, being a healer right away was impossible sinc you had no options, and near the end of beta, when the devs quite literally listened to everything that happened in beta forums (including the thread saying being a low lvl healer was impossible), some healing spells were patched to be more available at lower levels. Being a healer at upper levels will probably be possible as well, I'm guesstimating, since no one's really reached higher levels yet. When I'm energetic I'm: When I'm at default I'm:

There are heal spells you can get, but dont expect to be casting them with someone beating on you as they do not out heal constant dammage.
It takes a while to develop, but heal other for instance has a 3 second recast, so you can spam it on someone and at higher levels it will regenerate them fairly quickly. The level of staff and armor you wear also affects the amount the ticks heal for, and since most people only have noob staffs or are using heavier armor, the heal spells seem terrible.
Healing is not like other games where people can rush in a last for a long time. I see it moreso as being a backline effort where people who are hurt run back, get regenerated, and can get back into the fight more quickly.
The problem I think for most people is that it does take a while before you can make any type of spell casting effective. But in a a month or so I bet there will be more comptent casters.
Everyone in DF pretty much starts off as meele since that is the most effective at the start and for solo, but once you have had a while to develop skills, then you can be more specialized. I find that a lot of people can't seem to handle the fact that classes are not pre picked at the start and that you actually have to develop playstyles over a fairly long period of time. Im sure that once people get stronger spells that are easier to hit people with than mana missile, you'll see more robes running around.

As far as I know there are spells that heal pretty good (I've heard Heal Other restores 50-60 points of health - it's 1/4 of character's health pool right now and around 1/5 of 5-6 month old toon (my estimation). It could be crucial for a fight. But yes you must have a good skill in FPS shooting... |

You can specialize your character however you want! As long as it does DPS.

It's obvious there's not many people playing this game yet so many profess to know everything to be about it. After watching several of the videos (you know, the one's that show over 100 people sieging a village) it's clear that even the people playing the game haven't fully learned how to play it. I really like the idea of healing being splash damage, heal over time (HOT) and Friend or Foe (FoF), and here's why: It supports the development and utilization of tactics surronding a structured group strategy. If heals were a TAB-targeted type of process it would not be any different then any other game and do more to support the false claims of the game being a pure click-fest. What's going to happen is as people develop their characters, acquire resources and otherwise learn how to play effeciently we're going to see situations where PvP becomes an extremely structure process rather then the zerging that's currently present. I've become more interested in this game over the last few weeks. Thankfully there have been some well written posts by people knowledgable enough to provide qualitive details both supporting and opposing (albeit, many of the naysayers come across as whinny idiots) what this indie developer is attempting to put out there. In closing, if you're going to bash this game at least do it intelligently so your opinions aren't immediately cast aside. |
