Right, SOE pulled an NGE 2 and brought in RMT to not just EQ2, but also EQ1.  Why would Smed risk loosing tons of subscribers and possibly ruin the EQ franchise?

The answer is simple, because EQ2 and EQ1 are DEAD.  They are old news.  The people who still play (or try and play) EQ games have probably subed for a long time, and they have hung around after all the crap SOE threw at them.  The EQ2 crowd especially is used to "buying" fluff (which is all the game is about now) items through the Legends of Norrath cards, and now there is a more direct route.

No one is coming in any significant number to EQ 1 or 2 anymore.  All future SOE games will include RMT in some form.  Probably most MMO's will include it in some form.  So this was a pretty safe bet by SOE to give half of the players what they wanted and the other half really doesn't care, or else might leave.  But frankly they come and go.

The really BAD thing SOE has done is once again RUINED it's reputation among gamers.  This is where the marketing and numbers game is going to fail them.  They simply keep changing their games into cheep asian-free-to-play fluff games, while at the same time charging loads of money per month.  They own a catalog of run down, poorly launched MMO titles which in itself could be a collection of has beens or could have beens.  It's quite sad!

Blizaard will keep beating the pants off SOE just like Microsoft does with Sony.  The PS3 will not save SOE, the Agency will not save them, and their Free Realms won't.  Because Smed keeps making STUPID choices and screwing over the paying customers.

You all know this well.  But no matter the game, SOE will ruin it for everyone.  Expect it and bring your business elsewhere.

Something wrong with the other three RMT threads on the front page?

You offer nothing new, and claiming EQ2 as being dead and having no new incoming players  is a fallacy.

The post above is very correct. EQ2 is FAR from dead.

Hell, EQ1 is not dead yet either. Not a big influx of new players, but a decent number of veterans who choose to stick with it.

My personal oppion is that blizzard's big boost to being the MMO monster is their excellent advertising.  SOE only released one commercial on TV, and there is no internet advertising.

Lol. You lost me with that little tid-bit right there. EQ1 isn't quiet dead yet, the combine (progression server) still has a decent population and most EQ2 servers are running medium load at prime time. To top it off, EQ RMT isn't a factor, there is nothing for sale to give anyone an advantage unless you count XP pots which aren't really that big of a deal. Some people are in more of a rush to level but in the end, they've got nothing else to benefit them.

Do we need another one of these threads? I don't know where you come off saying that EQ1 and 2 are dead. Both games are far from dead, and I don't think SOE needs "saved". I could rant on and on about the stupidity of this post, but I will save my breath. Good riddance.

Yep, some people don't know what a dead game is.

No, I'm not saying TR sucks, but... well, yeah.

Currently playing: EverQuest II

Tried: EVE Online (will return someday), Final Fantasy XI (didn't like, sorry)

I wouldn't call even EQ dead, while it have extremly few new players it is still going. EQ2 do actually have at least some new players coming in.

Both games are far from dead, TR, AC2,  Sims online and Hellgate: London are dead games.

It is possible that Blizz will get more new players from SOe but I doubt they will be many, anyone who hasn't tried Wow yet are not intrested in it. SOE players are generally older and everyone who wanted to have already left.

And Wow is getting old and dated too, just like EQ did once. It will start to lose players sooner or later too, in fact most of the players who went back to the game for WOTLK have left again. Blizz next game can be a huge succes but it can also flop, few of the people working on Wow originally (and Blizzards other games), and the competition will be tougher the next few years.

But SOE do need to change a bit if they want to actually become bigger. My suggestion would be porting Everquest to PS3 with new graphics, that would sell. And fire Smedleys butt for the NGE, RMT and all the other crap.

i wouldn't call EQ1 or EQ2 dead by any true measure. but I wont be playing it anymore. RMT has left a bad taste in my mouth too like many others. SO whether it picks up new players, or doesn't, its still a shame that Smed picked such ridiculous choices in managing these games. and it is true, this RMT decision can be described as a "NGE 2" as SOE/Smed didnt introduce the RMT feeature until enough people bought the TOS expansion. thank god I didnt buy it. i saved myself $40 and alot of headaches. I hope people enjoy the game despite the RMT features, and good for them. me Ill be passing it on.
