It just goes to show you that people don't pay attention.

This is a game made by a small company. Quite frankly, that they even got this far is a miracle in and of itself. This game is, in the end, going to be about the gameplay and offering something that is not prevalent in  mmo's today.

but for some reason players want to ascribe the notion that this game is going to compete with big budget games from big studios.

A healthy dose of perspective needs to be adopted. And because many players can't do this, you will not see very many open pvp full loot games coming to market. Game companies that are large and have money are not going to take the risk.

Darkfall needs to succeed (and by that I mean pay it's bills and provide a fun gaming experience) so that game companies can feel more comfortable creating games that do not fit the usual mode.

I´ve seen ALOT of darkfall videos, leaks and so on, and yes, this is certainly the most ugly video.

BECAUSE: the graphics are obviously tuned down to a minimum in order to make the guys pc run

smoothly while using a program like fraps or whatever to record the gameplay..the graphics does look alot better than that when not turned down..

to the OP: calling this video the OFFICIAL video wasnt wise. since all the people out there who are

to lazy or otherwise just dont do their own "research" will think this is how DF looks, and be sorely dissapointed.

Well after seeing that vid I can honestly say all the air is out of the Adventurine/Taso hype balloon for this gamer.

Im going to give Darkfall a wide pass for some time if this vid really represents a week out from launch.

Its not just the crap graphics or the crap landscapes or the lack of any mobs/npcs. Its the benny hill slap fights where the only skills you need is higher stamina than the other guy and a willingness to chase and bitch slap the other guy for 15mins to wear them down.

Anybody who sees this vid and still buys into darkfall deserves to get ripped off. I was going to give this a game a try even if it completed the trifecta of fail (aoc/ war/ darkfall). But after seeing this vid I can honestly say I would go back and play aoc or war again before giving darkfall any of my cash.

So let me take a stab at this. In order to have 10+ players pvping you need to set graphics to low?

What happened to scalable graphics and that so called "innovative engine".

So graphics isn't everything, of course not but it makes it a hell of a lot more prettier to look at.

You can sprinkle sparkles on your shit but in the end it's still a piece of shit.

With the amount of beta leaks heading on youtube Darkfall looks depressing. I don't know about you but resting for 6mins after you are out of stamina and you do run out fast is pathetic and not fun, might as well play a sitting/standing simulator same deal.

That's just one of the problems that breaks the Darkfall code of "fun" and "no grind"

If you honestly seen a beta leak video, how can call even call it fun pvp, all I seen was people run around in circles using the landscape to mess up the aim of the other player. Not to mention once you are out of stamina it's like you are all of a sudden in a "Scream" movie and need to run for your life because you can't do absolutely nothing.

It's not hardcore, it's stupid mechanics which even the most hardcore fanboi will find out and bitch about once they dive in game.

So does anyone mind telling me what is so wrong with the graphics? First off, did the people who complained about the graphics watch it in high-quality? Because I dont see anything wrong with them. They look fine, sure its not like AoC's graphics, but they are perfectly fine. And how are some of you saying the graphics look like EQ1 when they look nothing like them, seems like the people who come in here trying to bash the graphics have no real interest in the game and only came in here in the first place because they saw Darkfall in the title thread.

To the person saying that WAR's and WoW"s graphics look a lot better than this, you are just ignorant. It looks the same compared to WAR's graphics, and comparing it to WoW's graphics is just stupidity on your part. Seriously, what will you guys do when you dont have Darkfall to bash anymore? Are you guys going to go to the Mortal forums and complain about every little tiny detail you see and dislike, then go and complan about it till the game comes out? Come on, there is no logical debates about this game (sure there was a couple good posts, that was only because the trolls haters had nothing intelligent to say) only people coming in here saying "omg the graphics look like EQ1", "WoW has 10x better graphics than this", "the combat animations suck", "its just a clickfest for combat".

Well, extend that to graphics, sounds and animations. They might function but do they immerse?

I think they keep a whole lot of people who vallue those things away from this game and that is an entirely different aspect than the FFA and sandbox goodness. People might love those just as much as you and I do, but they might still get thrown back by poor visuals. In that regard I do think DF performed below average, sadly. The world is pretty nicely done, it seems. It are the player character design and animations which are the rotten part of the apple. Of course .. luckily they can be updated, but it looks like one hell of a job.

The people here had one melee attack, used only one agressive spell, and one or two beneficial ones.

The game has MANY more, but they arent skilled enough to use them.

 

As for the running, yeah this is an intense game there will be lots of movement, perhaps not quite as much as this, since ppl are still getting used to the game, but that is Darkfall.

If u dont like it u dont have to play it.

This is what i do not get. Why would the devs approve this video to be official beta footage and represent the game.(it has not been banned from these forums so i will look at it as official).

If all these chars are using little to no skills because they are newb chars. why not allow darn beta footage that has chars in their mid skillset to DO JUSTICE TO THE GAME.  It seems like a very poor choice and it is definantly giving the wrong prespective of the game.

That aside i wanna aim at the real issue. the FACT that the people who made this video used Guard tower tactics. If this was to represent beta footage of the game  to wow those who anticipate it. why allow to use the karma exploit to their advantage. let them get grey, run to the towers then melt them.

Completely agreed. I was saying this for a while, the game is subpar at best. Don't get me wrong, the concept is great but the actual execution leaves much to be desired.

I assume the OP called it OFFICIAL because it was the best out of any beta videos so far, yet he claims the the graphics are on the lowest settings (LOL). That's just delusional right there.

I really hate to say it, but Darkfall makes an asian "buy n twist" (buy the client change the name) MMO look like a shooting star and they do little to no work on it period. Quite sad to see 8+ yrs of development used so poorly.

If they gave permission for this video to be released, this close to launch, then they are even worse at marketing than I first thought.  I mean seriously, who in the world just looked at that and said, "this is a game I want to play".  I'm not talking about you die-hards, they could put a video of Pong up there and you guys would say, "look at the awesome back and forth gameplay" / "look at the intense PVP struggle".

Everything about that video looks bad.  From the graphics (even lo-res, my god they are bad), to the horrible animations (I love the "swimming" after he lands in the water), to the affects of the spells (beach ball war?).  You guys can't be serious about liking this video.

Let's hope for AVs sake that they did NOT give permission for this vid and this is some kind of joke.

I could care less about graphics.

There is one major concern in this movie for me... the flow of combat.

This is akin to a FPS knife fight. Same tactics involved. If this game has any chance of longevity it will have to make combat more tactical. Right now I don't see how anyone could argue that tactics are involved in this kind of PvP.

CCs (short duration only) and removing sprinting from combat would go a long ways to making this game more skill based. Right now it is not skill, it is twitch. If I wanted twitch there are any number of better FPS games out there.
