I think the number of servers that aventurine plans to use at launch is more important discussion.  If they stick by numbers they had stated earlier 10k max concurrent users per server, and I would guess there will be 5 at max.  I wouldn't expect Aventurine handing out more than 20k preorders, and 40k subscriptions at launch. 

I'm in agreement that the poll is probably over estimating the % of people that will preorder. 

Tasos clearly stated they would lift the NDA before, or when, they officially start taking preorders, so the poll is invalid.

The game will not get anymore than around 5,000 pre orders (if they are lucky).

Dark and Light only managed to get 10,000 or so pre orders and it was ridiculously hyped and even promoted by Farlan at E3 events.

And it was the exact same type of game Darkfall is ... and never had an open Beta either...

 

So ur estimate just went up 50x times in a few posts.

No idea about Dark and Light as I never even heard of that game till after it had failed, but reading up on it didn't they sell out their Pioneer pre-orders entirely ?

i think they can get 2 serevrs up but not sure

 My guess is they have one server.

Thats all they can afford atm, and they are all working on that one.

One server can hold 10 thousand concurrent players, which means they can have up to 50 thousand accounts on it.

I know it sounds wild, but statistics prove it.

What it does mean however is that 50 thousand people at launch would not work, which, im guessing, is why they are talking about a staged release.

Take in 5 thousand players, wait a day, take in another 5 thousand and so on, that would be one way to handle the issue using a release in stages.

Then when one server is full they will have the capital to open another server and so on and so on.

I know it sucks for us because it means most of us will not be able to play the first day, but oh well, as long as I get into the game, a day or two isn't going to make a big difference in terms og being competitive.

It wont be 200k. They have said numerous times that they are limiting sales because they cannot handle that many people. I would say more around 100k max.

It wont be 200k. They have said numerous times that they are limiting sales because they cannot handle that many people. I would say more around 100k max.

actully they said they cant handle the over 200k people for an open beta

when people say things like.. " yes I will buy it.. I will still get it because even if I don't like it/can't play it.. I wont be out that much money.." or "its only money, big deal" ...etc

That's what companies BANK on. They LOVE YOU for that. I am willing to bet that's why there will be a lot of no name company's will come out just to find people like them, and make a crappy game.

30 to 50 bucks for a game.. not a big deal? but if enough people think "big deal" and pay for a crappy game.. that's still a ton of money to them =P best case scenario for them.. they break even.. then just go make another crappy game

 Has Tasos actually said anything yet about Darkfall that has been proven true? Lets see, Release in 2008, Release Jann 22nd, "we won't set a release date that we can't keep". Darkfall has been fully tested by AI bot and paid beta testers it doesn't need a long beta test. Darkfall is feature complete and more ready for release then any other MMO out (posted what late Nov, early Dec?) We won't take pre-orders. Everyone will get a chance to try the game before buying it etc etc.

 I find it funny you still believe so much in what Tasos says when he's proven time and time again he's inept or clueless and IMHO is doing more harm to DF then good. (kinda like some of the fans that keep repeating his words like they are fact rather then just plan poorly done PR)

 So when are they gonna have this open beta? I'd guess so far they haven't gotten to 20K for their closed (by invite only, under NDA) beta. As with Darkstar, I'm guessing they only have 1 server going. If they try and cram 100K people on a 10K server in the first month its gonna be a nightmare.

But i been burnt too many times by small indie companies to even touch a pre order from them.And the way Darkfall has been going i see the exact same pattern i saw in shadowbane,D&L and roma victor.And te delay in lifting the NDA is exact pattern of all the other indie games that have come and fallen.

But i  have to say  it will sell at least 10k pre orders because faith sells.And here is a mmorpg saying "oh if u do not start early u might have a disadvantage in pvp".Thats a strong selling line for pre ordering and buying it right at start.

Its only $50 right?Well i given my $50 to too many indie games over the years and its no longer only $50 but 50 x 4 or 5 =over $200.

Stop insinuating that a person hopeful of this amazing game is any less critical about Tasos.

Tasos should not be the commiunity rep, unfortunetly they cant afford one.

But that has nothing to do with the facts of the game, and those facts are evident in the many leaks spread over the net.

The game is good, ppl that play it like it, the rest is irrelevant.

Ya they sold the pioneer pre order thing.. but only about 10,000 worth... they kept taking more after so it was probably a few thousand more...

And that was before everyone got burned...  Darkfall is going to have an even harder time. It's like a carbon copy of DnL..  they are taking pre orders... No public Beta... limited people in a closed beta... no real info...
