Sorry, but the MMO market was better when it was smaller. Bigger market doesn't mean better market, you know? Who cares that we have 16 million mmo players more than we had before when we hear shit like "DAoC is a WoW clone" once in a while?

Yeah, I often hear about how "the good old days" were, mostly referring to pre-WoW. The funny part is that almost no one who claims this, is still playing "the good old games", even though almost every one of them are still up and running.

That would be because (at least in my case) the "good old games" are no longer the same "good old games" as they were before WoW. And yes, alot of that can be put at the feet of WoW also. Just like the new games that have to try to be just like WoW to get a piece of that 10 Million pie the older games have become more WoW like to get a piece of that pie.

Besides that, even the best game in the world is going to get a little old after you have played it for 5 plus years.

I will be one of the first to say that i hate WoW for what its popularity has done to the MMO genre, but it really isnt WoWs fault. I agree with Gombi to a lesser scale that original WoW was a pretty good game. Sure it was easy as hell and it breed stupid gameplay but it was fun and i actually liked the graphics for the most part. But its popularity made every other dev out there (almost) unimaginative and lazy.

You cant recreate the popularity of WoW, WoW was the MMO perfect storm. It is easy to get into and not difficult to master, it plays on nearly anything, it brought in a huge existing fanbase and it appealed to the asian market.

We only hear complaints about WoW because...

1. The same 500 people and constantly new created alts find this a common gathering place to moan.*

2. They even think it has an influence on the numbers that would like to play a game - ANY game.(new or old)

*This site has never more than 200/250 people logged on at any time.

My local football club has MORE people logged in on the world wide web...

----

So I was always surprised to see the discrepancy between these forums opinions and the forums you see "in game". For those games at least that HAVE official forums.

Wow haters come here on a daily basis, but their complaints are hardly the ones you see on the official Wow forums. Take the famous downtime of 2 days after patch 3.08.

Dramatic moaning in the Wow forums.

Here the Wow haters didn't even notice, except to pick it up DAYS later.. the moment these things were already long fixed.

----

The same with the so called "inbalance burst damage in PvP since WotLK". Patch 3.08 and 3.09 made the burst damage far less an issue (and the new resilience items of course) already for weeks now. And Arena teams are using every healer they can.

But exactly these very old (and already fixed) remarks show up in a newly created thread WEEKS after.

---

One last POSITIVE example.

Any of you seen plenty of new threads about the content patch 3.1...?

Dual specced classes, a suprisingly new build world event that will effect all servers and a 14 men new Raid content for more elite Guilds.

Nope,

the same few logged in just complain about things that aren't even in the game anymore for 2 years.

nothing new WOW is getting up in age and the community is just getting sick of WOW being the standard linear approach to mmo's. It may work for wow to be linear but for many other games like the OLD SWG PRE-cu it didnt pay to go linear.

Almost every MMO that existed pre-WoW has been altered to be more like WoW in an attempt to tap into that mainstream cash.

If these games were still the same and had developed in a manner true to their original design ideas I'm sure you'd hear a lot less complaints from the people that simply do not want WoW.

"The good old games" aren't the same games they were pre-WoW.

There's your answer.

I think the bottom line is, people who actually like the game will not be seen in a place such as this defending it.

The following words is directed towards those who keep bashing wow:

Blizzard or any other game company for that matter is in no way obligated to fill your every gaming need

they are selling an entertainment product that you may choose to or not to buy. If you do not like their product; shut the hell up and avoid purchase.

Damn you people are annoying. Bitching about people bitching about a game AND MAKING UP THE CRAZIEST STORIES! Ex: "There are 500 of the same people that log on every day and bash WoW."

I hope me posting that shows you how stupid it looks. Im gonna give you a little hint people dont flame WoW anymore, maybe every now and then but not constantly, so dont act like they do its annoying. But no all the flamers have moved to DFO.

Redhands - That's simply not true at all.

I don't know a better way to explain this, your simply lying or dilusional, I see WoW flaming on every game forum everyday all the time.

Take my word for it, do not trust me!
