I don't need to play the game to read the fear behind your condescension. Keep whistling past that graveyard.
Well, from persoanl experience I can tell you the server is quite stable. They don't have the resources to add more servers yet, and even if they did, as he said, it's not that simple nor a fast process. Everyone seems to of been spoiled by the larger corporations, and now they all expect this level of perfection from smallyer companies trying to make a different game. It really disgusts me.
It takes a few hours to copy the files to the hard drives and test them. They're not required to go to the server farm and solder the motherboards together. Aventurine may be small but the company that's agreed to host their servers isn't. Unless of course that fell through as well. Not having the resources is the result of bad management. They knew they were going to launch they just didn't plan for it. "Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice." ~Greys Law |

God, looking at this thread makes me remember that, people never learn.... Dark and Light, Mourning>Age of Mourning, preorder scams to crappy unfinished games that promised everything and showed nothing... and in the end they sucked as much technically as entertainly.... boring bug ridden slug fests... |

Reading the interview and these threads reminded me of a quote by Penn and Teller. I think they were asked about this magician that calls himself "Mind freak". That's when he says slowly and methodically, "Magic on TV.... Brilliant!" If this keeps up I think Darkfall will have us paying them funds just for more interviews about interviews. lol |

Anyway why cant someone ask the tough questions to Tasos? This was a softball intertview. Everytime i read Taso's interviews he has never remined consistant for long. Adventurine really need to be more forthcoming, relaistic, and open about the state of thier game. Well let's be fair to MMORPG,how many tough interviews has the largest game given? WOW! they are the masters of remaining quiet, they do not want to answer anything, but instead just want your money. Aventurine is trying to run a small operation but many are expecting a SOE operation,it is not and will not happen.People are putting words into Tasos mouth and trying to make it sound like DF is trying to be the biggest game ever,it is not, they are not trying to compete with anyone on any level. Personally i think the game will be sort of weak, but oh well,it is geared for a small market, and i do not believe they have been misleading in any way,so let their niche crowd play it and enjoy it. Go watch the leaked videos, and all your questions will be answered, they show everything you need to see. |

I want to play Darkfall but there is no way in hell Im gonna preorder from an unknown company that seems to be hiding information from the public less than 2 weeks before launch. I never played DnL but I sure ass hell preordered Age of Conan and Im not gonna piss any more money down the drain on hope that it is a good game. |

If you're awaiting final scores on a college entrance exam... are you going to be happy when the news is you failed and won't be accepted? Of course not. No different here... People were awaiting news/updates... and they're not happy with what those updates contained.

Only great launch I seen is Guildwars, and they had a year long beta before launching. So, no smaller companys can do good launches. But I am worried that they started the open beta late and with few players, Guildwars was ok since they way it goes you really don't get lagg but in a game like DF server lagg is a disaster, if you lagg you can loose everything. Most buggs they might get away with but lagg and client crashes can kill the game fast. You really don't want to crash and when you relogg you are nude. So as I see it there are reasons to have concerns but not to count out the game yet. |

They call it "Server Stress Test" but they continuously add new content to test or modify some depending on player's feedback. I'd actually call that Closed Beta 2 as players were selectionned while Open Beta allows everyone to join in. ---------------------------- |

nope OP is right this game is definately not "feature complete", far from it infact, and this game is only half of a sandbox, as there are many themepark features in it (such as AoC like player buildings). With that being said, its not a great game by any means, but it definately blows everything else in the market out of the water. If anything, a really fun holdover until MO When I'm energetic I'm: When I'm at default I'm:

And people wonder why so many people get called trolls on this forum...very rarely do you see a post like this that is something more than "lol DF is teh fail nubs". I agree to an extent, the game needs to delay again but is just 10000x better than anything on the market right now and has the potential to be the fantasy version of EVE in success and experience. ~~ Darkfall Recap of everything that has happened the last 3 months: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/213296 "The monsters are tough. I was exaggerating for effect. No, even large corporations with ten times as many employees and almost infite resources don't have perfect starts, so how on earth can you possibly expect a small company to? Come on people, cut them some slack. Man, why is everyone so uptight. |

You're not doing a good job though. Downtoearth warmed our hearts with the laughter brought forth by his unique brand of spelling and incoherent blabbering . You are doing nothing but spewing the same old "Darkfall is 10000x better than anything on the market" nonsense that even other hardcore fanboys find obnoxious.
Pick up the slack and find some new lines to parrot, please. I'm beginning to feel embarrassed for you. |

Anyone who uses a line like "im beginging to feel embarased for you" should just stop posting on a forum like this because you think that anyone cares about a comment like that. And ironic that you are saying something about repetitive statements when you never support your statements. And while i may have recently said i think the game is better than anything else out there...i have a long post history of mainly DF posts that are very in depth and varied (see stickies as well) so please spare me the waste of forum space trying to make me out as just a rabid fanboi spammer. Downtoearth i think was around about the same time I was, we have both been following the game for a long time, way before I have seen you come to these boards. Purely from a consumer standpoint, I can't see spending money on a product that could possibly have issues that prevent you from getting your money's worth. Unless you are a militant fan of the game, you can't believe with much certainty that you won't regret investing money in it. If the PR representative of an auto-manufacturer or investment fund communicated to the public in vague and contradictory statements as Tasos has, don't you think the prevailing wisdom would be wait and see first? If Open Beta were going on now, then I could decide for myself and if there ever is one I will. I hope DF succeeds since I know PvP players have very few polished options in the MMORPG market and there is a niche to be filled there. There's certainly a ton of buzz going on leading up to launch and they will get enough players at launch to have a fair shot at proving the game is fun. All the secrecy this close to launch has my guard up though. My MMORPG wish is that someday the standard is for a playable demo for new realeases (newbie zone only or 1st 5-10 levels) to be available for download for a small fee of $5 or so which would be credited towards a full purchase if you decide to sign up. That way we would all be having a healthy debate about the game itself and not speculating on what we think, hope or fear it might be. |

I didn't really read all that, just enough. I don't see ur problem. Darkfall will be a game with ffa pvp, and full loot, it will feature factions vs faction. blue vs red and guild vs guild, and guild towns with sieges. Thats enough, id pay for that.
What are these tremendous KEY-FEATURES that ppl are screaming about? I can handle some stuff needing to be patched, and i know the game has the above, and I know it works cuz ive seen the beta leaks, and thats all.

MMORPG.com: We haven't heard anything new from the developers since the Jan 22nd news item announcing the first round of invites. Can you tell us why we haven't heard any further updates? Tasos: YES! It's exhilarating, actually. The team's been in the office around-the-clock lately pounding away at the game getting it in tip top shape for release on the 25th. We're doing everything we can (and doing a pretty good job of it, I might add) keeping all of our testers informed. It's very important to us that we keep the external community excited and interest in Darkfall, but our main priority is keeping the many thousands of beta testers we've been adding regularly in the loop. It'll help us ship a better product in the end!
Tasos: The testers have been integral to fine tuning the game to exactly where we want it. It's actually pretty funny -- different beta builds contain different rulesets, and the tester community is actually proving our original hypotheses about how different functions should be in the game when released. As we release more and more layers of the game, they're responding to it and making suggestions that were actually part of the original plan and just haven't been added to the beta build yet. In other words, the players have better ideas than we do, but we're going to take credit for them. Part of being here around the clock means responding to bugs in record time. Honestly, I don't know of any other game out there --beta or live-- that's been on top of issues the testing community has been facing like we have been here at Darkfall. It doesn't matter if it's in the middle of a business day, or midnight on a Sunday; if it's broken, we're fixing it, and we're making such great progress. It’s our commitment to continuously and proactively support this game throughout its lifecycle, on a daily basis, and to listen closely to what the players have to say so that the game can evolve and grow. We won’t simply assign a ‘live team’ to support the game while the rest of us move on to something else. The testers working with us already know this. MMORPG.com: There had been some speculation that there are plans to push the launch date further back than the originally announced 25th date. Can you tell us if there is any truth to this? Tasos: Absolutely not! Darkfall will be polished and ready for consumption in the EU on February 25th exactly as planned. Tasos is still delusional, at best, I see.
Tasos: We're working with Globalcollect, a leading and trusted global payment service, on our pre-orders. Basically, players will be able to pre-order and download the game ahead of time so that they'll be able to play at launch. You don't have to pay the full price up front either; just a small portion of it to initiate the download process. Many, if not most, MMORPGs experience considerable growing pains when they launch and we're actively trying to avoid this. We won't try to support more users than we can guarantee a good gameplay experience for, and if demand is higher than supply we'll move to a structured release. Since we're planning on supporting more than 10,000 concurrent users, it requires considerably more infrastructure than your average MMOG; we can't just throw up a few more servers and call it a day. It's a gradual process, but it'll make sure we can support the demand and keep the experience seamless for our very important early adopters. The beta's been rather helpful in this regard; the overwhelming majority of people who have played the game have expressed their interest in pre-ordering, but it's not our intention to urge anyone to pre-order; rather, to simply inform that this is an available option. Those bonuses like starting early and getting a spot ingame are in no way incentives to pre-order.
Tasos: The only feature we haven’t had time to implement is the Mahirim 4 legged run. Mahirim characters can of course use mounts until this is implemented. Their animator doesn't know how to adapt skeletal structures of the pre-made Maya characters. There've been a few skills actually removed from production because we felt they were tedious or redundant; part of being committed to the player experience means being willing to put certain features to the chopping block if it doesn't add to the fun of the game. Running guards have been removed and replaced with guard towers to open up space in the world and increase performance. As we always have an eye on the economy, ships, cannons, warhulks, and structures can be repaired, but not on player items; the proper balance adjustments have been made to this system, of course, but the overall effect on the economy is much better with this system. Yay! You can fix NPC shit, but not your own! Player housing has been rolled into clan housing, ritual magic has been and prestige classes have been left out, and ARAC guilds are possible for practical reasons with only the penalty of incompatibility. They ran out of design ideas after one house, so they made it bigger and called it "clan housing", and they couldn't figiure out how to make anything but bubbles so more types of bubble magic would have made them look even more non-talented than they do now. That said, there are hundreds of added extras to the game that the players are not expecting which we will continue to add throughout the lifecycle of the game. The testers have responded very positively to several of the things we've implemented that we've never told anyone about. MMORPG.com: Can you give us an idea of when you plan to lift the game's NDA Tasos: I could, but then I'd be breaking the NDA ;) Sure, even Tasos can go to jail for breaking their airtight scary monster NDA! MMORPG.com: Has any progress been made in moving toward a North American launch date after the European date of the 25th? Tasos: For the time being the European servers have been handling N. American players very well, and no problems have been reported due to player location. They just label them as haters and ignore their" complaints", so there are no complaints. When the game goes live N. American players may play on the EU servers, and we will of course facilitate the migration of N. American players to join the N. American servers when these become available if they so choose. We'll have more information on this when we come out of crunch! Still, though, we prefer to delay the N. American launch and do it right rather than tack it on now to the already overwhelming job of launching the Most Anticipated MMO of 2008! Welcome to 2009. But Tasos is living in the make-believe past where people still gave a shit about his "game". |
