So I have signed up for the 14 day free trial and so far I think I am gonna buy this game and sub. It looks really good seems real fun so far. What I would like is for some of the Eve players to help me out in getting started.  I made a minmatar Brutor slave child. Is this a good choice still early on if I should change. I have done a few of the 1st missions killing some pirates, rescueing some guy ect.. Should I look to get into a corp now or wait a while. Should I be minning alot?? I am not entirley sure what direction I should be going. Am I suppose to just keep doing agent missions till I get better skilled?

Finding a good noobie corp is a must. They help more than you can ever dream.

Second, you can make money a few ways. If you prefer combat, then i would continue doing missions or ratting in asteroid belts, but i would defitely pick up a salvaging skill, you can double your money in no time by salvaging your wrecks.

Third, if you enjoy mining, you wont be making super big bucks until a bit later, when you can use a mining barge, and hold 1000-4000 m3 of cargo.

(if you need a noobie corp to hook up with, look at EVE-U or iff you want a smaller environment, i belong to a noob corp, oldest member is me at 4 months lol)

I would join a CORP as soon as possible. Look for a CORP recruiting in your area that fits what you want to do in EVE right now. If you are enjoyning running missions look for a PVE CORP or if you want to join the fighting look for a PVP corp. Alot of them will take on new players, some of the more established ones won't (or if they are currently at war) for fear of spies. So don't take it to personally if you get rejected, there are plenty of CORPs. I'd tell you to hit me up in-game but we are wardec'd (War Declared) right now and holding off on new members for the duration.

Not quite sure what you game goals are, but you might want to compare your character build to the ones in this document and if they are not in line consider re-rolling now before you get too far along.

For a new player starting out, I'd recommend one of the "PVE" Builds so you can get an early jump on earning ISK quickly.  You can train PVP skills up a bit later.

So far the eve insider forums seem real good they have a whole noob guide section so that should help.

Nonsense.  I was PVPing in a Manticore (Stealth Bomber) in 0.0 in less than 5 months using the Caldari PVE build taken from this guide. (and that included reasonable advancement of my learning skills (4/4)

Certain PVP skills translate from your PVE training especially if you train in missiles.  Its when you try to train in guns (not great for PVE) or drones/guns when times get pretty extended.

not true at all...4 months in and i can solo lvl 3 missions in my prophecy, or hang in level 4 missions with my corp (taking turns tanking with 3 battlecruisers). After 2 months you can be fairly effective in pvp as a tackler for larger ships. In my little frigate, fitted with a couple of lasers and an autocannon, i can tank battleships all day.

Ignore the person above me, all you really need is 2-3 months under your belt if you specialize in something (i specialized in beam lasers and tanking skills - already working on large beam laser specialization, having completed small and medium to level 5, and all armor compensation and energy management skills are level 3-4). My toon is 4 months old, andh ave been holding my own, have my own little fleet of ships, and about 80 of 200mil isk goal to buy, fit, and insure a battleship, which i should have in a week or 2. So the misconceptions that you need a 2 year old toon to pvp is a complete fallacy.

Io nly play an hour or 2 a night, usually one mission, but with salvaging skills, my 500k mission turns into a 3mil isk mission.....its quite nice.

My 14 day trail just ended and this game continue to blow my mind. I'm not saying its the best MMO ever because there are clearly flaws, but what this game has to offer can not be found any where else. Its like the scifi PvP version of Everquest.

Get in a noob corp. Just join the Recruiting channel and ask if anyone is accepting Noobs. 5 people will instantly start a conversation with you.

As to the 3 months for PVP. THat is crap. With all the skills that you get for free nowadays you can be PVPing in a week. All you need to do is get some basic skills out of the way so you can run a webber and a warp scrambler and you can go out ganking other frigates or miners. Once you get in a corp they love to have extra frigates around during fleet ops.

Corporation is most important though.

Eve is the best MMO for people that are tired of the WoW /EQ style of mmos.

There are quite a few corps in game that actually train newbies and a ton of guides to read.

PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

or... you could join your corp in doing lvl 4 and lvl 5 missions your first week in the corp.

eve isn't a solo game.  why would you play it that way?

i mean, you CAN play it that way; but if you do, there's no QQing about it.  sorry, it's the rules.

so, as a TEAM sport -- you can be doing any mission your first week, WITH your corp.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Join a corp, now.  Eve is all about setting your own goals and boundaries and is essentially very heavily PVP (by this I dont just mean combat but other apects like industry, logistics, buying, selling etc).  You will find the PVE (vs PNCs) side gets a bit boring until you are good enough for Level 4 missions so, yes, join a corp.

Look out for a corp that does things that you are interested in - i.e Dont join a Pirate corp if you like mining and vice versa.  The Corp you join will probably be part of an Alliance, which will give you a huge sphere of other players to perform group tasks (mining, missions, pvp combat etc) with or join massive organised operations.  I joined a corp and was involed in an op like a few days later.

Its up to your whether you mine or not.  Mining is a source of income, a good one, but you may find it gets a bit boring.  I suggest doing a few more missions for cash until you can get a good cruiser.  Everyone should have some kind of combat skill so decide which area you like most: Drones, Missiles, Gunnery (Lasers, Hybrid Turrests, Kinetic Turrests)... and train it a bit.

Please note: Missions get you some money and "standings" with an NPC fraction - which means eventually you can do better missions and more money.  Nothing else really - you will get bored of missions.

In a nutshell: Join a corp!  Meet some cool people and join in with a load of group ops!

Final note!: Get the "EVEMon" tool (google it, but be careful you get the right link and not a scam - its not written by CCP).  This tool is a godsend and helps you train for certain ships or items.
