Really,  Aion never crashed on release and they have had way more ppl and servers on the first day. But then again they had an OB and stressed tested there servers.

Neither did City Of Heroes, and believe it or not Age of Conan servers didn't crash, the client did..

LoTRo was another MMO with little to no problems on launch day.  Again... large and fairly long OB to fully test the servers though.

Seems like large and fairly long, TRUE OPEN Beta's are the way to go to have a decent shot at a smooth launch.

To be honest I don't think open beta has that much to do with it, I think having a finished game is the most important aspect.  When people rush their games out half finished whether or not they have had an open  beta they experience problems.  I think the importance of open beta testing is greatly over rated, in my opinion people like to insists it's so important as if companies believe this they get free games to play.  I might be wrong.  Obviously some form of pre release testing is required though.

This game is nowhere near ready to launch and if they do try to launch it, it will fail just like "Dark n Light" did. Not to mention that the devs and their moderators are complete morons like SOE and refused to listen to tester input so be prepared for half-*** crap at it's finest.

Hope everything works out for the fans. For the sake of the MMO community I want more sucsessful games, though this one due to it's history does seem to be bit of a darkhorse. Best of playing!

Heck. Who knows for sure.

You can still download the client if your inclined to though.

I downloaded so I could take a look at just what is in the intitial client install.

Nothing to interesting. But as far as what is created upon logging in, I dunno.

Right now, I'm just trying to figure out just how much of it, and what parts, are written in Java.

I guess I was looking at it more from the standpoint of giving a good stress-test to the servers.  The best way to do that with MMOs is with an OPEN Beta.

The goal of a stress test is to fill the server to capacity and make it crash... more or less.

That is something that according to those in Beta for DarkFall didn't happen.  At least not to the advertised 10k+ concurrent players capacity.  It may indeed have been filled to capacity... but that the capacity is something less than 10k.

Basically, I was just pointing out that other MMOs have indeed figured out how to have a smooth launch.  Yes, they are the exception still... but they have been done.

No, there's nothing to sell out of, as all they are selling is digital copies, which are only limited by how many cd-keys they are willing to give out. They arent sold out, they just aren't giving out cd keys.

Also to the OP, I'm pretty sure AV can set its own hours, maybe they want to sleep and spend time with their families so they can be online during US peak time, instead of working during the day and being groggy and tired when the "server" is full.

To me no. Why would you want to launch a game at the end of the working day? When all games go live there are problems, things need to be patched up and held together until they can fix them right? So why launch in the evening when everyone who works is at home or going to bed or asleep? If the server was in the U.S.A it'd make sense due to timezones, any emergency and you can get help to fix the problem in the morning or afternoon. However Aventurine alledge they're launching in the evening!

So let's say for the sake of argument they do launch, the server crashes and everything goes down the pan and they need to get help? Yeah it's just team Tasos and their own resourcefullness! Well even the most  ardent Fallbois has to feel nervous at that thought right?

My personal belief is it won't launch and this is another smoke and mirrors act so that when it doesn't go live. Or something goes live then crashes three nanoseconds later and never comes back up, most of the European fallbois are too tired to head down to Athens with pitchforks and flaming torches to start another riot. You'll be told there were technical problems so servers won't be going up for a while and you'll have to wait until an unspecified date until you can play, but we did launch DF YAY!

That was my best case scenario, I'd be suprised if any server went live. However Aventurine is the company that likes to suprise us this year! Also I'd like to ask the fallbois about when the open beta was and can I play before I pay?

Most of us are patched up with account and raring to go. Please understand that this is not a full release.

Aventurine have stated they will scale upto full release introducing new "World Instances"

The game is totally stable / playable and has more features in than people realise. Accessing and using the game servers and the patching has been heavily tested and is very smooth.

Hope this helps , please note that in reality you could treat this as a paid open beta. But in reality the game is more playable and fun in it's current state than most mainstream MMOs out there today. Hence such a clamour for the pre-orders as people know it is good.

That's all on opinion. If you like running around in circles, bunny hopping into mis-placed landscape and waving around your e-peen. This game is for you.

Got to love Isane's way of posting his opinion as fact.

Isane, that desparate to pay for an open beta? Since when should anyone pay for beta half-done crap? never. AV should of used a bit of common sense and #1 listen to their testers input and #2 goneinto open beta and not launch but too late now if they take the servers live and try to make people pay for their half-baked gronala pie.

Yes I have played it and anyone can see gameplay footage on youtube. Other than all the bugs it has, the robot movement of the characters is sad to say the least. Horizons played better than DF. It's frustrating because the game has alot of potential and it's too bad it's being run by idiots at AV.

So looks like I got it right again.

Can anyone confirm as to wether they're playing DFO right now? Or are all the servers down and rabid fallbois screaming "it launched itz not vapourware LOL!!!!! Trolls !!!!!!!".
