Okay, considering coming back to Hyboria, one question though. Long version: I followed the AoC developement for a long time and saw alot of interviews, in more than one of them i heard that they would implement a system for social clothing, where you could pick what you wanted to wear without it affecting your stats (like lotro has), or something along those lines. Being a huge fan of character looks i naturally wanted my barb to look like a barbarian, with fur armour and cloaks. But as the i progressed in level the armours just got uglier and more inappropriate for my barb and since this system wasnt implemented i had to suck it up and look nothing like a barb. And all the armour (except for the SotBS sets) where pretty much leather armours with different colours, needless to say, i was not a big fan. Looking at the tier sets on the homepage im a little disappointed that it doesnt really looks like a barbarian that i would imagine from the world of hyboria, once again, i prefur the fur! ^^ (okay bad pun)
So to get to the point (**read this only if you want the short version**): Is there a system, much like the system in LotRO, where i can decide what i look like without affecting stats, so my barb can look like a viscious barbarian from the cold cimmeria, in fur armour and all barbarian'ish stuff? If not, is there a system along these lines coming in one of the next major updates that we know of? And if all hope is up, is there more diversity in the game itemization rather than the dull, brownish leather armours? I really do love the game, and amusingly enough this is the missing piece for me. Thanks for taking the time. |

Short answer, nope. Long answer gear does very little, so wearing want ya want wont hurt your game play. There is no 'show' type gear layer tab. yes brown and grey is still the pallette of most of the clothing, a few new armor meshes have been added, but the badly needed itemization revamp is still on the 'someday in the future' schedule. I don't think AoC has what you are hoping for yet.

Not sure when you last played but there is now PvP armor too with unique looks. As you know Barbarians have decent DPS but are limited / offset with light armor which is a good place to search at the link above. Second point is that the gear does matter, in the past not so much but that depends on if your asking someone who left last summer or someone who still plays. Here is a little IGN article and Video : conanvault.ign.com/fullstory.php Re-itemization is schedule for Patch 5 from the looks of it and further crafting developments will provide even more unique looks coming over the next couple of months. Good luck.

NO, NO and NOOOOOOOO!!! And I hope it will NEVER be in Age of Conan. These, so called, social clothes can be easily done without any show tab. If you want to wear social clothes just wear them. But if you want to fight, you have to wear armor or they will kick your ass. Thats how it works and thats how it should be! _____________________________ |

Oh well, the longing for the game will probably draw me back to it anyway, but it would have been nice with some new options, however thanks for your constructive awnsers, much appreciated.
ps. to spellshaper: Why do people like yourself have phobias for this system? I've encountered a few like you on the AoC official forums that would reply with capslock and several exclamationmarks and say no. Maybe you are very happy with your gear or something, so if they implemented it, cant you just avvoid it and let those you who want it use it? If the problem is realism then isnt it more realistic that barbarians wear barbaric clothes? That PoM's wear priest robes? Not only in higher levels but also while leveling up, which is arguably the best experience in the game. Or is it that you dont want level 40's to look as good as you? I just dont understand this phobia of letting others have more fun, its not gonna hurt you. If it was something like a major pvp change then i would understand, but this doesnt affect gameplay whatsoever. This isnt to flame you, and i hope that you wont start to flame me (oh who am i kidding, your probably dusting off your old flamethrower as i type), im just genuine curious. And dont start a vendetta, im not gonna write in this forums at all anymore, to many flamers and trolls. |

There are usually two reasons I've come across for people not wanting social clothes. 1. Social clothes = RP. Certain types of players don't like RP because it detracts from them pretending they're hardcore uber leet, etc.. pvp killers. The reason it detracts from that is because in RP other people are part of the shared fantasy, but when you think you're leet pvp'er its a solo fantasy and everone else thinks you just an a-hole. 2. I've heard others say that they don't want the devs focusing on non-important stuff like social clothes when they should be fixing more important dynamics (combat usually). A valid enough argument, however it merely validates the idea the game isn't done yet. |

Having some individuality is a good thing, since AoC's character creation lacks it, having clothing help that problem is not a bad idea. |

I am not against social clothing, I am against social clothing over regular armor. Realism is one thing. But other is gameplay. Some players (including me) looks at opponents armors and see how much defense it has, what resissts, where they get it and so on. So if you mean just switch between social clothes and armor with all consequences (including stats...) thats ok. But social clothes with armors (and stats) together is nonsense! _____________________________ |
