Ouch, I should have not used such similar terms but let me clear up:
Nothing in the MMO world [except a similar scheme] will ever be as epically comprised of fail like Vantard, it was a early retirement program and a ponzy scheme and a snake oil sale all rolled into one. SOE bought a shell of a game, little more than enough of a shell to use for funding presentations. So nothing will ever touch it. Anyone willing to pay into it by playing it is either a blind EQ1 old school idiot sheep, or someone who hates gamers, gaming, and MMO's... because any support of that game promotes ripping off of the average gamer. DFO fail will be for far different reasons: MMO's are just too big of a project for small indy companies, without some crafy financial backing maneuvers, the game doesn't have the gameplay>gfx justification for looking like total shit, and the mechanics are inherently flawed and will be macrod till the cows come home... much like UO was by all the "hardXcore"s, if not worse.

Originally posted by Vyeth First off NO. The biggest feature in my eyes is that it ISN'T Level based for once. Now it can still be skill based and work properly if the game was intelligent enough to calculate skill gain based on a true hit versus just swinging away. Though I don't see that happening this late (hahaha) in the game. Was looking forward to it but its appealing less and less to me knowing what type of playing is going to this. |

Heh the two most common phrases heard from beta testers: "I ran" and "I ganked" (Even though ganked usually means more than one player was involved in the kill)........ |

I would say another worry I have from watching live streams and videos of the game is that all they seem to be doing is running, running, running, oh maybe a little little fighting, then run run run. Either they are running away from someone else, they are running after someone else or they are running to some other place in the world. Ok, sometimes they ride horses too and actually that raft thing looked nice apart from everyone falling into the water all the time. But just moving around seem to be the main feature of the game if you judge by what is shown in videos/streams. |

For over 10 years, ganked was used to describe a group of players killing a lone player. But in this game, "gank" is a finishing move? I know that they are from Norway/Greece/whatever but if they have played UO like they claim they did, they should know the difference.

Err.. seriously, are those screenshots from Arena (Elder Scrolls 1)?? Or Hexen? Sheesh, I mean, honestly, even if the gameplay was uber, and granted its nice that the OP enjoys exploring... but these screenshots look like 1989 or so. *shudders*

Good to see some people on these forums that know what they're talking about! Gank is a shortened version of 'gang-kill'. I'm suprised Aventurine use the word in the same way newbie-MMORPG'ers use it, especially considering the devs are so oldschool in their views on MMORPG's. |

The videos I saw that had mounts in them were pretty poor....Teh rider looked like he was having sex with the horse instead of riding it.......Also the running thing is bothersome also......All we heard about this game was how only the toughest of the tough should play this blah blah blah, then all I see is players running like school girls all the time.......If you guys are that afraid of dying then youre playing the wrong game......Also if its a "I dont want to lose my stuff" fear then lose the gear and fight naked.....That will deter some players from killing you in the first place if you have nothing on for them to take........ |

In some cases, like mining, you have a risk of someone finding you and killing you and you lose what is in your backpack. Fortunately it's fairly easy to do a 'circular' macro where you run back to the bank every so often. The other fortunate part is that you can macro most gathering skills within protected zones, so you can't even be ganked. A lot of the other skills are very easy to macro.. absurdly easy. To the point where you dont' have to even run a macro program, all you need to do is put something heavy on one of your keys. The 'target' in this story probably could care less. He went to sleep with a low skill, and woke up and his skill was much higher. Expect to see 'naked' people everywhere. |

If what you say is true then darkfall = epic fail and my faith in this game is greatly diminished although I was never a huge fan, I may have tried it but not now. |

Pics or it didn't happen. The draw distance in this game laughable. Here is what we had in 2007.
And now it comes with DX10 shadowing and post processes.
Darkfall looks like it runs on DX5. With a distance fog of "In your face".

yet it takes you 30 seconds to travel through that, and you can't climb the edges. so have fun with your themepark box.

The fact that this new game is being compared to a game that was released three years ago (and for me it looks worse) is enough for me not to play it. I once said, "I don't care about grapics I just want a good game". Well after building my monster that no longer falls true, I want graphics, good content, solid gameplay, stable servers, PvP, raiding and as a paying customer I should have them all.

I love fanboy logic. If something in the game is awesome, list it everywhere as a feature and brag on the forums. If something turns out to be crap, say it doesn't matter and call them trolls.
So hilarious. They were bragging about the graphics, then when real beta vids come out and look like 1995 they now think "Graphics don't matter anyway." ------------------------- |

I believe he was macroing, and I was not able to loot him as he got back to his corspe too fast, and there seemed to be a bug or something which prevented me from opening his loot bag even 10 seconds after I clicked use. These graphics are on max settings, I have a nvidia 8800gt, dual core processor at 3.00gHz, a 1680x1050 monitor, they were pasted on to Paint, which most probably degraded the quality.

O.o
So, this was max settings, as for paint, being a Graphic designer, no, Paint would retain the exact pixel values for everything, its a lossless app from the days of BMP's. |
