Bottom line, I am going to pre-order.  I know exactly what I am getting into, and have paid for worse.  The game will still need plenty of work and I am not certain it will hold together under load, but it just might. 

If I forget all the propoganda spewed by Aventurine over the years and just keep in mind this is another niche game by an indy dev, it looks pretty good.  It has potential to be even more, but most of us have seen enough unrealised potential in other games.  I do expect a very bumpy ride if they launch on the 25th, but for me, it is worth a shot.

It will be much quicker then that if it is in fact "flawed". People dont have the paitence to put up with crap anymore. I lasted 90 days in Warhammer, the least number of days ive played any MMO and it was with the highest hopes I entered that world.  Fact is people are much much more astute and educated about the nature of MMO's and what devs can and do try to get away with, and conversely how transparent alot of this is in fact to a potential player base. Like I always say, be honest, dont bullshit your potential customer, and people will respect that and support the dev, but bullshit people and dont expect people to stay, pay, and play.

on a serious note, i doubt DF will fail as much as D'n'L did, sure dnl is a crap mmo, but its free to play and the server is still up last i heard.

Exactly. The best thing you can do is wait until it drops from #1 on the MMO chart on this site.  See where is lands and then check it out. I always wait at least 3 months before making a decision on a game and that comes from a LONG list of $49.95 charges to my debit card that wound up being a waste of money.

It hasn't been #1 in weeks. That doesn't say anything about the game itself but there you are.

Having a blast with beta,too With try to get in on the pre orders.

The only thing we dont know ,can the servers really hold 10 k people,with out any problems.

 Simply because I am sick and tired of paying for bad launches. DF may suck, may be great, but there is simply no way to tell right now and the company has raised more than enough redflags to warrant caution.

DF may be the next big and best sandbox game of all time, it may a mediocre gankfest with no content, might be a good game with no hardware support that can't handle more than 10k subscribers, or it may be a total internet hustle...there is just NO way to tell from what has been made public and a lot of reasons to question every word Tasos speaks. For a game supposedly launching in 2 weeks, this state of affairs is unforgivable.

I'll be watching the drama; I hope it's a great game, I really do. But I can wait til launch + 4 weeks or whatever amd if it sets new standards for "fail" then I am not out another $50. 

Until Olivia Munn says it's good, won't be touching it.

Just really gots to be blind to see that it has the same vitals than D&L :

1) Crappy small ass developing company who never did anything before in their life (u can't just come outta nowhere and do a big MMORPG)

2) Poor means associated ot the company (no monies no shinies)

3) Very opaque communication from Tasos (uh oh do i feel like somehting's wrong going there ?)

4) Isn't this game supposed to release like SOON and we still have no open beta ?  Can name any successful MMORPG which hadn't a fully open beta like 1 month at least from launch ? (hell i even beta tested UO and that was 10 years ago people, we're not in the 90's anymore, it's time to be professional a little).

I understand that fanbois urge to have a game that they could praise and throw in the face of WoW players like  "ewww you play WoW it sucks i play xxx it's much better, u're so not cool".

To do that it's very simple anyway, no need to wait for a broken game, u can :

1) Get UO on a free shard (and guess what ? ITS FREE and has most of the features DF brags, and they are working !!!)

2) Play EQ2 on Nagafen, simply the best.

Or u can go for diff type of games like EVE or other innovative stuff.

But whatever, convincing fanbois is as hard as convincing a religious fanatic, so it's pointless.

So, do what u want with ur monies but buying DF is about as clever as trying to setup credit derivatives again on the market.

I get that there is no open beta, and we should have seen one a long time ago.

Which is why ive always stated that another delay in the game would not surprise me.

But apart from that what do u think is going to happen ?

From the massive amounts of leaks we already know the game is playable, and very enjoyable,  if they have lag issues at first that will be fixed, we are at a technological level where its basically a matter of tweaking, and since they are using NGi as their service provider they will have proffesionals to help them do that.

So basically we are getting a ffa pvp, full loot game with casting, melee, crafting, guild warfare, player towns and sieges, red vs blue and faction vs faction.

And.... THATS what I want.

No fog system in the game?  yeah i dont care..
