And the third would be an MMO based around Shadow of the Colossus, same gameplay and mechanics but add in a more development character system and itemization, etc.

Fallen Earth, from what i saw of the website, that's what it is.

"Next time i log in SWG ill probably see elves and druids"

someone mentioned it up higher : firefly

it would do good with space flight and landing (a bit a la Jump to light speed but with all ships being POBs (people on board) maned by a crew players or solo on board computer)

another good idea (but a tad less original) would be the underworld series

vampires and lychans and humans , would be perfect for bloddlines clans race mechanics

I personally would love to see a MMORPG off of Jim Butcher's Codex Alera Series

The Series was created on a dare that Jim could not write a good story based off of two bad Idea.  The ideas being The Lost Roman Legion and Pokemon.

What Jim did though was a book that is just perfect for an MMO.   It has a great Magic system that is well explained out and just screams for MMO type combat because Lore issues will never be a problem,

The Alerans (Humans) are a society based off of Ancient Rome and are decendents of the Lost Roman Legion but somehow (not really explained how yet in the series) got transported to another world called Carna.  But their is a ton of Political Intrigue, they even have a Duel System set up called the Juris Macto, and all alerans have the use of Furies (Elementals of Air, Water, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Wood) and some have the abilities to use more than one of the furies and the First Lords can Use All 6 furies.

But their are also a ton of other races each with their own class type.

The Marat - Imagine Happa (half Japanese, half German) Barbarians who can combine with different animals  (they call them Chala or totems) and bond with them in a way that they can use the strengths each animals give them.

Theirs the Horse Clan (bond with Horses)

The Wolve Clan (bond With Wolves)

The Herdbane Clan (Thing of Ostrichs with super high leaping ability and an attitude)

And Gargant (Think of a Badger that is the size and strength of a Huge bull)

The Canim (Werewolve type of Race) that a heavy into Honor on the Battilefield.  The Canim are based off for castes.  The Warrior Castes, The Raider Castes, the Ritualist Caste, and the Maker Caste

Warrior Caste are Elite Warriors

Raiders are just regular consripts

The Ritualists are socerors who use a blood sacrifice from an intelligent Being to power their magic

Makers are just the everyday Canim.

The Icemen are a Sasqatch Yeti based race that can also use the furies that the Alerans can use.  Right now though not too much is known about them but in the last book of the series we will probably find out a whole bunch more of them.

So the world is full of all the races who have a shaky relationship, and the alerans are also fighting amoungst themselves as their are a bunch of different realms in the land each controlled by a High Lord, and then the overall Continent of Alera has a High Lord who tries to keep everyone in check.  But their is also the Senate, political plotting and all that.

The book just screams for an MMO tragically it will never happen.

Hello all, im in my mid 40's so this may be alittle dated but Joel Rosenberg wrote a remarkable set of novels called the Guardians of the Flame series.  It was about not only fantasy style stories such as Forgotten realms, d&d ideas but also slavery & the need for good to abolish such a terrible concept. You could do alot with it and be very happy.  Also possible Piers Anthony Xanth series with players only having one power and cannot be duplicated. random generation for all of coarse or something like that.  Anyway just a thought. Peace!!!

Lots of great suggestions here. I especially like the idea of Pern.

My suggestion though would be Tad Williams'  "Otherland" series. Very  near future Science Fiction.

Lot and lots of possibilities there... If you've read it you know...

Before WOW, there were MMORPG''s. After WOW there were online solo single RPG''s.

Middle Earth (and NO, I don't count LOTRO the linear themepark game).

Hyperborea (Conan's world.  And NO, I don't count Age of Conan, the linear instanced themepark game).

Norrath.  (One more go, and Sony should do it right this time.  And NO MOON.)

Trying not to flame; just curious. Why do you think Middle Earth would work well as a sandbox? I thought they were terrific books, but I really feel the setting is single-story oriented.

Sorry to spam, I'm just in love with Forgotten Realms. Plenty enough material to make it accurate, it's a truly intricate and living world, with updates as new novels are released. It's just the best fantasy setting (In my opinion).

Well, from nearly everyone I have ever known who loved Tolkien's work, all had a desire to live in Middle Earth (even though that's impossible, of course).  Just the beauty and wonder and mystery of the world are the attraction.

The Middle Earth I loved came from The Hobbit and not from the darker Lord of the Rings.  Sure, Middle Earth could work as a sandbox; why not?  Plop the new hobbits in the hobbit area, the  new Elves in Mirkwood or Loth Lorien, the Dwarves from whatever mountains, the Humans from Gondor, Rohan, or just-the-woods (if Rangers) and turn folks loose to level and explore.  No reason why Sauran cannot be some persistent uber boss mob that only the level 80's can take on in raids.

Now Forgotten Realms would be an excellent sandbox world as well.

I think linear themepark games are mostly good for noobs (as in new to computer games, not just MMO's), and sandbox games are better for more seasoned players who "want more" in an MMO.

I think a big issue I have with LOTR being used in games is just that...well, to me hobbits should be pretty much awful at everything but eating and drinking, and possibly farming. But that's just me.

I'd love to see MMOs based on:

- World of Nehwon (Fritz Leiber)

- Melnibone & the Young Kingdoms (Michael Moorcock)

However, I think a fully realised Hyborea would make the ultimate setting for an MMO, with all it's diverse cultures and landscapes.

Oh well...

I was just about to suggest 'Otherland' as well, a wonderful series of novels that could be a great MMO.

How about the 'Wild Cards' mosaic novel series? Super powers but not  in the usual sense, plus the world setting had lots of interesting dynamics & political intrigues that might be good for an MMO too.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

 MAD MAX

As a FPSMMO similer to Fallout 3 but with deep vechile customization

Not much AI Except Really tuff stuff and I mean tuff were you need to group just to travel, And travel you must.. No fast travel BS..

Day/Night cycle Is a must as there has to be a sense of Danger at night From AI which mostley would be flying, driving, As in have AI assult player citys at night.

But of course the main attraction is pure RvR PVP, its how you skill up and rank up, No lvls you can use anything but weather or not your good depends on how long or much you have used it, Have supplies for each city so there would have to be a chain of command in place from the Guild that owns the city.

Of course you would have your own equips but if your sieged for 3 days.. theres only so much ammo a guy can hold and of course that guild is going to be handing ouit the guns/ammo like cookies to save there precious city maybee have a -30% manufacture time for guilds that own the city. A Collection system, Raiding AI towns gives your town X ammount of supplies, Have votes in place, Not Guild v Guild to see who owns citys as any A-hole could missuse supplies, but keep the option there to do so!

I think it's time we had a modern WWII MMO. Perhaps based on something like Len Deighton's SS GB, about a nazi occupied UK. I'd suggest only being able to play Allies though, as I don't think it's a good idea to encourage people to roleplay nazis. The nazis would be the mobs basically. You could play resistance fighters trying to reclaim Britain. I suppose that would mean no PvP though...

^^ This one would be amazing if done right, especially as the series will never be finished now,  would leave the devs a lot of room for creativity

Dune might be good too but have feeling it would end up being just pretty standard class types with dune names

I need a new MMO world to call home as Tom Chilton keeps destroying them
