DF has been in closed beta for what, 5 years now? Jeez they are testing the hell out of it. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

Grinding is the worst idea ever integrated into a game... I would much rather have fun. |
This is pathetic. A month prior to "release" and nothing... Aventurine's either on vacation, stupid, or both. There really should be a shitload of information for me, each time I log on weekly. I'm honestly glad I stopped frequenting these forums, it's all so depressing. Think about it people...The most information we have gotten about this game in the last four months, is a 10-minute gameplay video that showcases no more than goblins. Something's hidden. That, or their PR is the absolute worst I've ever seen, which I doubt. Any company making something that they are hoping to cash in on, "will" publicize it feverently. The fact that Aventurine's not, means Darkfall is likely in shitty shape. But, I could be wrong and in a month's time Europe will have one of the greatest games in history... ~laugh~ ------------------------------- |

Pretty sure you just made that word up. :p I really hope they're doing this whole "mysterious" thing on purpose - not setting expectations too high and what not. Could be a perfectly viable strategy: keep expectations low and exceed them, then build a loyal fanbase by mostly word of mouth. Less expensive marketing, anyway. We shall see...

No, he just had a typo while writing "fervently". |

At this point it's really only those two options:

With some of the leaks I've seen from Beta Testers, I'm leaning towards #2. If someone can think of a #3 that isn't a Troll or Fanboy option... I'm all ears. |

Originally posted by xzyax I agree, it's definitely #2. i think they always planned to start small and grow; they are no EA or Activision and have the resources to start with 100 servers and a massive hype campaign.

I've followed DF a little and watch all the videos ect and I think it number 2 as well. Each server is going to support only 10k people and since they are a very small company just breaking in they probably dont have the money and staff to watch more than 5-10 severs. |

#1 is the only plausible answer in this case. |

3) They really have no idea how to support a game like this on the anticipated scale of release and want very much to have plausible deniability as to why it doesn't work as well as it should. |

26th of January and still no info |

The correct answer is: They are still stress testing queue times, patching, connections, pings, mobs, assorted AI, bugs/glitches/exploits, and a few other things. Hence, closed beta for the features they are still implementing and fixing. DARKFALL 09! Apparently 08 didn't make it :( Sorros of Forumfall. |

I am sure that this POS is the same or worse and there is no way that a few hundred or thousand people could test "The largest world ever in an MMORPG" We saw what a few thousand were able to test with DnL which actually was the largest world ever in an MMORPG and it turned out so good. So I have to go with #1, it is a pile of crap that they are trying to hide. |

They can not stress test there server(s) (??) with 5K players. They said cap is 10K for simultaneous players on a server. How can you stress test it with less than 5K (?) players ? Something is not right. Since we dont know the exact numbers of testers, nothing too much to say. |

With some of the leaks I've seen from Beta Testers, I'm leaning towards #2. If someone can think of a #3 that isn't a Troll or Fanboy option... I'm all ears. With the announcement that Tasos made on Jan. 15th, we now know that Aventurine's official stance is that they were in the position of #2 from above.
The reason I worded it to say that is Aventurine's official stance is because... the jury is still out on how true #1 is.
Aventurine could quell many doubts by dropping the NDA. As long as the NDA stays up... that means that even Aventurine themselves is not ready to let the game speak for itself.
Hopefully a few more months in development will allow them to put all the pieces together to give them the best opportunity to have a successful launch. They need to make sure it's ready no later than the end of this year. Any later than that and their window of opportunity will have past them by. There are a number of other MMOs with similar feature sets now approaching release.
If DarkFall doesn't get their stuff together soon... |
