I was thinking would we have more fun playing an MMO is we treated it like other PC games, like Oblivion, Bioshock, and Mass Effect. I was just wondering about this. I plan on treating WAR once i buy it like a regular game. I'm not gonna play it like how i usually play mmo's. I'm gonna just play and try to have fun. I'm not going to focus on leveling to hit level cap. I'll play to just explore more of the world and get farther in the game while having fun.

Has anyone tried this before? I'm thinking i will enjoy playing WAR more if i play it like this.

You will enjoy the game ALOT more this way IMO. I like just reading quests and walking around and taking my time doing what i wanna do. The only Stub to this is if you're playing with friends. Like for instance you're playing this way and your friend is doing the LVLVLVLVLVLVLVLVLVLVL EXP++++++++ thing you're gonna get dissenchancted easily as they never wanna group with you because they always are way ahead. And even if you don't care it's always annoying when someone just blows by you who you know.

So as most the time i'd rather okay this way everynow and then you gotta do some catch up cause you can burn out in the opposite way sometimes. MMo's big featre most the time is progression and if you smell the roses to much you may ReverseBurn out by feeling like you're going nowhere. Happened to me a couple times.

I play all MMOs like that.  I don't join guilds, I don't rush to level, I just play.

Some advice on starting WAR, find the most populated server you can find, trust me on this.

Dark Crag is a blast, death and mayhem everywhere. When the new classes are released, it's going to be insane there.

I never understood why ppl focus on hitting the levelcap ASAP... There's more to MMOs then leveling till cap... It's called role-playing to some, and to others just enjoying the whole game...

Lore - Every MMO is build around myths, legends and recent history (all in-game of course). Read your quests for once and you'll know why things happen later on in the game.

Explore - Why you think the developers have build a whole world and not only the part that fits the levelcap? With that, when you explore you might findsome of the pranks & jokes of the developers.

Crafting - Don't use the AH for everything you want. Gather the mats yourself and get some indepth knowledge of how to make stuff (and earn some money along the way as well).

Set some goals (other then levelcap) - Most of the MMOs allow you to reach objectives that are not directly related to the above mentioned. i.e. In Lineage Ii you can raise a pet dragon or wolf and let it grow to a mount at level 55.

All of the above (and more) are my thriving force in every MMO I've played. In all those years, I've only hit cap once (that was on a private L2 server), and I got bored pretty fast. While with all other games I played, I had fun till I abandoned the game for some other MMO...

I intend to live forever -- So far so good!

I never rush anywhere.  Most of the time I pick a random direction and head off that way just to see what I can find.  I have a few friends that share my attitude so it's quite common to just go out into the wilderness and duo or trio whatever we find.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

You can't say that, people can play a game however they want because theres no limit and the fact that theres no limit means that there isnt a way to do it. Personally I joined MMO's with that mind set then I was converted to the lvl-cap reaching, best gear grabing, geek. Now I am gonna approach my next MMO like I did when I started because it had such a rewarding atmostphere.

Interesting topic considering I struggle with self control and time in MMOs. :p.

If I have been following the game for a long time then yes I will read the quests/lore. They are genuinely interesting to me. However everyone just gets bored at some point and just says 'I cant be arsed.' Developers should try and find more interesting ways to convey lore imo.

As for zerging through games, well yeah friends/guildies are a big factor. From that point of view it can actually be better not to have em if you can't control yourself. But like someone said, you feel it when you see a guy you did a dungeon with yesterday 2 levels above you.

End of the day MMOs (at least for me) seem to be a race to the level cap and then the game changes dramatically. You can go slow or fast during the race. But the competitive spirit is still there. The urge to finish the race is always there.

Currently Playing Random shizzle!
Waiting on TERA, GW2, TSW

I too am taking the "smell the roses" route with LotRO. Been about 6 weeks now, and I'm only level 26 lol. Pretty slow considering it's supposed to be about the same leveling rate as WoW.

Playing - LotRO, SWToR
Played - FFXI, WoW, Lineage 2, Guild Wars, Aion
