I know what you mean. It's the fatalities and digital boobies that attract the immature kids and AoC has TONS of them. Maybe you can try to change server? Some servers are worse than others, although I have yet to find a server where the community is as mature as I've seen in some other MMO's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTihsJQHt48 |

You make a mistake by believing this is The AoC community. Many people post on the forums here with the exact purpose of having people feel just like you do now. What you see here is hardly relevant for the AoC community at all. Some are here to share relevant information about the game. Some are here to recruit more players and will tell just anything to get people in the game, and others (the ones you talk about) are here to trash talk the game no matter what. They do this for many reasons: They felt let down by FC at launch since the game did not live up to their expectations, or they see AoC as a treat to their game of choice and see this as a war between games for subscribers, or they are just vile pure haters with an agenda. When it comes to "The real AoC community" you find them playing the game, not here. From what you say in your post that is what I hear from a lot of people that has had their first experience of the game on a general FFA PVP server. This is the server type that by being what it is attracts such behaviour. If you try some other servers, I bet you will be surprised to see that communities varies A LOT between servers. And lastly, but not least, when you put 100-200 thousand people together you are bound to have some very vocal morons there, thats just how it is. In time you will see that the immense amount of noise you hear is from a very minor, very vocal minority. QFT man...QFT for sure. (PS: Rather be playing than posting, but thanks to work, I just have to wait until 3pm...BUGGER!) |

I want to believe this, but I just hope the in-game server community of my new server, Cimmeria proves it. I refuse to resort to playing on a type of server I don't want to play on (PVE) just because the knuckleheads and 12 y/os fill up the PVP servers. I'm hoping Cimmeria is a good inbetween. |

Luckily the type you're trying to avoid has done us a favor and compiled most of their numbers on the Tyranny Server. Avoid that server at all costs if you don't want to be bombarded by stupid. |

Classic DIKU level based, lots of content, fun quest lines, easy to learn in but hard to master end game that requires you always be chasing a carrot on a stick. LoTRO and EQII require more of a machine, and combat is a level or two up in difficulty from WoWs. WoW only requires a real strategy in the end game from what I saw of it. WAr, damnifIknow why it succeeding as well as it did. I could not stand it myself and uninstalled 2 hours into the open beta. Best thing I can say about is if I were offered a choice between gouging out my eyes wiith a spoon, playiong WoW or playing WAR I would probably pick playing WAR. Still it looks like it has leveled out and is holding steady in population since December. |

Yet look at EvE which rates higher on Xfire and has been noted to have more players than the above games...and this is one graphics hog. It had DX10 before LOTRO. How does THAT explain this theory? 2) tried and true gameplay. Classic DIKU level based, lots of content, fun quest lines, easy to learn in but hard to master end game that requires you always be chasing a carrot on a stick. Again, we have EvE which throws all of your assumptions out. No DIKU, large learning curve, yet ranking high on Xfire and has more scrips as time goes by. WAr, damnifIknow why it succeeding as well as it did. I could not stand it myself and uninstalled 2 hours into the open beta. According to your Alexa methodology though, it is actually failing compared to AoC, but who am I to speculate. I still think you wanted to single out graphics in this discussion, and it requires more than graphics. I know I do. But, if anything, graphics is a good selling point. If we look at the Xfire list, a ton of games ranking higher require some pretty strong machines and graphically are gorgeous (CoD4, CoD:WoW, Left 4 Dead) . And if graphics were not an important selling point, whyi is every Dev trying to make their games look better each time they release a sequel or new game. I am sorry, but the fact is, many different viewpoints will be considered in a purchasing decision...and yes, graphics may be one...but it is not the sole one (for example, I just went back and played Resident Evil 4 and Fable 1, and they sure are not lookers..) Now, how about back on topic. Patch 1.04! |

By the way I don't think I have ever said graphics were not a selling point but obviously they are not somethjing that contriburtes to long term retention, otherwise AoC would still have 800K to a million subs. back to the topic, 1.04 added some good things obviously but it was buggy and I think it is too little too late. As I have said many times before here too bad they released when they did and had the game director they had. By summer the game will be where it should have been at release. |

Well in fairness, AoC could have had a comparable player base and they blew it. I didn't realize that having a lower player base made a game harder to fix. One would think it would be easier. It's OK though. I'll just have to keep looking for a PVP game that tops WOW's PVP experience, which is sad. |
Originally posted by Souldrainer Now, name me any other MMO that has even an inkling of a playerbase like WoW. AoC is not comparable, because NO OTHER MMO is either. WoW is the standard, and just sucks as a comparison. All MMO's will continue to feed off the crumbs of WoW, but none will ever match or even come close. NO GAME has that playerbase, and I doubt any ever will. This is pointless really. Thanks to the last few days getting the patch stable and hotfixes here and there, we do not know yet just how empty PvP mini games are, so right now you are making an assumption based on server outages. Come back, try over the weekend and see how things roll for you, then if it is dead, then come complain...k? I will have no issue with that. Cheers |

#2. Explain how Minigames are "broken" ? I did a half dozen mini games last night and everything was perfect and a lot of fun.

#1 HOW?
#2 Where? On Set, I was in queue for 3 hours last night and not one person even showed up. |

#1. I was off work yesterday and got a rare opportunity to play AoC for a while. I registered over 400 unique kills yesterday on players in the Thunder River, Minigames, and Border Kingdom areas. None of them were under level 75. The border kingdom was 4x as populated as my WoW server in Wintergrasp at peak hour. Tyranny or Cimmeria for US servers imho. #2. Set is a PvE Server. I recommend joining a PvP server if you want to PvP. However that being said it looks like most of Set Server's PvP isn't in mini games on that server. It's in the Cimmeria border kingdoms. Go check it out as they commented about some "epic" battles. #3. You can get free Xfers to another server if PvP is your primary focus.

#1 PVP is just for characters above 75? *sigh* Sorry, I don't like the PVE in this game enough to get there. #2 I went to Set FROM Cimmeria. In my old age, I am growing to hate open PVP and shift more towards controlled PVP. I love battlegrounds, the concept of arenas, and small battles. I dislike the concept that someone who leveled quicker than me in PVE has the upper hand in certain situations. #3 I transfered off of Cimmeria because I like certain types of PVP but not others.

They fixed the issue right away, you can't test server load on testlive. This was an amazing patch, I dont see how some disconnects is shooting themselves in the foot. The fact that people use custom UI's is not there problems, it's yours. ------------------------------ PC STATS: |
