Hi All,

I have seen a number of people post that you can do all sorts of things in DF. Im specifically interested in how one would scam in DF. I have seen references by a number of posters whom assert they were in beta and you can be X Y or a scammer.

So lets proceed, im very curious regarding the mechanics available to effect said skullduggery on someone. I asked this a number of times here by the way in response to comments in a number of threads and no one has replied to detail the scope of the potential in DF as it relates to scamming. So please dont assert you can be a thief, a solo killer or a scammer unless it is in fact possible, time reveals all, why wear the dunce cap later. If you dont know, dont open the pie hole .

So lets be off again! Can you bag trade like in AO for example, this is pretty much the only scam I was taken on. And for most of my savings early on...for a aircar. Ironically I met another new player a few days later that was farming a instance mission for just that...aircars, and he gave me one free. Just goes to show you how life works. lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!

I think you got it wrong.  If you preordered then you were already scammed....

but honestly, with an open sandbox "game" im sure you can do all sorts of scams. 

Depends if AV allows scams in game.

CCP allows it in eve, if you fell for it dont go crying to the devs  for your money. Scamming is a job in eve. infact there has been many major scams that has destroyed the complete economy of a corp. these have even been notated by ccp itself as breaking news ingame.

That quite sparks my curiosity in darkfall, wow the devs actually allow scamming as a char profession ingame since it is a sandbox game?

DF Scamming 101:

1. Take almost a decade to scrape together a half-assed game, and solicit pre-orders from suckers... er, fans.
2. ???
3. Profit!

Yes yes if its allowed etc thats cool beans but im interested SPECIFICALLY in the MECHANICS of doing so. seriously, even I, a flickering candle...can see the potential of how a trade for example can be exploited based on the process to effect a scam, hell I was the test dummy. People whom have played MMO's a bit can see potential in this and identify it.

Frankly for lack of response im going to assume the only scamming you can in fact do in this game, is talk some poor smuck into the woods because you want to show him your something "special" lolzzzzz! and loot him of his noob gear. You cannot in fact do anything in this game but pvp...and macro craft. I conclude this based on a absolute black hole regarding the FLEX of the character potential.

Mind you this isnt a condemnation of the game, simple a ah...and no I dont agree with people PPing you non stop, im again simply curious of the potential scope of doing something other then. Oh and on that note, this isnt EVE. How would you escape the consequences of say scamming a peep from another guild of your race, where would you hide?

I think the stuff the OP is talking about is like in old school UO..

I remember well the spellbooks in UO.  There was no way to know by clicking on it how many of the potential 64 spells were actually in the spellbook for a long time. Tons of people would sell a virtually worthless empty spell book that cost like 15 gold at any npc as a full spell book for like 5k gold or something crazy.  The trade window did not allow a buyer to actually look at the pages of the book, so it was all based on faith and trust, and many victims were taken for a lot of gold.  EA finally fixed this buy allowing anyone to click on the book and it would say "0 spells", "19 spells", or "64 spells" or however many were actually in it.

Bump, still waiting to hear from the few peeps who said you can be a soldier, sailor, candlestickmaker or thief in DF! You know who you are, ill call  you out soon if you dont reply  so how can you be a thief or scammer in DF. Your cred is getting pissed on by my cat atm.

I remember hearing about some goons who talked to a bunch of people in the beta about these high-level crafted items they wanted to sell in their town. The bank, as you've seen, is just a safe on a raised pedestal near the center of town. All around it, goons crouched in hiding by the various other buildings.

As soon as the mark appeared, the "trader" initiated contact. Once it was confirmed that the mark had gold on him- those who lay in wait would rise up and gank him, putting their ill-gotten goods into the bank.

All "scamming" will be some form of this, most likely. Anyone who told you could do a job in this game was a liar. All a "job" consists of is doing something while pretending that it's your job, I suppose.

I dont have any examples are what specificlly you can do, but scaming IS allowed.  Just like in Eve, if you're dumb enough to fall for it then you shouldn't own that thing.

There is NO, I repeat NONE, pick pocketing or theifing skills at all.

We all know that the only "sandbox" aspect of this game is the FFAPVP. Even that isn't done particularly well.

Scamming is fairly easy on the small scale.  Just trick someone into having a lot of money and kill them before they can bank it.  Large scale scams would work much the same way they do in real life.  Trick someone into giving you money for something fictional, or sneak your way into a position of trust.

I wonder if we can go through peoples back packs and steal stuff from them. Then you can set up explosive chests and theives go kaboom. I was a master pickpocketer in UO for a month before changing.

From what I understand, you can have vendors in guild towns. So I guess if you wanted to scam basicly wait till someone buys your goods loot him and put his and your goods back on the vendor and you have his money.
 

Of corse thats a scumbag thing to do, but really if you aren't clever enough to figure out your own scams, who do you expect to pull off any scam?

Err has nothing to do with clever. I am referring specifically to assertions by a number of people who I classify as FAN GIRLz...of DF who have asserted that you can do all of this. Any moron...can figure out if you bash someone over the head and force them to EXPIRE you just might be able to take thier goodies.
 

IF this is in fact SCAMMING lmmfao ... (cough) in (cough) DF, if this IS in fact the extent of the potential, then the thread serves no purpose, because in fact you cannot SCAM anyone by the classic sense of the word.

Scamming, or conning someone isnt bashing them over the head, killing and looting them. There IS NO SCAM, hell thats got to be the most trivial comment yet. Scamming people is a art in its own right, but can only be effected if there are methods to effect this, I have repeatedly asked SPECIFICALLY for the mechanics to do so, and all im getting is circle speak.

So to conclude, you CANNOT PLAY a scammer or thief in DF. The game dosnt have the capacity or functionality to effect this.

Scamming is not an art and you are just a scumbag...And yes offering goods for sale and getting the goods back to re-sell after having sold them through whatever method of assholery is a scam. And the Idea that you can't play a scammer if this is true gives the game a working feature.
