As usual on release of a new MMO the game is hyped above and beyond and I have read a good deal about Darkfall. The game has supposedly good rule sets with lots of potential for sandboxing. I like this as long as sandbox does not mean there is absolutely no story to the game as in everything will rely on the characters playing it. I like a good plot in my games. Have any of the Beta testers some comments on the Darkfall game plot?

We all know how Darkfall graphics look. Fans out there to be honest, it does not look that good. The characters in particular. That Wolf face we see over and over again, looks seriously crude. I think I can count the number of polygons in his face to 9. This is not up to the standard of today's MMO graphics. It would be good to hear betatesters comments on this. I am curious if DF can compensate poor graphics with gameplay. I remember I had a turnbased PC game called UFO more than a decade ago. It had crap graphics but was very fun to play. The plot was excellent, the ruleset was excellent as well as the character progression system was very fun.

There is no plot, I wouldn't expect there to be one in a game like this.

Maybe a 2 page mini story in the game manual but that's it. 

Im not in Beta so i cant really answer but i am going to comment.

Character graphics are really not that hard to upgrade so i would say the answer is yes, if gameplay is good enough i think the graphics will be acceptable until they are upgraded. Word graphics are actually not bad at all in my opinion.

Now, is the gameplay that good?

The only plot really is with the factions. Alfars want to kill everyone, Orcs and Mahirims hate everyone but each other, and Humans, Dwarves and Mirdains defend themselves against Orc's mahirim and Alfars.

Theres a bit of lore you can read on the DFO main site. But for now atleast there really isn't much of a plot or story actaully in game. This may change, this may not. It's a sandbox so I wouldn't expect it to change if you ask me. The adventures and plots are player made and driven in a sandbox. There's no ultimate goal except for those you set for yourself.

I think it can compensate.  I mean, people still play UO and EQ1 for crying out loud.  I think that if Darkfall's style of gameplay strikes one's fun nerve, the graphics will be secondary.  Its not like they are bad from the screenshots I've seen - they are not just not top-notch like other MMOs like AoC and Lotro. 

If AoC has taught us anything, its that graphics, while important, are not the most important factor in an individual's gauge of they will get into an MMO or not, generally speaking.

I'm sure there are some people out there that graphics are the #1 thing - and that's fine.  But its my personal opinion is that if the gameplay strike a fun nerve in ya, whatever graphics it has will be sufficient.

Hmmm... Reading what you write makes me very skeptic. If there is one thing I hate, then it is hey lets all get jolly together and kill eachother for a while. There should be something to fight over. There have to be a story or a plot. Otherwise I would think that 9 polygon face would ruin the whole thing. Gameplay must be very very good..... I hope.

Those who tend to dwell on gfx, also tend to know little else. And as such, wonder why they cannot find a "Good Game" to play o_0

This game is putting all its money on Gameplay. With Great Gameplay they hope to get money to upgrade graphics

Graphics may get people in the door, but it's the gameplay that makes them stay.

After playing couple weeks i must say that the grafics are quite good, you cant compare it to AOC but its as good or better than any other mmo released. There are areas that doesent look good, for example Alfar area but its meant to look like barren land, All the other areas does look alot better. Animations and sound is abit poor but in general this game ok when it comes to grafics and sound.

Grafics 7/10 (wich i put above wow 5/10 and below AOC 9/10)

Sound 6/10 (I bet we will see some improvements over time)

Combat 9/10 (The combat is very complex even tho some claim it to be clickfest it's just because they are bad at it, endgame pvp will be alot diffrent than todays naked ganking)

Gameplay 10/10 (It's you that decide what you wane do not anyone else, PVE, PVP, Explore, craft or jump up and down like a fool... It's gaming ala sandbox)

Game stability 10/10 (No crashes, no lag during 2 weeks of beta)

  Bad graphics you say ? It is not single player game or even multiplayer with little map and max 60 people online. People, go learn some IT.

Do you want to judge graphics do it by ourselves. Watch in high quality.

Its a sandbox game, the plot is made by us....Look at this You dont get that kind of plot or story from devs, its created by players. Sandbox games create that kind of story constantly, and its what drives most of us sandbox players to continue to play.

As for the faces... I can only recall one face of one toon after 12 years of MMO'ing, and that was my eve toon. I rarely get that close to someone, and if I am, its usually trying to stab you, shoot you, or cut you. Could the graphics be better? Oh yeah... but they arent as bad as people make them out.

Id say darkfall models are about 2004 quality, but some folks here have said they are worse than that. Go take a look at Asheron's Call screenshots, Shadowbane, and Anarchy Online. DF is leaps and bounds above them. Its definitely not up to todays quality, but it also didnt have todays budget or todays funding.,

 Yep all 10 bucks on game play.... Seriously though I think game play is the most important but in the case of Darkfall, bad gfx and game play is no good.
