Hey guys i was just wondering if i can get your opinions on how lotro is doing now. i havent played it since before the xpack came out and i was wondering how stable the client is, if the pop. is stable or if ppl left after they finished the xpack, if there are any new bugs from the xpack, etc. i'm really bored with both wow and warhammer and darkfall is losing my interest so i just wanted to see what some of you think about the game in its condition today. thx in advance for your posts.

- population is very stable. A little more populated than pre-MoM so its always a good time to jump in.

- there are a couple bugs from the xpack, but they are fixing a good amount of stuff in the as of yet unscheduled Book 7.

Speaking only from the point of view of Europe, English-Eldar:

At the release of the free-trial there was quite an influx of new players. But after the free trial week was over, it seems like things are quieting down a little. However, this server's population is pretty good anyway. There are people to fellow with at prime time anywhere I've gone. It does seem to slow down a bit during the early hours of the morning, which is a nice time to do those solo quests and harvest those resources for crafting

Back in EvE. Started with BatMUD. Main MMOs have been EvE and DAoC.

I play on the big E and I have noticed a large influx of players to the game, everything is bussling. The content is good although some things are buggy. At the moment there are a fair number of exploits in the instances but they are all getting fixed with bk 7.

There is a lot more to do with the new expansion too which is good and they are also bringing out a boat load of new content with the book 7 update.
Over all I'm very pleased with the X-pac as I feel it has enhanced the game rather than destroy them *cough*TBC*cough*

I will still search and fight the good fight until I find the game to own all games.

Well I just joined the game, but after trying it in the past twice, and feeling like it was too much like WoW but not as flashy, and not enough like Vanguard...this time I just took the game for what it is.  And I love it.  I'm on Vilya and I'm having a great time with an awesome kin...the best I've ever been in actually.  There's always people running around doing things, and never too too hard to find a group.  From what I hear, Vilya is not a big server either.  So that says to me if I ever really did get lonely, I could just transfer.  So I would say, come on back.

Currently Playing: Aion
Trying Out:
Retired: The Chronicles of Spellborn, EvE, LotRo, WoW, VG, AoC, CoX, RO
Waiting on: Blade & Soul, Black Prophecy, Global Agenda, The Agency, SW:ToR, T.E.R.A.
Working On: The 5th Dimension (coming soon)

Hello, Fa+e. I, too, am a Vanguard player and have had one false start on LoTRo a few months back during a week-long trial period. As a fellow Telonian, would you be so kind as to provide a brief comparison/contrast between Vanguard and LoTRo if not terribly inconvenient?

To my taste, the two areas where Vanguard truly shines are world size/exploration and class design. I enjoy slowly progressing interesting classes through a rich and epic world full of adventure and intrigue - with other like-minded folk. That pretty much sums it up for me and I believe Vanguard excels in both those areas. I am not looking to run away from Vanguard necessarily, but I have always kept a watchful eye on LoTRo (being a long time Tolkien fan).

Any information you or anyone else reading this can provide as comparison to Vanguard would be most appreciated.

Hiya Lonestryder,

I can perhaps give some insight since I've been in both games too. It's as Fa+e says, LotRO doesn't have as big of a game world as VG and the class development is quite different. However, I do like how the classes are set up in LotRO even despite these differences. In LotRO you have more chance to customise your character than in VG not just in looks through the appearance selection, but also in managing your traits. There is a huge set of possibilities! Each class plays so radically differently which means that making alts is just as fun in LotRO as in VG.

Combat is slower and more tactical in LotRO. You can't cast and walk at the same time like VG which makes the battles seem less responsive. You have to get your timing in LotRO. It takes some getting used to. There also seems to be less emphasis on cc which is a bit disappointing to me since I love cc classes (I played a Druid in VG and loved rooting and snaring everything in sight).

Though LotRO's world is smaller in size, it is less empty overall and each area is extremely well-designed. It has a lot of random little things harking back to the books. There are a heck of a lot more animal mobs in LotRO but they're based on the lore of the books. When I played VG parts of Kojan were not finished. I don't know if this is still the case. I liked the variability in feel of each continent in VG. LotRO is somewhat the same though some of the areas overlap a little into each other. For example, the border between Bree-land and the Shire feels cross-between like a Man area and a Hobbit area.

I find LotRO less easy to get around as a new player and newb. The horses are costly so a lot is just running around everywhere on foot. In VG the portal system was very good for going whereever you wanted to go and I liked how you could easily afford a horse.

There are minigames in LotRO but they are of a different nature than VG. Then there is PvM...

APRAurore, thank you kindly for your well written comparison. You touched on the key points that are important to me.
