Last official number was 100.000 accounts and a comment that UO is wildly profitable with another comment that they could persuade EA not to close UO down.

So with 100.000 accounts and an avera ge of 2 accounts a player you have about 50.000 people playing worldwide.

About half of that plays in asia (most of them japan).

Not that im disagreeing with you, but I find it funny that the replies to this question has always been 100k accounts for the past 4+ years.

I honesly think theres more people who keep an eye on UO to see if its going to change back to what it was, then there are people playing.  Just my opinion though.

That was the last 'official' number EA stated.

Officially it was about 100.000 accounts one to two years ago. They considered cancelling it already, but Mythic convinced them to keep it open and try a new expansion.

UO does not have more than 2-3 developers anymore anyway and their gms handle all games, so their costs for the game are pretty small.

And there are definitely more people watching than playing - Over the years probably millions tried UO, they just could not keep the players. And it does not help that half or more of the playerbase is in Asia and we hardly hear anything from there.

Agree with everything except the above , I can tell you with great confidence , UO has way more than that working on the game as a WHOLE.."

I will also predict if Stygian doesnt grab new players ,UO will not last to much longer , UNLESS EA/ Mythic decides to dump DOAC ( Because WAR is closer to DOAC than UO is , in term of game styles)

EA lost its chance to make UO great or even as big as WOW ( well maybe not ).

I'm pretty sure most active players don't play on the offical servers.

i thought the largest population centres where in certain servers whilst others where pretty much dead. To my understanding it is europa on the EU side of things and im not 100% but i thought it was atalantica on the US side but dont quote me on US figures :P

I was going to go back but after trying the trial I realized how bad they screwed up the game... The old 2d was good.

I would think that Darkfall is going to kill this game off as it is UO 3D as it should have been done.

However ony 10,000 players are going to be able to play DF when it is finally released.

UO is not going anywhere. The game is pure profit for EA, so why would they let easy money go?

The dev team isn't your largest, but it is certainly enough to develop the game effectively in it's current state. UO was the grandaddy of 'em all, so I think 11 years under it's belt is pretty dang impressive. I happen to think it has many more years to come, given, the servers will never be as populated as they once were but UO has a strong, creative, and dedicated community that will fight tooth and nail (as they have for a decade) to keep their favorite game around. I'm happy to say that I'm one of those people who will go till the end, because of so many friends I've made, lost, and still have in UO.

As for Darkfall killing off ANY game (much less UO, which has survived the release of every other MMO up to this point), well I prefer not to ignite a flame war. That is all.

When it comes to population, I can't say for sure but certain servers have a good number of people. Namely Europa, Atlantic, Great Lakes, and Chesepeake. Forgive me if I missed anyone!

Ton of misinformation in this thread. UO has way more developers than 3, and is still highly profitable.

It has more subs than 90% of games on this site. You know a game is still good when new games like AoC don't have many more subs.
