Ryzom received a major patch today which made a number of changes and bug fixes.

Dear Players,

Here is one of the announcements that you have all been waiting for !

After the success of the server side patch 3 weeks ago, the dev team is ready to apply a brand new patch, only this time it is client side as well.

This mean that your Ryzom client will be updated, so we will bring down the servers to apply the patch on the morning of Monday 26th January, starting at 9am GMT for a period of about two hours (11am GMT). After the application of the patch, we will open the Aniro server first for some testing in order to be sure that everything is ok. Once we have made sure that there have been no major problems, we will open the other two servers as well.

Read the patch notes here.

Hmmm, nothing about a fresh server launch. How do they ever expect to attract new players?

Enough was said about the wipe-topic.

My comments to wipe can be found here: www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/2106295#2106295

If a wipe is such a fine and good method to gain new motivated players, why don't the MMOs wipe their databases every two years? Right: because it's damn frustrating, it's a loss of faith and the potential to lose old players is bigger than to catch new player's attention. I wouldn't join a MMO that is owned by a company that kicks their long-time-players and most loyal customers in their butts this way.

You don't attract players through a wipe. You attract them by advertising.

You don't keep players through a wipe. You keep them with content.

Last comment from me to this topic in this thread.

As far as the patch is concerned:

Great news! A good start fixing old bugs. Hopefully they continue working on it, focusing more and more on new content.

----------------------
Playing: Ryzom, Vanguard, Everquest 2
Cancelled: RF online, WoW, Sword of the New World, Rappelz
Looking forward to: Spellborn

No one suggested a wipe.

There are two Ryzom servers, both with extremely low populations. Combine them on one server so the other is available for a fresh launch.

Way to go! You just further demonstrated your ignorance about Ryzom and its situation. There are three servers.

Three servers with very low populations reinforces my point. Ignorance is bliss.

WoW does that, It's called an Expansion. in WoW it Makes everyone equal every 1-2 years.

Im going to get smoked for that comment but to be honest its the leveling of the playing field in WoW that keeps new players joining everyday.

If 99% of the WoW community was max level in armor 10 tiers above a new player the game wouldn't be as popular.

this is the problem with sandbox games thiers no way to level the playing field.

Im actually all for a new Ryzom server

Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age?

There are 3 servers because there are 3 communities with different languages (french, english and german).

An international server is not a good thing for the game because it will lower the strenght of each community.
One big point of Ryzom is the strenght of its communities. A servers merge can be catastrophic.

Roleplay is also a big problem. It's easy for some to speak in a foreign language but it's very hard for all to do a good roleplay in a foreign language. For instance, I am unable to translate in english this sentence : "Hé, peau blanche ! Dégage de là avant que tes omoplates ne servent de porte manteau dans la hall de notre guilde".

You feel OK to play at certain hours surrounded only by french and german peoples,  not beeing able to roleplay because no one speak english at the required level for a good roleplay ?

And what about events ? In wich language will they be ?

I don't expect you to follow with pleasure a french event with Dexton...
