They especially like some of the instances and that they can equip their old gear on their jedi (pre-cu unlocks).

So, why don't I go back and join them?

Well, SOE had just about worked the kinks out of the pre-cu system, and the game was very enjoyable; then we were hit with the unwanted, bug-infested combat upgrade.

O.k. I figured I'd give them a chance to work the kinks out of that also, and I did.  Just as they were getting the CU into an enjoyable, reasonably stable status; Wham! we were hit with the NGE out of the blue.

I tried playing that for a few months, and even went back to it about a year later; but wow that was just a freakin' disaster.

Now I hear that they're finally getting the NGE into some kind of playable state.  Two of my friends (most have not returned) are enjoying it.  If history is any indication, the rug should be pulled out any time now.  I can hardly stand to watch.

I've also seen what they did to NGE players with what they call the Combat Downgrade, and I've seen how crafters got a revamp and then had their usefulness undermined by loot card items.

Every time I've given Smed another chance to do alright by me as a customer, I've walked away with a sore backside.  If I went back now, I'd feel like Charlie Brown taking yet another doomed run at the football held by his sadistic friend.  I've decided that my life is better without football, or at least without dealing with someone like Lucy, or Smed.

As long as you invest zero emotion, and zero passion, into it, it can be fun from time to time. Inest any heart, and expect it to be broken. Smed is NOT one of the good guys.

Not that he actually maliciously wants to hurt his customers -- no, in some ways, it's worse. He simply doesn't consider other people at all. Treat his game with the same level of emotion he treats us.

It's sad, though. I love getting INTO my games -- I throw whatever passion I can muster into anything i do. At least, that's my standard behavior with things I enjoy. If your gonna do something -- do it with everything you got.

Every time I log in, I have to consciously remember NOT to do that. It's hard to do for me, but I have  managed to do so.

It is the only way to guard against the Smedding of the game. It's a Smed game -- he is GONNA do it again.

that is sad and a true testament to what they have done to this game.

Ive got a free trial available at the moment.

I have not logged in in about two years, and every now and again feel the urge to log back in to visit my city (if its still there) my houses and check who of my friends from back in the day is online.

But I wont do it. I've have given these assholes more than enough chances and have gone through enough frustrations to even bother trying out their efforts in making the NGE playable.

History has shown time and again that at one point they will fuck players again some way or another.

Arc, it would have been half way believable if you would have just said "one" freind returned and liked it. Two, however, is just too high a number to believe. Screenie or it didnt happen. hehe.

"is GONNA do it again."    I'd be willing to bet money on it.

LOL! I am sure the fact that the two friends are playing it together factors into it.. Misery loves company and all that.   I am sure if one decides to bail out of the game the other will do so shortly thereafter.

Longest I gave it was 2 weeks about a year ago after EK went live, after 2 weeks it stopped being fun- it was the same ol same ol, pvp and instances, rinse and repeat and pvp was so laggy. I still had SWG on my laptop and logged on last week and transferred my chars and I didn't even last 30 minutes at a time, pvp was even worse and every POI you went to was farmed by AFKers or farmers and instances were being done at scheduled times by the guild and we were unable to successfully finish ISD everytime (that stupid squad leader not spawning bug). Seems everytime I go back, the amount of time I'm logged on gets shorter and shorter.

I tried the game on my last vet trial and stayed. Of course it is in no possible way compares to pre-cu and this is evil soe etc, but... crafters are back, my WS is having bussiness and it's fun, it's again complex and about schematics and components looted or gained, pvp sucks big time indeed, whole gcw in fact sucks big time, but pve is not bad at all, instances included. I wish I had a better game, pre-cu classic server preffered, couldn't find any on MMO market, waiting for fallen earth and TOR.

If you don't get too much into SWG story it is somewhat enjoyable atm again.

That all may be true for you, but a lot of us can't bring ourselves to ever pay SOE again, after all the BS they have pulled.

At a certain point, I won't reward bad behavior.

Enjoy SWG while it lasts, I guess....

You, my friend, just hit the nail on the head for me.  I was 9 when StarWars first came out.  It was magic.  It's always had a special place in my heart.  It's impossible for me to play a StarWars MMO without it touching some deep things in me; things that I treasure.   Smed just can't be trusted with that I'm afraid.

Back when the NGE first went live, I heard someone say, "SOE killed my inner child."  I understand that.  Mine wasn't killed, but it was rather badly abused.  Playing a StarWars MMO for many of us was like a dream come true.  What Smed did to the game (as you say largely due to ignorance and insensitivity) turned the dream into a nightmare; repeatedly.  At some point, you just say enough is enough.

Now, if I had seen a real change in his pattern of management, I might re-think my position.  The two most recent issues that have led me to keep my inner child away from Smed's house were the loot card gamble in SWG and the item shops in EQ, after he said he was firmly opposed to them.

Same old Smed I'm afraid.  I really don't think he gets how his repeated contradictions and scams are bad for his customers, and as a result, bad for business.  It's really too bad, for him and many of us.

Hence why you all hang out here

I would like to state that in no way shape or form that anything I receive from SOE influences my opinion about SWG or their company. I’m pretty much a typical average player enjoying the game.

SHHHH...

We can't talk about that here. In here, the emu project doesn't even exist, even if Smed did say, "good luck" to them.

Zing! lol.  Truth be known I have a lot of fun chatting with people here about old games and new :).  There are also a lot of nice alternatives to SWG/NGE that we can all chat about quite freely.

I've recently been impressed once again at options that offer excellent gameplay and customer service.  These include games like EVE, WoW and LoTR.  As I've mentioned I'm also beta testing something that is a real treat.  It really does actually work better than SWG, even though it's just in beta.

Of course, being a beta test, I'm not paying a premium price for it, AND the developers really value my input.  I think it might even qualify for what we call a "corrective emotional experience" lol.  "You mean I'm not paying to beta test something, and my input as a player is actually valued?  Far out 0_o."

This brings to mind another piece of feedback for Smed, "much to learn you still have." :)

I reactivated my accounts just to take advantage of the free server transfer and moved to a heavily populated server and i can't remember when i had this much fun on an MMO. I left not to long after NGE in utter disgust. Its not pre NGE and I will admit I think the skill tree was much better than having to lvl the same way as every other game but I have had alot of fun since coming back. I have played alot of different MMO's in hopes of having the fun I had in swg pre NGE only to be dissappointed but since I have come back I have had nothing but fun.
