I have been using this site to check sum new mmorpgs for about as long as I can remeber and
today I just noticed something

"Non-Existent" games gets the highest hype rating!

Whats the big idea? its not even in beta!

its like saying "HEY! have ya tried that restaurant nearby? the food is delicious and its really cheap!"

although the restaurant hasn't even been built, and they might even cancel it...

but you get the point right?

"buy our new super-duper product, it has been around for 3 years, and you get to be the first one to test it!"

don't judge online games because of their looks.
try the game, THEN RATE IT!

The only difference between a Troll and a Fanboi is which side of the fence they stand on.

That's why it's called "Hype Meter" instead of "Rating"

Makes perfect sense to me.  Lots of games show potential value, and fail to deliver... but you're rating them based on potential, not on actual value.

Ouch!

kinda embarrasing, but still.
its silly just to think "oh this game will be awesome!"

2 weeks after their release they are suddenly on 6- Rating/ Hype List,

guess it wasn't such a good game after all.

pft, you can't trust that hype meter.
sure it might be correct sometimes, but allot of those games are still gonna end up a bit higher on the low Rating/Hype list after their release.

The top voted games are seperated between games that are released and games that are still in developement. Games that are in development have a hype meter which is how excited someone is on a upcomming game with a score from 1-10 while games that released are sorted by user reviews.

Once a game is released it does no have a hype rating anymore, as far as I know, so that is why you are seeing games not released yet with the highest hype rating.

It's normal to praise games that are still 2+ years in development start hating when they are 30days from release xD

LOL that makes sense,

so the hype meter only shows how excited people are before its release and

when the game is up and running the Rating/Hype tells you
"well... it wasn't excactly what I thought it would be..."
and then they go back to whatever they were doing or waiting "EXCITEDLY" for a new MMORPG

all the mmorpgs are the same, its the pointing and clicking, maybe some enchanting, pvp, and guilds,
but otherwise its all the same thing, and because of it people call this a "WoW-clone"

I doubt darkfall will be of any success, but hey its not released yet!

awell lets sit here and wait "EXCITEDLY" for darkfalls release

(err no offense btw)

If you're basing this soley on Darkfall you're going to have a skewed opinion.  People waiting for Darkfall are fanatics.

And not the good kind of fanatics either, they're more like religious fanatics who come to your door and try to convince you that the end is near and there's a savoir who will protect you if you do as they command.

The problem is most games have these people... just the over-zealous Darkfall ones are a bit overbearing right now.  So were the DnL guys at the end of 2005.  It's completely comon before a release to get this sort of insanity...

FGS i know only a few game that are huge and rated nice and out  ,wow, silkroad online the rest its just hopefull wish, silkroad and wow are popular cause graphic are fair and work even on netbook .

i hate to say this but the next big game will have to work on netbook(ex aspire one ,atom )people arent willing to shell out 2k or 3 k for a computer just because of games ,my aspire one does everything my other big computer does and more from out of the box

aspire one cost 330us plus tax  (80 gig)at walmart,it plays wow, pw  ,guildwars etc ,why do you think game like LOTR OR OTHER ressource hog arent as popular not because they re boring it take a too big computer to run them.you  ll see if aion or any  next gen game dont work fairly on netbook they wont be aqs popular as wow or silkroad online.the game maker dont understand this trend but check around you everyone is buying or plan on buying a netbook ,but check the req for a game like age of conan or other and you ll understand why free game are popular they re not design for netbook yet and arent even supported  but they work .guild wars was design at start with laptop in mind if aion or any other game who want to be the next wow succes story they  ll have to start with netbook! no netbook =no succes its that simple

not only darkfall, but darkfall is a great example, if the release is what I think its gonna be.

Myth War 2 had a fairly high hype rating, and it didn't work out

Age of Armor had a high Hype but that game is dead now, I even got a beta key from it

Tabula rasa had Very High Hype rating, and look at it now, they are cancelling it in a few days (or well its hype rating atm is pretty high since it became free)

so no.... this thread isn't only about Darkfall, but I think that its hype rating will decrease ALLOT! after its release.

Well haven't we all learned by now that the mmo genre feeds off hype ? They have to have something to hype to keep the mmo genrea alive while the disappointments keep piling up.

I think the main reason that hype seems to be so much higher than ratings on average, is that hype is awarded by people who are following the game, and already have hope for it. The average person who might take a small interest, if any, probably won't bother to register their hype or look at the information on it, chances are they won't even try it unless they happen to be bored of their current games when it's released, or a friend drags them into it.

That's my take anyway.

Yea, hype is all about the up and coming, not the here and now.

Example: I see a lot of hype on various teams for the upcoming football season, but the ranks only go to teams during the season.

A lot of people that frequent here are desperate for a new mmo to release and they are just dog tired of what is already available.

hit the nail on the head

people think the game is going to be better and often it fails to deliver

 this answer makes sense

but I still want to argue the hype system,
its only what people think of that game, we don't need a meter that shows what the fanboys thinks of the new upcoming games cuz it will always have the highest Hype/Rating

as stated above, its probably only the people who care about the game that votes, atleast the majority,

Which upcoming game are you most intrested in

Darkfall
Aion
Earthrise
Huxley
Hello Kitty Online (obviously)
SUN Online
Pristontale 2
The Agency
I'm not intrested in any upcoming game atm /A.K.A I won't vote but I just did
