"Have You Ever Danced with the Devil in the Pale Moonlight?" |
I believe MMORPG.com should change the status of this game back to in development as it has not truely released yet. My arguments: I can not purchase the game. Therefore is it truely released?
There is no official announcement anywhere about it being released on the official website.
Having less then 20k people playing sounds more like a Beta or trial then a release to me.
Only 1 server. How can a game release with such little hardware?
No customer service or support that I can find.
Prove to me without a doubt that this game is avaible to the public! I can find no method to purchase this game. I have yet to see any website or brick and mortar store selling this game. |

Vendetta Online launched in a paid beta state but they were honest about it and do not charge AAA price. Honest being the key word here. It launched a hell of a of lot smoother too. I am the Lord! |

I had a lot of hope for this one, but no houses, macroing allowed out of town or monitored, no mobs to speak of, paid beta...where you can take your character with you when/if they go live.....ya I know they say they are live but can't fool me Some still want to swear by it and that's fine, swear away, I pass. |

How can the game be "released" if it is not available to buy and play??? The one and only. |

The problem for mmorgp.com is that there is no "paid beta" classification, which is what Darkfall is. If you don't like that classification, then you may opt for "limited release private server". Lacking that, I say it should be reverted back to "in development." |

Carebear Carnage would be a cool band name. Evil will always win, because Good is dumb. |

Well aparently the most hardcore part of Darkfall is the purchase/account creation aspect. If you cant make it through those hardcore hoops, the game just isnt for you |

Why do you care if it is on the site or not? Just go follow a game you are actually interested in. I bought and played the game today, and had a pretty good time. |

Why should anyone give an Indie developer any more leeway than any other developer? It should be that you are judged on what you produce. Not on what you produce according to what you have to start with. You produce a crappy game (whether big or indie) you should get crap for it. You have a shakey launch (whether big or indie) you should get crap for it. We as consumers should expect and demand quality from both big and indie developers. |

Until the game is available for general release, and the majority of players *dont* have to jump through hoops to get their hands on a copy of the game, i personally dont view the game as "released". Even games that have a "head start" period (which could indeed be limited in number/ preorders only) then at least they acknowledge that fact and say that the official release date is X / Y / ZZZZ. This *typically* avoids the "backlash" issues that have arisen here on these forums (and indeed on other forums). Unfortuantely Adventurine haven't even done this. Hell *if* they turned round and said "Sorry, we are only going to allow pre-orders in for the forceable future whilst we get the issues sorted out" that would have also lessened the backlash. It wouldnt have been pretty, but it would have been a lot less than what they are getting. Instead they are doing a "rush to get the game" without even confirming to the people who WANT to buy it WHEN they can buy it... they say a time, and miss it... it then becomes a scramble for the order button when it goes up, meaning that their ordering system gets hammered harder than they expect. Everything that they said would be done by a certain time, has been late... Seriously.... if i were them, I wouldnt even put up or even HINT at when the game would be available for general release UNTIL I *knew* that the order form could take the punishment. Adventurin should infact over compensate when it comes to the server being hammered for orders... not let the orders out in dribs and drabs.... whilst it might ensure that their one game server doesnt collapse upon itself, it doesnt do much for the people who *want* to buy the game. To spend their *hard earned money* on the game. If they keep it up for too long, people *will* give up buying it there and then... and then when they do eventually get round to buying it, their view *could* already be jaded. Being honest, its been a clusterf*&k of reasonable proportions. The game might run nice and smooth for those who managed to get the game, BUT 1st impressions are important. And when a game makes itself this hard to get your hands on.... it had better be the best game ever, because if it doesnt match up to the expectations it rapidly becomes a contender for "fastest uninstall ever" (although apparently it already did that to itself....) I havent played the game, I not all that interested in playing the game right now, but i am interested in the game and have followed it over the past few years (i was reading the forums before i signed up for them). I *want* to see a game like this succeed. I *want* there to be more choice, i *want* more companies to take a risk in their idea's about a game. But seeing as this is basically the flagship for "independant MMO development" it *really* doesnt do a good job of "this is what you do"... its more becoming a case study of "this is what you SHOULDN'T do" |

The problem IMHO is that the MMORPG.com rules listed here are out of date Does it meet our requirements? 1. Make sure that the game isn't already on our list. We know that this sounds simple, but there are a lot fo them and sometimes they get overlooked. *A visual representation of the game 3-5 Screenshots: These screenshots must be in-engine, un-doctored screenshots. They must be representative of what a player would see when playing the game. *Website Requirements All games to be listed at MMORPG.com must have an active, professional website. The site must be completely free of pop-up ads and spyware. In the case of an active or in-beta game, the site must also provide access to some kind of user support system including, but not limited to: developer active help / support forums, direct petition system or support contact email. I would suggest that rather than change Darkfall's status it is a good case study for a review of the rules as they stand. I tried playing Real Life but the graphics sucked, the community was annoying too. |
