Hi

Not been following this game for very long, seem's to be one that got under my Radar.

After reading up on it I am quite excited regarding some of the features, seems to be directed back at old school hardcode MMO's!

What I'm not sure about are the Graphics, I have read a few comments about how bad they are and how dated they are - also have read comments about how good they are!!

Does anyone know for sure if they are going to be sub-par or not?

Are we talking Oblivion style Graphics of FFXI?

I would say they are medium, but have some pretty cool style.  Definitely not Oblivion, but not FFXI either.  Probably exactly what you would imagine from an indy type company.  The animations will likely be awkward, and graphics decent.

This game is much more about features over graphics, but if you look on youtube you can see a lot of gameplay footage to answer the question for yourself.

Graphics are always an opinion to different gamers.  I have always loved FFXI graphics.  If a brand new MMO came out that was feature complete with FFXI graphics I would love it.  Some people have to have bump mapping and games that require 500$ video cards.  It is all about features and gameplay for me.

Come on, its really not THAT bad.  Not everything has to be completely unique in order for it to be impressive.  Personally the level of detail is what I find impressive, the way it kind of feels like a world rather than just placed on a map.  I also feel once people actually get in the game and experience the world for themselves, to see how the art and style is carried throughout.  If they follow through with what I have seen in their screens, I would have no reason to call it unimpressive.

If your fps drops to 3 with 20 characters, consider buying a better computer, or turn your gfx settings down.

Your second point is entirely a oppinion. But yeah, if you hate the style you will not have a good time playing.

Have seen the screenies before, and checked out the youtube footage.

The issue I have with that is that yourtube tends to degrade the quality anyway, and the screenies and movies direct from the Dev's are no doubt powered by some over the top alienware beast.

I'm happy with average Graphics, it's not an issue - I just wanted some real idea what to expect. Some of the images did look a bit 'oblivion-ish' and I didn't want to raise my expectations too high.

Crossing my fingers for a tbeta e-mail like the other 300,000 odd people :-)

If you are in it for the graphics, this is not the game for you. The graphics will most likely be decent at best.

nope there alot of tricks being used for good fps

i think some client options for gfx isnt enabled O_o

i think ffxi gfx highest settings are inbetween this games low and max

Moron, I NEVER said DF graphics is good, i found it mediocre. Per pixel lighting does not means good graphics. In fact DF graphics fails in terms of artwork.

I can gurantee you the engine powering this game does not use per pixel lighting.... or anything more advanced than generic dynamic lighting..

The games graphics are terrible for a game coming out in 2009. Not only that but the animations are terrible too.

Well half of what really makes a game fun is good graphics , good animations, great characters, great sound / music... and Darkfall lacks HEAVILY in these departments from what i've seen so far.. And you can be guranteed that it will really hurt their subscription numbers.

Most people who play games will not touch a game with graphics like this in the year 2009 even if the gameplay is amazing because they automatically see an old outdated looking game and it makes the entire product look like shit.

If you have read the forums you would know that The noob comics screens are set on low-medium. They look alot like the beta leaked screens, which makes me think they are also on medium setting.

because this is close to max settings from the devs soem of the settings dont do anything atm for the testers client.

and screenshots and vids dont do this game justice really

The graphics are clearly good.  The animations are the only thing that look subpar.  Leakers have said some of the scenery took their breath away, and that is on medium settings.

If you say the graphics are terrible you are just trolling.  They may not look amazing to you but noone here truly thinks they look bad.

Don't jumb to conclusions from a single picture.

I would say the graphics are not the best...its something in the middle comparing to other mmos.

We don't know because they still will not share info, video's on the game. They have not even posted the system spec's for the game.

The second half off your post is why I hardly play any off the games being released these days. I can't bring myself to buy a game I know that will look decent but have all the depth off a paddling pool to it, I don't want to spend money on a game that I know I'll be able to complete in 1 day.

The gaming industry has been trying to appeal to wider and wider audiences over the past 5-10yrs and gradually they have been following the route off doing this by making things flashier and easier so more people can complete games. Problem with this scenario is it takes away the purpose off the games in the first place and thats the challenge.

If you are all about the graphics thats cool and there's no problem with that but don't try and make it sound like fact that games are half about graphics/animations over gameplay, you may have an argument with the recent influx of gamers over the last 5yrs or so but anything else is purely your opinion and not any sort of truth.

I still go back and play games from the late 80's forward to this day and they are still some off the best stuff I've played. The best RTS and CRPG I've played in 20yrs of gaming were made around 96-98 (neither were Blizzard products either). For me personally graphics don't count at all in buying a game, they are the fluff thats a nice extra and nothing more but again thats just me.
