Well your options are pretty lame in that poll. Look, 300,000 people is not a bad number at all. Its over double aoc's numbers and better than SWG ever got to. Look around, I think on massively there is a link to an interview with Bill Roper from Cryptic Studios. As far as western mmo's are concerned there is one, count it, one behemoth and that is WoW. If you take WoW completely out of the picture I do not think there is another western mmo with the numbers that WAR is claiming. EA might have thought about numbers like wows, or at least hoped for em. Even the folks at mythic knew they weren't going to get the millions and millions of people into the game that Blizzard had gotten, and they never once claimed they were going to be a wow killer. Until another game comes out, and 6 months after release they are able to hold over 1 million subs (in the west we all know asia has insane numbers and wow when compared to some of their games is really really small heh) then suits will start expecting millions of subs. Finally, maybe you haven't been around the genre very long? Once a game is released and the initial rush of bugfixes have hit live EVERY company does some layoffs. Even Blizzard did this. It is just the way software development is handled. |

It's amazing how obvious it is who has really played WHO seriously and who is just here spouting off. War will survive and probably benefit from a resurgence. I'm having more and more fun with each update and there aren't exactly *any* MMO's that compete with it on an even scale for oRVR/PvP. Do people really think that misquoting statistics and pretending to understand the MMO industry adds any value whatsoever to this conversation? |

Well, if you took WoW completely out of the picture I do believe that there would be alot of people looking for any other mmo outthere...
And yes, I haven't been around the genre for very long. WoW was my very first mmo. Today I have played both LOTRO and EvE and I enjoyed them both! Despite their numbers were far from WoWs.
However, I don't think that 300k or perhaps even below that number can be considered as a success for Warhammer. I think that back in September the numbers they were hoping for today would be atleast closer to 1mill, no need to look for any WoW numbers but atleast way way over 500k! |

I think what Warhammer shows (from its huge pre-release following and strong initial subscription numbers) is that there is a large market of players who want something fresh, new and different to play. But what Warhammer also shows is that the standard for quality has been raised by previous games to a level that - if it is not met - players will quit and return to games that do meet that standard. I played WAR for a few weeks and my take-away was, hmm, it doesn't outright suck but I'm not getting anything here that I'm not already getting elsewhere, and the quality in many areas is much less. So I went back to what I was doing. Looks like a few other folks did the same. Whether it will continue is all about how much money they sunk into development, and how much it would take to develop and maintain the game versus the much lower than expected continuing subscriptions. I don't have those numbers so I couldn't say. Sure, games with lower numbers of subscribers have held on, but I expect Warhammer's cost of production was much higher than some of those games mentioned. |

well i havnt really heard of anyone who has come back and all i here is people saying people are leaving no one is going back blah blah blah.
In Short this is how i played WAR and why i quit. I quit because the game was unplayable with my top end rig for w/e reason. So what did i do? i got wrath of the lich king, had some fun with it, then got to raiding, cleared naxx way to fast and maly took just a night to finnaly killed..................so............ i quit because why? because everything was done, I hate PVP in that games because well its simply crap and arena is the unbalanced POs ever created and PVE i never plowed through so easily.
So i decided to come back to WAR, came back last week and has been having a blast with a few friends coming back as well. I would definetly say it has its few issues, but its getting there and others have said 1.2 is going into the right direction and slowly getting there.
Yes the Choppa and slayer "should" have been in the start, but they wernt so w/e stop using them as a comparison many other games claimed to do things and never did way way later. They are comming in the game rather then saying they would be coming back and only take 2 expansion for them to come in(hero classes anyone?) But im not here to bash WoW(well i kinda am but w/e) point is, the game isnt dieing, this game has been the biggest spawn of doom sayers since beta and its still alive, yeah it might be going down in number, but i think people are underestimating choppas and slayers and people cruising through Content on WoW coming back. Im back to WAR and im here to stay and i want to chop things.

The forums are filled with negativity and various personal agendas, take everything you see here with strict criticism, because nothing can outwiegh actual gameplay experience.

I doubt that anyone here has some " personal agenda " that involves the demise of Warhammer. Of course everything you see here is criticism. It is the same criticism that you get with movie reviews. I believe that what you take as negativity with the goal of futhering a personal agenda is actually a very base emotion instead, and that emotion is disappointment. Personally I had high hopes for games such as Age of Conan and Warhammer. When I figured out AoC was a sham of a game my last hope for a PvPcentric game was Warhammer. In my opinion, Warhammer is utter garbage. You personally, may not like my opinion. You may then declare that my opinions are based to further some personal agenda, thereby futhering your own personal agenda, of whatever that may be. Shrug...

I'd have to concur with much of what you said. I know some people who have come back after depleting the content in WoW, and somewhat getting tired of "more of the same" in the game. That's not a bash at WoW, but more to the point that playing the same game for multiple years is just going to get really repetitive eventually, no matter how good the game. By the way, have you played either the Choppa or Slayer on the PTS yet? I've been playing the Choppa a bit, and it is a really fun class to play, in my opinion - the rage mechanic seems fun, and should be fun to get good at using. That, and there are a few other additions/changes to the game I like in the 1.2 patch. Also, it should be interesting to see how the Land of the Dead content starts flowing in as well in a few months. |
