Variety is the spice of life, unfortunately, it's also the bane of balance. |
If you're referring to the majority of the people actually playing, I think it'll be mostly pre-guilded people who have already decided if they are gonna be bandits and kill everyone or anti-PKs. At first I think it will be mostly people killin' eachother regardless of race. Most people are probably gonna attack their own race at least a few times for some reason or another just becuase that's one of the games biggest features, assuming most of the players are the intended audience. |

MMOs require more reasoning and imagination than most stereotypically ''adult'' activities. |

LOL, god damn EVE players and thier 5 alt accounts. Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age? |

I don't believe the "masses" will come anywhere near this game. |

LOL, you can blame my EVE alt acct addiction on early DAOC, when buff bots ruled the day. I always had at least one, and eventually had 2 around at all times.

No doubt!! Bots killed all. And it sucked back in the day, I didn't have enough money for one so if i was solo i got it up the back end every time... |

Your first mistake is assuming that Darkfall will be played by the masses. |

See that was the exact response I was expecting. You don't know or understand what type of gamer I am. Because I feel that people should work together, and fight against a common foe doesn't mean this game isn't for me. I'm sure there will be more intelligent people out there that can comprehend this idea. If you go rogue and start killing your own race your going to get killed by someone bigger and better then you, and they are going to have no consequences, like turning grey/red, like you are for being a pk.
I think the whole point of this game is that you can choose however you want to play. You can go on a murderous rampage, follow the rules, not even take part in killing and become a rich merchant, become an explorer, help build an empire. It's supposed to be a very realistic representation of a real life back in the what would you call it, medieval times?
So what kind of Goblins did King Richard fight back in medieval times? Did he take mages or wizards with him on the crusades? To answer the original question, the masses will run FROM this game not to it. Most people move away from a stinking pile, some people (sycophantic fawnbois) gravitate toward this pile like flies. |

Initially, it will be confused. Because we really know so little about the game people have no idea about the world, the races, what works and what doesn't. Very quickly though, one or two races will begin to dominate. At that point the vast majority of players will join those sides and they will outnumber the other three sides combined by 3 to 1 at least. Mob mentality here. Players like to win. From then on they will Gank and Zerg the other three races out of existence. If you are not one of these two races... forget ever having and keeping a Guild City too. There will be infiltrators of course - and this will cause some initial confusion - but their efforts will only have a minor effect. That said - some of these infiltrators will become 'famous' as they are hunted down. Aventurine will begin to see that they have an ongoing problem when capitol cites are constantly overrun to the point where no-one even bothers to mount a defense any more. Aventurine will realize that there is no 'easy fix' this late in design - and will promise a solution is being worked on while releasing several patches on Avatar modeling / animation, combat mechanics, new islands, new city build locations. Eventually, many of the gankers / zergers will realize that the only people left to fight are other gankers / zergers and at that point... when does "Fallen Earth" come out?

Assuming anyone downloads this game to begin with, I imagine the solo-players running around paranoid of gankers, and Guild/Clans/big party groups reaping the benefits. |

If its a gank fest then the rpg elements fail. |

if this game ever has more than 100k players i'd be suprised. it will probably get as big as Shadowbane. |

It's a sandbox game, the ability to do anything and kill anyone is the best part! How much fun would a game like GTA be if you could only kill the guys you were sent after, and none of the helpless pedestrians standing in your way! |

If and when i get into the game,i will be an explorer and one who is trying out the game mechanics.I have ZERO interest in PVP,so if the game has no content outside of PVP,it will be no where's near my HD. |

Two there should be; no more, no less. One to embody the power, the other to crave it. |
It won't be played by the masses. This isn't a game designed or hyped toward attracting the masses either. You can tell that just by the fact that they got super giddy over 300k beta applicants. AoC and WAR each were near or above the one million mark in terms of beta applicants. I am confident that WAR has more subscribers than AoC does currently and that would put them together at around half a million. Both games lost many players due to a shaky launch, launch bugs, and a lack of good end game content. As poor as the games launched for both AoC and WAR, and as sorry as the end game in both currently is, if you think an Indie Dev Team is going to produce a better launch and a better end game than either of those, you are nuts or you are truly blinded by the hype.
Those of us who are going to play this game are in a very tiny niche, which I personally wouldn't even dare label as a "chunk" of the market. |

The ability to "do anything" has always been a myth. You're always limited by the mechanics of any virtual world just as you're limited by the mechanics of the real world. People need to stop using trite phrases and say what they really mean. It's a less structured environment than your average MMO. Incedentally the freedom to build almost anywhere and in almost any manner was a real problem for Shadowbane. Darkfasll just gave up a little freedom to solve those problems. It's a trade off like everything else in game design.

No disagreement - I am just sick to death of the Darkfall Fanbois spouting rubbish about "go ANYWHERE, do ANYTHING." |
