Yeah seriously..

You dont see console games needing a fucking savior. Why is it nessessairy that your mmo or the next mmo has to have all teh subscribers.

This mentality is the reason why devolopers only stick to safe games and dont try to make games to fit specfic genres, they just all rehash what worked in the past, then you get morons complaining about WoW clones. Well obviously we are going to get a bunch of wow clones, its the most successful.

All i want is a  game that fits me, i dont need a saviour i just need something worth while. F2p games or p2p games there doesnt have to be a saviour.

Anyway in my opinion, i believe KOTOR will be my next mmo ill try to play.

Just for perspective, some could consider a savior to be a game that breaks away from the mold of diku-mud based mmos (eq/wow/etc) and revitalizes the genre with something completely new, or at least new enough to makes things fresh again.

As far as I can tell, the original poster was talking about games and concepts and not what game would gather the largest population.  All the talk about huge populations is just something people seem to be assuming.

Well for me, and i cannot speak for any one else in this thread, since a good mmorpg is very subjective, i can say the new SW:TOR game is one of my "saviors" in this market. Being a huge star wars fan (more original trilogy than the new ones, but i love the star wars universe), i cannot wait for this upcoming game, if it does the following:

- has a decent crafting system

- space combat

-great story line

- freedom for exploration and not confined to limited areas

- downtime activities (sabaac games, "fishing" type activities)

- player housing/cities

- character customization (clothing, features, etc)

- meaningful pvp/rvr

- great immersion

if it has these, it will be my "savior" for avatar based, and star wars based mmorpg....otherwise...well...i am still very happy with eve :)

The next big MMO is going to be one that doesn't attract current MMO fanatics.  It will draw some in but also reach entirely new audiences that aren't currently being well served.  Maybe it's Hello Kitty, maybe it's World of Darkness Online.

I'm hoping it's WoDO.  If CCP can figure out how to mitigate the nastiness, or perception of nastiness, of a pure PvP world while keeping the sense of excitement of it and flesh out the ambient and storytelling aspects of the game (controlled by players as well as developers) then we'll have something that we've never seen before.  Frankly, it's the only way to go with the IP.  There needs to be room for player cabals and competition but something far more subtle than pirates and vast fleets as we've seen in Eve Online.  Given WoD's roots as a player storyteller, collaborative, RP experience it would benefit from player operated storyteller tools as well (akin to SWG's but more accessible and easier to use, and better integrated with the larger flow of the game).

You'd see a swell of creative community leaders, folks more than capable of creating content for themselves and others, come out of the woodwork along with the usual mini-Napoleans and cutthroats who make life "interesting" in Eve Online.

That would be a game that could change some of the assumptions about MMOs.  Of course my speculation is just that but if they pull it off we'd see a new page turning.

Always notice what you notice.

I think Aion will be good, but no "savior". Bioware's star wars game or the morrowind mmo will probably be big hits.

I agree.

The Next MMORPG Blizzard makes will not be WoW 2.0, they are making something unlike WoW so that not to compete with themselves.

Good chance it will be more PvP orientated.
