I'm curious, with all the trolling, how many people actually WANT this game to fail? Not just so you can say "I told you so", but actually want it to fail, and why? The only reason I can think of is that you don't want a company to succeed that has such poor communication, ethics, and behavior. Beyond that, I would think EVERYONE would want DF to succeed simply because it could help bump the mmo genre out of it's stagnant dry spell that it's been stuck in for 4 years. Well, vote away, explain if you want to.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

Enough WOW and DPS/Tank/Healer MMOs.... I hope DF actually survives this hellish launch. Maybe in 6 months to a year I'll beg a trial off someone and check it out... The company has over promised, and under delivered. There's a chance they can recover from that in the next year, but if they don't, then this will be a niche product at best. |

No. The MMO genre needs some diversity. I can't believe there are people who want this game to fail.. |

I for one deffinetly dont want the game to fail. I have deffinetly gotten a disliking for the company behind it in the past few months though. I still hope theyre able to work everything out and turn it into a success though, because it does sound like it could be a fun game if fixed up enough. Also I would love it if more sandbox games started coming out so hopefully if they can turn it into a success it will inspire other companies to take a chance. Still I think Adventurine is either just very stupid or has some very shady practices. |

i don't, i voted no. I love sandbox games, i play EVE and played SWG for 5 years. My contempt is with the company and its front man Tasos. The game itself i wish it luck, would be even happier if a competant company took it over.

I don't want the game to fail. In fact, I was hoping for the opposite. Granted, this genre of game is not for me, but it could have paved the way for other Indy companies. With the failed launch and negativity surrounding the game now, they have an uphill battle in front of them. Hopefully in a few months to a year they will have a viable game on their hands, but the noteriaty of today may plague them for a while. |

No. I came from an online game that despite our faithfulness and pleading was still shut down, i sometimes miss those folks and i would never wish the same thing on a game players want.

The only people that would want Darkfall to fail would be those with a personal vindetta against someone who works at Aventurine or expect to make some type of profit off of the game closing. I doubt anyone here falls into either of those categories. "There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer." |

I, like many others here, don't really want it to fail. Or at least, I didn't. The fact is I was hoping that AV would back their talk up with a good game, hell, a great game. I always welcome newcomers and I know how hard it is to break into the MMO industry.
Do I want it to fail now? That's a harder question to ask. Part of me wants to see it fail just because of how annoying all of the fanboy hype is, but also because I don't really want such a company to do well. On the other hand I would fully welcome this game getting good, eventually. I think most of us can agree that currently things are a mess and that, in reality, everything for the rest of this games life really depends on these next few weeks. I honestly don't think people will give it past the free month (well 33 days) if it hasn't proven its self by then. And while I do wish that all game developers could have all the time in the world to complete their visions in the real world that doesn't happen. And, in the real world, players will not put up with crap for long. So really my answer to the question is a mix of both. However I do think that we have several promissing MMORPGs coming out here in 2009 that seem to be aiming for a sandbox feel (such as Earthrise). |

Of course not. I want to suceed in being a niche game. From my limited expereince its more orientated towards clan/guild. |

Do I want it to fail? No, Tasos can go screw himself but I wish riches upon those poor developers/artists that worked tirelessly for a joke of a company for so long, they deserve it. I want them to be honest with their player base for once though.
Tasos and the upper management are the Rapid Reality of Greece... sadly I feel this will reflect, and bury the people that actually made the game, the nameless faces of those whom will never get credit in the shadow of some of the biggest liars in the industry. |

Free market system baby, reward success and punish failure. The game will live or die based on whether they do a good job.

What he said, except I've never played EVE and barely played SWG. For me, it has never been about the game itself, but rather the company behind it. I'd like to see a game like Darkfall succeed. There is plenty of room in the MMO genre for a viable FFA PvP game with full loot, even if it's not my scene personally. I've said repeatedly that more variety for gamers is a good thing. However, AV has never inspired any confidence that they're the company to bring that game to life, and this miserable failure of a "launch" only reinforces that. The concept behind Darkfall is sound, and I'd like to see it do well. It's just a damn shame that concept got paired with such a shoddy, unprofessional company. Hopefully, one of the other upcoming games like Mortal Online will have better luck. |

No. A game like Darkfall is what the genre needs. A game like Darkfall is what a lot of players need as well. The genre needs more than the same tired game systems we currently have shoveled into the MMO space. Games that appeal to a select few and not just the masses. The genre needs games that will give players of all types some form of immersion, be it the PvPers or the PvEers or those who enjoy both equally. Sandbox games are pretty rare due to almost everyone following the same recipe over and over. A game like Darkfall needs to succeed even if it isnt a smashing hit, just so companies will take notice and try something different for a change. What the genre doesnt need is a company like Aventurine, a company that suffers from ostrich syndrome that constantly burries its head in the sand so all the bad things are as if they never happened. A company that allows someone like Tasos to make grand claims and then never admit they were wrong. We have enough of those types of companies in the gaming industry as it is. Companies like Aventurine do nothing but ruin the genre as well as the gaming industry by hiding behind smoke and mirrors. Closing their forums so that no one, not even their paying customer, can seek help with a sour launch and claiming it was due to server stress is just pure BS. The reason this was done is so they wouldnt have to play clean up with all the negative posts. Sure, the dev team started out with the intent to make a good niche game for the people who enjoy it. The mistake they made was joining with Aventurine and Tasos. Tasos is someone who needs to be kept on a short leash coupled with a shock collar. He is the same as Gaute Goddagar and Brad McQuaid, always dodging the questions and spewing the same rhetoric. Maybe if Aventurine is smart they will give him the Gaute Goddagar treatment and kick him to the curb. But sadly most times when a game goes south they blame the dev team as a whole. And I am willing to bet that everytime Tasos opens his mouth about the game the rest of the dev team dies a little inside and does a collective facepalm. |

I agree with Nadril. You bring up some good points here. Consumers speak with their money. But I'm tellin ya a game that can only support 10K people at a time CANNOT survive a mas exodus like War or AOC did after the first 1-2 months. After 9 years of hype and blatant lies, The game better work great, and require minimal fixing soon. This guy Tasos is the Jedi Master of Smedley, and with the long history HE has, (game not even being released yet) I am not confident that he will not run it into the ground. So it is kind of a difficult question because after the crap in the box year of 2008, and now this, as consumers of an industry most of us care about, shows that this is acceptable. Bad business and putting out crap is the path to claim success. (Not necessarily saying Darkfall is crap here) This next 2-3 month period will make or break them. It is kind of a vicious circle though, people want THE GAME to succeed, but do not like the company, and its practices to date. If it fails, the the people say that we will not accept crap, the next company to put out crap will suffer the same fate. This also in addition to 2008 if it fails, will make it difficult for the next bunch who do have their act together with an outstanding idea, will be hard pressed to find anyone to back them. Really a good question and something to think abou though. |

Don't care. What's one more clone going to do to the current crappy MMORPG market at present. |
