You realize this?  There is litterally NOTHING new about DarkFall.

No kidding genius, but when has a fantasy MMO with those aspects been out on the market and succeeded?

Yeah, a long friggin' time, and EvE doesn't count as it's gameplay is COMPLETELY different.

None of them succeeded, Niche games dont succeed.  Tried and true.

Niche games do succeed, we just haven't had a decent one out in a long time.

So, by your logic, we should all make pathetic WoW clones? Because the "Majority" of MMO gamers can handle them?

Psshh.....

If you want to make money as a business?  Yep.

Too bad Tasos himself has stated they want a niche community they can nurture and grow with. That has been the message given since the beginning.

Eve is alive and kicking, and it is a niche game with FFA PVP and full loot(and skill based if by "skill based" you mean classless instead of twitch action). If only people would learn from what CCP did right.

do you live under a bridge perhaps or you must be smoking some pretty good chronic cos you are talking shit.  Eve has been around for 5 + years, has recently broken the 50 000 users at once online.  Eve is a niche game and its been going strong and constantly evolving, so either ccp lied to me or you are full of shit and need to re think your statements? what will it be?

His point wasn't about paying for it, it was about not trying to make it fail. 90% of the trolls on this particular forum spew nonsense, hoping that the game does indeed fail. Then, when this is pointed out, they say, "No, I WANT it to succeed", when their post history completely contradicts that.

Thats exactly right.  The more trash talked about the game by people that have not even tried it the less chance it has of people actualy trying it. Just because you dont agree with the concept or the way the lease   of the game is being handled Does not mean you should feel the need to trash it or the dev team. But i think thats part of our societies problem as a whole.

I guess what im trying to say here is i would much rather people say oh i hate the concept of this game and the devs have mucked iup the launch but it would be nice to see it suceed reguardless.

Either you're calling EvE a mainstream game, or implying the 250,000 (maybe it was 350,000+?) current subscriptions aren't profitable.

Now on-topic, I hope Darkfall succeeds, because most of the MMORPGs released recently have "cookie cutter garbage" written all over them to me. But I'm still not sold yet. Waiting to see how the game performs during the first 6 months.

Yeah, this site is full of fail. I'm just in it now to entertain the trolls. Once DF launches you won't be seeing me on here anymore.

Fanboisim does Much more dmg than Trolls and by far.

There is 1 game that has been trolled the longest and has seen more trolls than about all the other mmorpgs out there combined. Yep WOW. This game is trolled to death in many fourms even their official forums.

Did the massive trolling cause WoW to fail.  Guess it didnt.

Fanboisim does much more hurt than what many people think. I remember in Vanguard how some fanbois claimed their game was bug free and ready. xtremely fluid ect.

Now imagine if No one decided to troll vanguard, imagine no one decided to critizise it either. Just fanboys claiming how perfect the game is.. These guys refuse to even test the game or point out bugs ect. to them its picture perfect. Now they get tons of people hyped to play and when they 1st log on the game and see vanguard in the current state it was when it launched there would have been even a bigger exodous than when it came out.

Mcquaid, maker of everquest bit more than he can chew and blew it.  yet we MMORPG players allowed it to happen this mostly due to fanboys. A troll is easy to detect . simply saying a game is going to blow balls will not convince people to not play a game. Fanboys on the contrary can make the game sound like the 2nd comming of christ and get people to play the game.

AV and Tasos have alot of nice ideas. I myself plan to try this game in a few months. But the truth is they Bit more than what they could chew also. Being a small team and doing their own distribution pay ect. they should have started small. Small as in prob a smaller world which they could add more in the future. Or even features. They could have took some and throw them on a expantion. If they would have done so they would have shown a better product  they would spend more making it more polished and solid. Im not saying that darkfall is in a bad state, but it does show some features would have been better to be implemented after than half way. Also they would have spent less in production time and having money to adress the issues they are facing. they would have even attracted a larger croud.

Indie company or full blow publisher, it doesnt matter.  we need to see more high quality games made not great ideas that at the end become half baked and need to charge people to try it out in that state to then keep cooking it.

This is the reason why games like vanguard, Tabula rasa and AOC came out. we allowed it by allowing fanboys take the best of us. we allowed them to represent us.

This is why darkfall is seeing so many negative posts and even troll posts. Many people have been fooled to much for their money and it sucks to see more games out there not completely prepared.  If you couldnt add somthing you promise , you scratch it out and add it later. but do it way early in development not late like mythic did by taking out some cities and classes close to release.

Will more ideas of sandbox games come out.

Hell yeah they will. We got a perfect example of one. its called GTA. they do succeed. we just need a company who knows their shit about quality to produce a sandboxgame with quality in it.

Watching Fanbois drop their soap in a prison full of desperate men.

Fine I will bow out on Eve, it is pretty niche.  Not a huge success, but a success never the less.

Neither makes sense.

I'm with Harabeck on this.  The reason we get MMO releases like AoC, Dark and Light, Vanguard, and Hellgate is at least in part due to fanbois who will clamor to support it, and try to shout anyone down with the audacity to be critical (not hate, just be critical) even when such criticism is justified.

I don't think anyone should emulate the way AV has kept its customers in the dark, and did such an unprofessional job of launching this game.  In the grand scheme of things, they should recieve scorn instead of praise for the poor job they've done, so that other game companys both large and small know that it won't be tolerated anymore.

In short, I'm more of an advocate for the consumer than I am for a company, and I don't think this type of performance should be reinforced or praised by the MMO community.

In order to get more and better games, I don't think the end justifies the means.  We'll only get better games if we as a community demand quality.  We don't need to provide incentive for more garbage or lousy service.

/ agreed at 100%

I'd be happy to help AV but imo they , and their fanbase, treat the other players and CUSTOMERS like GARBAGE. So I won't Help this crappy project and won't cry if the game disappears.

I payed 29euros yesterday for an indie project called Mount and Blade and I'm happy to help and support this nice but small team.

TCOS is a small project managed by a small TM. This game had a terrible launch, because of IP blocked, but the TM and the community are really NICE. I'd be happy to support the game in few months. This a professionnal project. unfinished imo (needs time) but really interesting, and you'll find a customer service etc. It's NOT a crappy game. You can connect to the game 24H/a day, connect to forums 24H a day , contact GM etc you 'll have an ANSWER.

I can't give my money to a Cy who never cares about the customers. I CAN NOT.

I have respect for fans, like Harmonica: He want's to play the game, but never treat the others like trash or garbage. But I saw only few like him, the others are incredible fanatics,  agressive and IMO lost all common sense for a STUPID GAME . I live and work with nice people, gaming is a hobby not a nightmare. I 'm happy not living and working IRL with such lost souls. DFO is going to have the worst community, no doubt.

They are not playing but acting  (dreaming) like new White Knights in a New and Gaming Crusade against (I think) the Empire of Money and Dollars. For these people, AV is a kind of New Robin Hood but they are simply WRONG. AV is a cy who wants to make a lot of money, without the competence of CCP or Blizzard. They are NOT humanists or philosophs. They want to make money no more no less.  In facts, there is NO difference between a DFO and a Wow. 2 games sold by 2 cies. First, unprofessional project, 2nd, professionnal game. Prices are the same, and they are not Bibles but only video games. if you pay Blizzard or Turbine, you'll be sure to play and play a polished game with customer service, with AV you can pay for nothing more than a basical (PREHISTORIC ?) gameplay (PK PK PK the newb and FL ) more than 2 H a day because 22H/day the server is DOWN.

As I'm a PVPer, i can't play Wow. It's not for me. In theory, DFO is the perfect game for people like me. Old school gamer, I don't like PVE, I like the PVP, i like sandbox game. But I CAN NOT pay for DFO because it' not a serious project. And because I don't want more and more DnL/VG/DFO each year.

In other words:

IT'S ENOUGH

I just want to throw this out there, Vanguard is probably the best PvE MMO on the market now. Doesn't help this PvP DF community any but I think Vanguard has turned itself around after a long, long time. :)

And yet it is the site that DarkFall and Aventurine turns to when their own site couldn't get a message up to their customers.

Hmm.... what does that say?

If what you say is true then why did Tasos even publicly thank mmorpg.com?

Plus having the entire EvE universe on the industry's largest supercomputer is something to note.  But enough about EvE.

I like the ideas behind Darkfall.  I know they aren't completely original, but this was supposed to be a next-gen mmorpg with sandbox style gameplay; not your typical cookie-cutter game.

Also, I think trolls are as much to blame for bad games as fanboys.  Trolls make the community, and devs, take constructive criticism less seriously.  Don't get me wrong, fanboys and their neverending praise don't help, but they aren't the sole detractors.
