Anywho... I got in today and tried it out. From most to least boring.

Grafx - They are not as bad as people said, and at times they're wow, nice one, nothing like AoC (other than DFO has moving trees and moving shadows) but the grafx aren't making this game. Some character models look good, some a bit dated, whatever, I could care less. But just letting you know.

The animations are a bit awkward at first but you get used to them. Also in the very beginning the game seems to go really slow, you run slow, you sprint slow, but as your skills in these increase you pick up speed and the game starts moving along quite nicely.

GUI / user / player control of the char, etc... this is super strange at first, but you get used to it after a few hours and it turns into second nature after a while. At first I was mostly WTF? now, its all good.

Monster AI is like NOTHING I have ever seen in a MMO, they run around you, they kite you, they will gang up on you more than not, they are better opponents than most of the players I encountered. Everyone was hacking and slashing wildly, no strategy, nothing. Basically, if you have a brain use it in DF, its ALL about strategy. Oh yeah and if any of you remember UO and getting killed by a rat or a deer, be prepared to repeat the experience. - also the monsters talk to you i.e. "why wont you stop killing all us goblins" :)

World side - is HUMONGOUS - in the time I played I barely got from one goblin camp to another, I died a few times, got killed a few times as a gray and killed a few grays, loot was lost each time, the bank is your friend, and use it after you get anything of value.

Also, gold / items, etc... its not all that easy to acquire. Things are expensive, and I dont see people getting to the top of the ladder in a week or two, even with macroing. This game is LONG TERM.

Next... guilds. After a few hours, there were about 15 guilds started in the game, and one founded a city - lords of death - but they were all in beta and have that advantage. And yes, as of now, there is only ONE server EU and they plan to have 10.000 players at any given time on. The server is as stable as anything I've ever seen in a MMO launch - incredible even.

and finally the goodies. Pee Vee Pee - wowza! Strategy, skills, tactics, magic, melee, archery, it all comes into play. this is a no holds barred hard core pvp game. you have to think, you have to outwit your opponent in skill brawn and brains. This is what AoC claimed to be... I cant wait to get deeper into the game and expore it more see what more it has to offer.

So here's my overall impression.
First minutes - WTF?
First hours - Wow this is getting better
First day - can't wait for more. but don't expect rewards like in WOW or AOC - this is no b.s. you earn by being better, not by helping Cornbum Frostwilly kill a vagabond and bring him his manhood back.

P.S. there's going to be people for the picking, and I also think this game isnt for everyone, it's the closes thing to UO ive seen thus far, and it's totally open, and free. But for what it is, it's amazingly good, i think they're going to have my dinero for a long time.

Casually enjoying EVE. Kinda wanna try Earthrise, but waiting until a free trial, & post-testing first hand awaiting SWTOR

That sounds like so much fun. The grind isn't really that bad either - hell, my Perma-Queueing skill just hit 50.

there are alot of skill but not 500.

you cant steal or snoop people backpack

you cant tame any animals except mounts

you can stealth but not in the way of being invisable,

in daylight you cant just stealth up towards some one you need to use the cover and use crouch ( crouch makes you make less noise)

in the dark you can sneak on up people very easy when its dark its really dark (sounds can still give you away so crouching here helps)

can you amcro skills YES

will people macro skills Yes

BUT

if you play the game in YOUR style, you char will skill up the Skill you use.

you wont have high mm is you never use it. and not skilling up on skills you dont use makes you gain the skills you use easier to gain, because of the softcap that there is on skills.

there are lot of thinks that they need to improve but the foundation is there.

if they now can fix the suync issue's (no there are no Hacks)

this game got potential.

My experience hasn't been quite so positive.

I got on first thing and made a human up.  Looks very nice although not as much 'character' as AoC (but that only has humans so...) and much better than WoW.

Ran around very briefly and set up th UO a little before I had to leave for work.

When I got home got straight onto DFO and queued for about half an hour.  Got in, ran around town a bit more and found the quest giver.  I went to the first goblin camp which had a few people there but nothing crowded.

The major problem here was synchronisation issues, and this was being heavily discussed in chat.  Basically, mobs and players aren't where they appear to be.  Lots of mobs and players running or frozen on the spot.  Mobs hacking away at thin air and spurts of blood appeaing in mid air etc.

Despite all this I did manage to find one goblin I could kill, although 2 people ran up and looted it before I'd worked out how to do it myself.  I was mostly more worried then about going rogue as I was getting random hits on people even though I couldn't see anyone remotely near me...   In the end going rogue didn't seem to matter as it runs off very quickly for one hit (<60s?) and no one seemed interested in hitting me, even if they were n sync!

I did run over to the other goblin camp but they seemed much better organised and tougher, so I thought better of it.  Even this far was pretty deserted though.  Ran around some more countryside for a while and then *bam* the client crashed.   Since then the client has crashed every time I try to enter the game, so I guess that's it for the night.

I do hope the game game works out.  But I think it's wrong to give the impression that it's all rosy.  Not everyone is havng a gerat time yet, even when they have managed to log in.

At this point the game is nearly completly out of sync...its rather annoying too. The game though has TONS of potential. I enjoy the vastness of the land, i ran for about 30 min and barely made it anywhere. They werent joking when they said it will take 8 hours in real time to make it across Agon. Beginner quests are another story, EVERYONE is trying to do the same quests and its all rather frustrating (reminds me of the WoW expansion) i hope they fix alot of these problems in the patch they are releasing tonight....

The game is fun. But at this point it can get rather frustrating...tons of out of sync players/npc's....oh and the detail of the world is AMAZING

The GUI/user/player controls is the sinlge reason why I wont play this game.

It's that bad. Plain horrible.

IMHO.
