Now THAT'S why I like Eve.  It's as close to a sandbox game as we can get, these days, where the players, their scheming and their  PvP can actually shape major events in-game.

I really wish they had some sort of fantasy equivalent to Eve - I'd marry it!

Have to agree with you there.  In stead of looking at the biggest MMO's out there and trying to copy them I wish more devs had a look at how CCP is able to make a profit with a reletively small game. 

I started playing Eve after reading about the Guiding Hand Social club and the great bank heist, thought I'd give the game a go and never looked back.  This is another event that is going get people to talk about Eve.

CCP dealt with it poorly but they did deal with it when it came to light.... granted they dealt with it poorly AGAIN when the community found out they'd dealt with it poorly the first time but they did deal with it and they put shit in place to keep it from happening again... and it hasn't as far as anyone knows... and with all the people involved in EVE now they couldn't keep it quiet if it did.

So, please, quit with your tinfoil hat nonsense. Yeah, T20 f'd up and helped BoB 2 years ago. The BPO's have been long gone at this point so just drop it already.

Yeah it will get changed because otherwise we'll have every alliance ran by the alt of the Current Executor corp's CEO in a 1 man Executor corp for security reasons. Anyone who has actually been an Executor knows how much of a pain in the ass it is as you are extremely restricted in what you can allow people to do. I mean it takes the Director title in the executor corp in order to just change the standings for the alliance with no other options on that.

Had this been any other MMO, Id have agreed that it was epic, but since were talking about Eve, not so much. This type of tactic has been available to everyone since the game launched. Call it exploiting bad mechanics, but the same could be said about can flipping. Yet elitist vets will come and say can flippin is legit. Well, guess what, so is disbanding an entire alliance with the click of a button.

Eve Online has one thing going for it, realism. Everything else screams waste of time and money. From criminalistic activity by IEB corp taking several billion isk from investors to rumors of CCP dev intervention in gameplay and control. Now this whole disbanding of BoB and I'm sure it won't stop there.

Realism in MMO's is fascinating to a certain degree. However, Eve Online has far surpassed the enjoying portion into a flat out frustrating prank. I won't be suprised if next week, Ashton Kutcher sponsors the first ever, "You've just been punked!" episode of Eve Online.

Basically, an alliance (i.e. guild of guilds) that has dictated the world of a sandbox MMO for like 5 years has now finally been put to rest (at least for now). Please, give me another example of such a guild/alliance in any other MMO with as much impact and influence as BoB held over a game world.

There are a few incidents in MMOs that I will personally remember. One is Lord British getting PK-ed in UO, and this. And I have played MMOs for a long ass time.
