What other genre of MMO would you like to see other than Sci-fi and Fantasy? I'm wondering if we'll be stuck with these two genre's for the life of MMO's? They do have the most flexability in world creation/character creation. However, I think the MMO concept hasn't really been exploited to its fullest. I'm surprised we haven't seen a MMO SIM type game (not the actual SIMs game) or a crime/mob game, politcal/strategic game or even a combination thereof. I know that some of these wont appeal to developers because the wouldn't be cash cows--however for the sake of variety what else would you all like to see outside of sci-fi/fantasy?

i'd love to see a MMO-Civilization game ... where you take a great empire and either coexist or try to conquer the other civs(hell even a sci-fi version of it would be cool). theres trickles of it but ... MMO sports games ... basketball, football, soccer, baseball, rugby heck even auto racing. I know some sports games with online have started this so hopefully within a year or two more games will come out with them. waiting for MMO Madden football personally LOL.
MMO survival horror - pure hardcore thrust into a world of the undead as one of the only surviving humans. have to find shelter, food and other supplies all while AVOIDING (no this wouldn't be a rambo game you would be running and hiding a hell of a lot) from zombies. only game where permadeath would make sense, would give the sense of realism instead of "oh i got bit by a zombie ... ill revive" ... you get killed by a zombie your character IS a zombie.
just to name a few. |

As suggested above and a idea i know a lot of people are very supportive of the idea is survival horror. Could be done with vampires or something like that but my personal favourite would be a zombie resi evil type MMO i would play that without any hesitation. I also think as suggested in the OP that a crime MMO would be a good idea, possibly set in the GTA universe or something like that where you can create gangs and take over territory etc could be pretty fun, or a scarface MMO where you can re enact the final scene :P ![]() |

Something like Requiem, but more scariness to it. I want to be as scared as I was when I played Resident Evil 1 all alone in my room without the lights on in the middle of the night...omg I swear I almost had a heart attack every 2 minutes
Horror has been done, but something that hasn't been done that I would really really really really really love to see is a Battletech MMO. I would buy a lifetime subscription if they offered it hehe. |

MMORPG Character Monuments ...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest... |
I agree that fantasy has flooded the mmo market. I would like to see more true Kung-Fu/martial arts MMOs out there. I think that superheros are also looking like the big Niche for MMOs in 2009 |

I think a neolithic era might be interesting for an MMO. Maybe with a bit of fantasy thrown in. |

I would actually like to see online co-op rail shooter style mmorpg, Where all the battles and zones are done on rails a survival horror mix of rail shooter like House of the dead, I mean they would have to make a lot of areas and let the areas be done in easy medium and hard difficulty but I can see it working. It would probably need to be a free 2 play with cash shop game though. |

Sci fi may be under represented in comparison with fantasy but i would still say undoubtedly that it is the 2nd biggest MMO genre out there. ![]() |

A MMO thats around time when neanderthals and homosapiens where still roaming the world. With mammut sabertigers and that kind of animals strugle in a world with nature kind of survial mmo in prehestoric world. |

Well a kind of tenchu mmo but all in realtime not turnbased. And in open big world with authentic ancient china. But in world that looks as realistic like AoC but not with instance just a open world Or maybe a world like in last samurai in that time period. |

Agree! That's the kind of game I would love to play. I'm older but I remember a TV show called" Land of the Lost" and that's the kind of game I would LOVE to see get developed. Dinosaurs and tree houses and flaming torches!!! Prehistoric weapons and Tyranosaures Rex's.....oh my!!!!! Could be a VERY heart pounding experience:) And OMG- what if flying taradactel (sp) could pick you up with their claws and fly away with you!!! |

I am thinking they would be very niche, but something based on TSR's old Boot Hill would be nice. I'd love to see a Civ style empire building MMO as well.

Martial Arts/Fighting mmo. Pvp to level up or different levelled ninjas you can fight. |

I like Suvroc' s idea Neolithic would be fun ... weapons would suck but I still think it would be a great theme for an mmo Nomax5 |

I'm pretty fond of the idea of sports-based MMOs. Each club would act as something of a guild, with the owner and players of their choice coaching and having control of the finances, while players would play and manage their player's growth individually. It would effectively combine single-player building and customization akin to a normal MMORPG, with the team management of browser games like hattrick. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |

Madness has no purpose or reason but it may have a goal ~ Spock, The Alternative Factor |
An MMO thats about conspiracies, secret Mage guild/ Magus, Call of Cthulu, a present game where you have to choose between the mystical alliance's that runs the world.. |

i agree, there is room in the Sci-Fi market, while other Scifi games have been less than steller, i enjoyed the space part of SWG, with flying around. I Tried eve, but its not combat bassed, and the combat that was there was slow and unweildy. i want a game like X3, but MMO instead of Single palyer |

It would be good if someone developed the idea behind wwII online but maybe bring the simulation level down to slightly above battlefield 1942 and add persistant character. They could make it so the players could level / up the characters through kills or objective captures and unlock skills that allowed you to use different weapons and vehicles. Maybe they could make skill trees so you need to progress various levels helicopters to get to pilot the really good ones for instance. So basically a war based mmo to answer the question. |
