They only have the 1 server.
From Tasos' earlier statements it didn't sound like a second (or more) server would be coming up anytime soon. I'd expect at least a month before we see a second server.
How many can they squeeze onto the 1 server? Hard to say. Once players spread out some more then perhaps it can handle some more.
They might have avoided some of the problems on Release day if they had limited the players to just 2-3k the first day... then upped it an additional 1k each day until the server started to become unstable. Anyway... just a thought. |

Maybe i'm confused, but shouldn't a new MMO boast as mamny subs as possible? You mean they literally can't take as many people as want to subscribe? "nerf rock, paper is working as intended." - Scissors. |

First of all, the first and only large game to show online numbers was EVE Online. Actually the MMO everquest by sony used to show how many people were on per server when it was young. When it started losing players later in years it took off the player # number list. |

some are much lower....i think warhammer and AoC are....um lets see WoW probably around 5000, but if darkfall can handle 5.5k then thats pretty good lets bring that up to 10k though Handling even 10k does not mean it is pretty good.It depends what you want out of the game,if you are satisfied with a barren world, like a simple square box with a bunch of PVPr's then that is fine.A DX9 game can only handle about 500 objects in screen, this is why they made the game so barren, that way it can handle more players and effects. There is no magic performed by AV or any game,it is only numbers and this is the way they chose to make their game. Personally i cannot stand a barren world, and anything that revolves around PVP,IMO PVP needs a TON of surroundings to make it more skillful. If everyone is just standing out in the open, then LAG issues become huge ,[graphic or net lag]as far as making the game fair.If anyone has ever played a FPS ,they would know a difference of even 25 ping means alot,it does not sound like a lot but it is,for several reasons. One is because the actual lag is more than your ping,it does not include server update/calculations. The whole purpose of putting a lot of action/objects into the world ,is so the game has some content,i mean i would hope people are not playing this game a SUPPOSED MMORPG JUST to PVP?If you are in it to only PVP,then the game would be a FPS,NOTHING more and a cheap one at that. You will see ,if there is any areas with a lot of objects and a lot of players ,it will lag out bad, especially for older systems. |

I'm not sure how many of you are younger inexperienced kids or people just getting into college, but it seems many people within this thread do not understand what a business model is and how business models are used to projects revunues and operating costs. Based on those business models is how they secured loans and had planned to repay them, etc.
Early on in Darkfalls development, they made a business decision to go with a seemless world with many players, than a server technology that was based on compartmental zones, then duplicating that across different shards (playable servers).
Aventurine repeatedly have aid they were shooting for at least (minumum) 10,000 simulataneous players, which means roughly 40k players per server. <-- THAT is their business model and how they built their net-code and franchise. Their business model.plan isn't like Warhammer's, where they can just add another server at will, because each server is vastly more expensive than AoC, DAOC, EQ, etc... If they stray from their own business model too much, they will not be able to affor to pay back the loan and those investors will simply close the game down.
Aventurine obvious started seeing problem with optimising their net-code during beta when we have 2,300 people online and things weren't going too well. That was cause for alarm for Aventurine, because their own paper research indicated they would start having these probelms when they got 8k or 9k online, with alot of tweaking needed to get to 10k or 11k.
When they realized these problems, it was alarming to them and ONE of the reason they went to a "staggard release" So they could see the server stressing and work the code as need be, while controlling the "players experience" by limiting the amount of people who can play.
This game should be stable and lag free with absolutly no problems with 5k people in it, if not, Aventurine is 50% wrong on their propsed plan and THAT is another red flag we must watch out for and be concerned with. It is not a case of "They just have to add another server", because that is deffinatly out of the question..!
People need to be aware of what is actually going on and stop being ignorant. That doesn't mean we aren't pulling for Aventurine, but looking over their business practices... people should be concerned and be humble with their praise of this game. When Darkfall has 8k~9k user online for several weeks with 1 or 2 crashes per week, then it is time to relax and enjoy the game...! Until then, everything is on thin ice!

Just so you get this straight, I repeat: that 5,500 number visible in Clan and Journal pages is NOT the number of players online. It is the number of created characters a.k.a. the number of successful pre-orders. That number showed over 15,000 characters during beta and listed offline people and their alts (like many others, I had 6 chars during beta) That's 5,500 out of the 40,000 total capacity you mentioned. Probably anywhere between 1,000 and 3,000 online and I'm being generous here. AV's plan wasn't 50% wrong. So far it looks like it was 90% wrong. So far we have "Massively" Multiplayer Online game that is so "Massive by Design" that it cannot support 5,000 subs, let alone online players. |

Yes, I understand this. I was just giving the fanoi trolls and Aventurien the benifit of the doubt. We had 2,200 people in beta... and on the weekend the servers showed signes of stress. I extrpolated that out to 100% more people and thats about all Aventurine could handle. If they hit 8k simultaneous players, I would be surprised. but, to me, none of this is an issue, because where are they going to find 10k people who wants to play this retarded game?
Sure, there are ton's of pople wanting to TRY it, but after they spend their $50 bucks and get to play it and 1 month later have a choice of continueing with $15/month... how many are actually going to be siging this games praises then..?
At most Darkfall will have 20k followers, mainly little geeks who cannot vent their testosterone inside women, so they get their adrenaline rush by p0wnz'ing other and talking smack with their guild buddies ..!

First of all, the first and only large game to show online numbers was EVE Online. Secondly, the number in the Journal/Clan pages is the total amount of characters created, NOT online players. You can see all chars there whether they are online or not e.g. in beta this number was over 15,000, because alts were allowed (I had 6 chars there, for instance). Yes, most games out there support 3-5k users online. Darkfall so far has proved to have serious issues supporting less. Again, 5,500 total characters created = that many succesful pre-orders (single char per server) and maybe 2-3k people online. I'll give them that because of launch, even as much as half of playerbase may be online at the same time (normally it's closer to 20% - see EVE Online; I hope I don't have to explain what are time-zones and activities such as sleep, job, work etc.). That is absolutly incorrect. EQ for the first 5 or so years showed how many players were on each server anytime you wanted to look. They started hiding it when the numbers started drastically dropping. Otherwise totally agree with your evaluation. EDIT: Arggh I see Pale Rider beat me to it BTW as someone above said 5500 subs = approx 250K Euros. With that amount of funds the game should be bankrupt within a month. |

I have Darkfall now! |
The number 5500 is very good for a game that just a month ago was considered vaporware. And its aot more then other games have in one server. Give Aventurine some fixes and we will have something incredible here. |

5500 active accounts.
Or 5500 concurrent players? because the people claiming the first seem to have a lot more to back up their statement.
And in that case, it's pretty sad that they can't handle even that amount of -accounts- which would probably lead to about...2500 concurrent players. So...clarification please? |

they can't keep from being taken down by dos attacks, blame bad billing/account management on players "slamming the site"... they may very well not know how to hide the number of players online. could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please? |

A screenshot would be very helpful. I was preorder register id # 15000, or around there. Since a lot of pre-order people had problems actually getting in in any way, I find this lacks in substance as evidence.
So...screenshots? You're all in game now, aren't you? It shouldn#t be too hard to quell these questions. |

Still if I am number 15000, I was also one of the last people to get in before it went down, as the store literaly went offline minutes after I registered, there must be more in. Even if I did post a screenshot (which I don't have because the servers are down for a patch) you would not beleive it. you'd just say it was photoshopped. so no point in trying to convince those that have already made up there mind. |

Right...let's see: 1) I did not realize that it had anything to do with -when- you pre-ordered. According to Aventurine, there were billing problems with some and not with others. Logically speaking, that means number 1 could have been left out while number 15000 was able to get in.
2) What in my message convinced you that I would not believe you if you posted a screenshot, mh? Because I insist on wanting to know the truth instead of trusting angry fanboys who refuse to admit that their idol company screwed up the launch?
Sorry, I'll stick to proof. |

I doubt that DF is using the Gni servers. They are probably still on their home server. If this is the case then the issues are to be expected until they transfer everythin over to the Gni servers. If not then eh that sucks. I honestly think they are using the stage release to get the captital to move to the Gni server

MMOs require more reasoning and imagination than most stereotypically ''adult'' activities. |
Originally posted by Pale_Rider Thank you Pale, I was going to say that. Also, since release DAoC has never hidden the number of people logged onto their servers, even to this day. |
