In order to finance the initial development of Eve Online; CCP developed and published a board game called Hættuspil ("Danger Game").[3][4] In April 2000 the company raised $2.6 million, through a closed offering organized by Kaupthing Bank, from private investors in Iceland, including the Icelandic Telco Siminn. Approximately half of the initial 21 staff were drawn from the Icelandic dotcom company OZ Communications. [edit]Eve Online
As you can see these guys were'nt pros to begin with either.
Secondly your pulling this Df - Roma Victor crap out of your arse. For starters Df's server cluster supports 10k concurrent users, not 100.
You are also talking about Df's one character per server policiy as a bad thing - if you had any idea what you were talking about you'd realise that this is in for quite a few important reasons: -Prevent alignment exploits. -Prevent spying / guild infiltration with no consequences (as in if you pull a heist, expect and deal with everyone knowing who you are afterwards, no hiding behind an alt). -Forces player interaction - yep, only the hardcore of hardcore will be able to max out evey skill and keep it maxed, so you'll have to find a buddy to craft that extra thing you can't, or who has a specialist combat skill you don't.
Then I suppose you could also argue why you would even need an alt in a skill based game since if your willing to put the time in, you can obtain every skill - won't be easy tho!
The only thing you have got right is that they are a small dev team, inexperienced, and don't have a massive budget, give em time and they could flourish into the likes of CCP or heck even Blizzard if they are extremely fuxing lucky, but leave off on the incorrect and outright dumb comparisons with bloody Roma Victor.

Wouldn't that imply that they bought or gonna buy the game as soon as it is available for purchase? I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time. |

Nice post. Rare to get a genuine fan's view rather than a vapid fanbois. I am certainly not a console kid (though of course have played the 'classics') but despite really really liking what DF stood for and what there mandate was I feel they have come up short.........so far at least. It is just kind of a shopping list of features. Some are on back order some things have been substituded and some are just plain out of stock. Thats not the issue.... a basket of ingriedients is not a meal let alone a gourmet meal. It takes more than a bunch of good ideas to make a good game. It takes real flair to take any ideas and design a game from them. Gameplay in DF can be fun but all those skills don't dovetail into a really well designed game experience. They have made some pretty naive mistakes too....I'd say at any time over half the players online are afk macroing, probabbly more.
I dunno it just dosent have charm, a soul if you like. If you are happy to macro to get you skills...city...xxxx (fill in any blank you like for xxx) and then play a few hours as if the world is a big arena ....well great. It's just for there to be consequences things have to matter. To have meaningful choices doing things differently has to have differentg outcomes. I suppose 'shall I macro gathering or LM' is a choice of sorts.
Sad really = however Fallen Earth & Earthrise both potentially might offer that really beautifully designed and crafted game. |

And not all of those people actually bought the preorder, I bet. So they only have like ~14k preorders at most (= 1 server, if they really can fit 10k people on it). |

Why does US players prevent EU players in any way ? Cuz they dont, no idea what u are reffering to here. And evening EU has just started, still hours left, so we have no idea how this launch is gonna go. Stop trolling nonsense.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know 380K people tried to pre-order? |

Tasos = on a warm island right now with a million bucks of dumb kids pre-order money. About the worst part of today is that these punks who pre-ordered get to slip away in relative anonymity in real life, their epic failure unknown except to those of us on the internet. They should have to get a tattoo or brand on their forehead that says "DARKFAIL". |
